I’ve started to fall for New Orleans recently. There’s real life there, if you know what I mean.

I never take storms as seriously as I should, which is probably not the way I should be handling it. I think it’s to do with growing up in New Orleans and having a hurricane, like, once a week.

The people of New Orleans have gotten to rock bottom. And the only way out in my mind is for them to really understand it, and then to really choose to get better.
I want to continue to stay plugged into New Orleans and help people who are still struggling with the recovery here, and then, if I can help around the country and around the world, absolutely, I’ll be open to that.
New Orleans in an amazing town.
It has to do a lot more than just twerking. It’s feel good music; it makes people have a good time. It doesn’t matter what type of situation they’re in, we bounce all around New Orleans. Weddings, birthday parties, funerals. The whole nine yards, and it’s a happy music, it turns people from a frown to a happy smile.
There’s a difference between the blues of the New Orleans guys and anyone else and the difference is in a chord, but I can’t figure the name of it. It’s a different chord, and they all make it.
New Orleans has a unique history as a great melting pot of all kinds of cultures, and that manifests itself now through the food, the music, and the kinds of people who live there.
George W. Bush was good as his word. He visited the Gulf states 17 times; went 13 times to New Orleans. Laura Bush made 24 trips. Bush saw that $126 billion in aid was sent to the Gulf’s residents, as some members of his own party in Congress balked.
Everyone in New Orleans has been welcoming me as family. Everywhere I go, they always say, ‘Put on for the city, baaay-bee.’
I took several trips to New Orleans and met with people who had intimate knowledge of the underbelly of the city in the 1950s. The meetings were both fascinating and terrifying.

I’ve been through so much, especially coming from New Orleans where there was Hurricane Katrina in 2005. I had to pick up. We had to move, make new friends, and I think my family was just strong for me as well because we had to start completely over again.
Fragile economies and weak infrastructures tend to worsen the results of climate disruptions, a problem exemplified by Bangladesh’s vulnerability to monsoons, accelerating desertification in northern China, and, most visibly, Hurricane Katrina’s devastation in New Orleans.
Most Americans never work as hard as when they’re trying to appear normal, and in New Orleans, we just don’t bother with that.
I’d love to live in New Orleans. I love the freedom of it – for good and for bad.
New Orleans cats don’t play a lot of solos unless they got something to say. It’s not an ego thing like it is with some other musicians. You say what you gotta say and then shut up.
I want to buy my mother a huge house in New Orleans so she can open up a bed and breakfast.
There’s also the tradition of voodoo, the Haitian magic arts, in New Orleans. And because New Orleans is below sea level, when they bury people in New Orleans, it’s mostly above ground. So you have this idea that the spirits are more accessible and can access you more easily because they’re not even buried.
Watching the scenes out of New Orleans, if you turn down the sound it could be the Sudan or any Third World country. But it’s not. it’s the United States of America.
I love New Orleans. I did a movie there right before Katrina.
Well I went to New Orleans to cover the jazz festival for Trio, it’s this new arts channel, it’s really great.
What I love about jazz is that it’s full of legends, full of myths. It’s an oral history because it started in New Orleans and Kansas City, under the radar.
If I have to be considered any type of jazz artist, it would be New Orleans jazz because New Orleans jazz never forgot that jazz is dance music and jazz is fun. I’m more influenced by that style of jazz than anything else.

The violence in New Orleans is erupting and it’s continuing to grow at an alarming rate.

The city of New Orleans showed America what it takes to rebuild a great place. We’re all going together, and we’re not leaving anybody behind.
