If it’s flipping hamburgers at McDonald’s, be the best hamburger flipper in the world. Whatever it is you do you have to master your craft.
I was part of a group called Casanova Fly, doing bouncer work, attending college and working in a pizza shop when I first met producer Sylvia Robinson who came into the pizza shop where I was flipping the dough. I was rapping in the park in Englewood, and she heard about what I was doing.
If there is a situation, I try to take a step back, cool down, and solve the problem. Flipping out, freaking out, and being very rude about it is not going to help.
To me, ‘rant’ was ranting and raving. So to me, it’s heightened. emotional flipping out, frothing at the mouth. Where I grew up, that was a rant. I don’t consider what I’m doing ranting.
I’ve always waitressed between roles. When ‘Black Mirror’ was on, I was still flipping burgers. Customers would recognise me while asking for extra ketchup, which was pretty embarrassing.
The selfie phenomenon is enormous, and it’s hilarious. Especially as Australians, because we kind of hate people that love themselves, but that’s all flipping on its head now, and we’re happy to love ourselves.
