My debut performance was on the railway tracks where I was asked to sing some Hindi songs in front of a mafia gang and around 20,000 more people were present. I sang in fear and danced too and luckily, they liked it.
RZA helped me make my first beat, and he rhymed over it, and that made the ‘Babylon A.D.’ soundtrack. That first track was very raw and unmixable, but it’s so anthemic. After that, I started learning how to make tracks. It was a process, but once you stop learning you’re dead.
Music is my profession but learning more about racism on all sides of the tracks was my obsession.
Not only should we be giving Amtrak the money it needs to continue to provide services; we should be providing security money to upgrade their tracks and improve safety and security measures in the entire rail system.
