I don’t like individual awards because this is a team sport, and the coaches try to promote the collective.
It’s very validating when you are new in the industry to get awards. It boosts your self-esteem.
After a while, when the writer is mature, it doesn’t really matter – not because of finances but because of reputation. It doesn’t really matter how many awards you get.
It’s called ‘Fight Valley,’ and it’s my first feature film. I just dove in and did the best I could. I don’t think I’m gonna win any Academy Awards on this one. I had fun with it and hopefully will get more opportunities like that. It’s about two sisters, one poor and one rich, and one goes into underground fighting.
I think they’re an incredible honor. I’m grateful and flattered by them. But I have no control over winning awards – I have no control over any of that.
I’ve done 480-odd films, have my own acting school, won awards, etc. and now host a successful TV chat show – what else can I ask for? Yes, of course, every journey has its ups and downs, but that’s part of life.
These are some of my awards – an Ivor Novello, a Variety Club Silver Heart, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. I also have a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and a street named after me in Brooklyn where I used to live.
I’ve never been to Hollywood. I can count the number of times I’ve been to Los Angeles on my hands. I’ve never made a movie there and I’ve never been there for working reasons. The only reason to go there is for silly awards shows.
Honors and awards are very interesting, and I truly accept them. I have very high regard for what they mean. What they mean is that they’re pointing to the work.
Sometimes our awards process can be very political in terms of just driving personal agendas, and I think we forget.
I never wore glasses except when I had to read a teleprompter at an awards show or drive, so I didn’t notice much. I could exist in my head. It was kind of my escape from the world and my protection.
I am never disappointed in life in not getting any awards: it is the movies which keep me going, not the awards.
If we win trophies, we have the chance to win individual awards because it comes with the team targets.
I don’t sing for awards, I sing for rewards!
I’ve got my Peabody and my Saturn awards right next to each other on my mantle, and that is about it, and that is all that matters.
Actors like to play bad guys because they’re more fun. They also win more awards.
My advice is not to aim for prizes and awards. We are in this for the joy of research, the fascination, the love of science. That’s the reward, really.
There’s nothing I would love more than to host an awards show where I’m nominated for an award – that is so funny to me.
We want box office success, critical acclaim, awards and everything else. But I think when the audience likes a film, that appreciation is far more fulfilling, far more satisfying than any award.
Awards bolster your confidence in wonderful ways. But they aren’t the world.
The MTV Video Awards were never about the video, but about the song. Most of the time it was just to glorify people for the wrong reason.
I don’t know anything about awards, I really don’t.
I love awards, especially if I get them.
From casting to hiring to awards races like the Emmys, taking active steps toward inclusion will make for richer stories, a stronger democracy, and a better world.
You can only make the work that you have to make. And I am old enough now to know that I can’t start making shows that are going to win awards. That way madness lies.
For me, if awards are not increasing my remuneration or adding value to the offers that I get, they have no meaning.
I have been blessed to win a number of awards and be involved in numerous historical baseball moments over my 20-year career with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.
I don’t have role models or watch much TV. I go to awards ceremonies but often I don’t even know who the people are. I think that’s good, because then you don’t have preconceived ideas about them.
Your performance should be acclaimed. If awards come, I am happy.
While the Pentagon ultimately awards military contracts, there is a reason for the review process. The Senate’s subcommittee on Military Construction’s approval carries weight.
I don’t really care about awards.
I’m someone who believes in having motivation at all times, win or lose, individual awards.
What happens on ‘Mad Men’ in terms of the acting and the writing and the directing, it’s superior. And yes, it has tremendous cache and buzz because it’s become iconic, but it also deserves all the kudos and the awards as well, because it’s a beautiful show to look at.
I have not won far more awards than I have won.
With all the awards I’ve won, you’d think that I’d at least be able to make a living. It’s a really terrible situation.
It’s sort of a meat market, the whole awards thing, and I don’t think you can predict it anymore – who’s going to like what you’ve done, if it’s worthy or not. And hopefully, that’s not why you make a film, because if you’re distracted by that, or only striving for that, you don’t do it justice.
I’m not the most in-tune guy with what is getting nominated and winning awards in general.
It wasn’t on my agenda, but the thing about getting important awards is it makes the adventure of your career have a little more possibility. I think just what’s happened so far is already making the opportunities more interesting, even though I’m at the twilight of my career of like 48 years.
I don’t read for amusement, I read for enlightenment. I do a lot of reviewing, so I have a steady assignment of reading. I’m also a judge for the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, which gives awards to literature and nonfiction.
I don’t think international cinema is ready to embrace mainstream Indian cinema unconditionally. Even Mira Nair’s ‘Monsoon Wedding’ didn’t get to the Oscars after being nominated for the Golden Globe Awards.
I haven’t got many awards to boast of.
I may not have got the Nobel Prize, but I’ve won countless other awards, including ‘Most Inspirational Living Woman Scientist.’
Our statement’s on the screen. Awards won’t make it better, and a lack of awards won’t make it worse.
I don’t make records to win awards. I make records to make records and hopefully make the records as good as they can be.
I have always believed that awards are like accessories to a car. They are very similar to the rear view mirror in a car, which gives you the confidence to drive. They sure mean a lot; however, they are not the be-all and end-all of life.
Like most people, I’ve always felt using words like ‘best’ when applied to art is a fun way for critics to stay busy at the end of the year, and I guess a good way to help get ratings for awards shows, which is fine.
Cameron Diaz was so cute at the MTV Movie Awards when she pulled her skirt up and wiped her armpits.
The She Rocks Awards does so much for women in music, and I’m excited to be a part of it.
Except that awards are competitive, which is a negative thing, they are wonderful for singling out deserving individuals and bringing their work to the attention of many potential readers who might otherwise have been totally unaware of them.
I would honestly say that with all the awards and all the other things that I’ve done in my life, Dollywood is one of the greatest dreams that I’ve ever had come true – I am so proud of that I can’t even begin to tell you, Dollywood is real special to me.
For me, awards are a validation of my work.
We want to make something that moves us when we hear it. Because after all the hype and awards and whatever, that’s all music is.
I don’t like awards ceremonies. I’d sooner go to the pub with mates I’ve known for years.
However popular an artiste may be, awards were reassuring.
At the end of the day, making ‘Monster’ was unbelievably hard, as making any movie is. And the only thing that made it worth it is not those awards and all those kind of things that I can barely remember because I was so overwhelmed. It was really that night in the editing room, that day on set. It was those things.
LYou can get yourself cut and stitched, or you can get a good girdle. The day before my first Emmy show, I went to Sears and bought a really good girdle. And I’ve worn that thing to every single awards show since!
I’m officially retired as the refuser of Academy Awards.
I would love to get a Moonman! I’d put it next to my other awards. I don’t have a cabinet right now; they’re just kind of all around my flat, one next to the TV, one in the bedroom. So, I’d have to build a cabinet.
Katy Perry still gets me every time. She’s very funny in person! We met at the Teen Choice Awards and she pulled my cheeks apart and told me how cute I was. My life was literally flashing before my eyes!
What lists and awards don’t measure – and I feel this strongly – is the lasting value of any work of art. They’re a snapshot of a moment, and one should always consider their judgments in that context.
I’ve been a fan of BET since I was a kid, growing up watching the awards, thinking that one day I would be there.
I think people ease into this careerist professionalism, so if you’re a writer it’s your job to manufacture books as opposed to writing them and to go to festivals and spend your life emotionally invested in reviews or the awards. You have to shrink your universe in a way. To me, it’s the opposite.
