I’ve heard that almost all the people crowding around the big art openings barely look at the work on display and are just there to hobnob. Nothing wrong with that, except that none of them ever come back to look at the art – but they will tell everyone, and actually believe, that they have seen the exhibition.
What I mean is that none of my talents had a – what’s that great word – rubric. A singer, an actor, a dancer – there was nothing I could really say I was. The writing came much later. And, actually, thank God, because if I had said I’m a singer, I would really have just had one thing to do.
Being asked to describe what ‘post-racial’ means is a bit like being asked to describe a leprechaun, cold fusion or unicorns: we know what is meant, but, if we are willing to be honest, we also know that none of the four describe something real, something tangible, something true.
Dictionaries are like watches, the worst is better than none and the best cannot be expected to go quite true.

When I was younger, I talked to the adults around me that I respected most about how they got where they were, and none of them plotted a course they could have predicted, so it seemed a waste of time to plan too long-term. Since then, I’ve always gone on my instincts.
What Darwinian theory shows us is that all human races are extremely close to each other. None of them is in any sense ancestral to any other; none of them is more primitive than any other. We are all modern races of exactly equal status, evolutionarily speaking.
In New York City, everyone is an exile, none more so than the Americans.
Our daily habits of driving, drilling, buying and supporting all of the economic benefits a free economy demands has cost us dearly, but none more so than for the people of Shishmaref.
We tried war, we tried aggression, we tried intervention. None of it works. Why don’t we try peace, as a science of human relations, not as some vague notion – as everyday work.
I know many books which have bored their readers, but I know of none which has done real evil.
Bad excuses are worse than none.
There is none to tell the rich to go on striving, for a rich man makes the law that hallows and hollows his own life.
While we enjoy the benefits of living in the greatest democracy in the world, we must be ever conscious of the fact that none of the achievements or freedoms enjoyed in America would be possible without the price that has been paid for by our servicemen and women.
I try to speak plainly so that my constituents who don’t follow the nuances of government like I do, because they’re too busy earning a real living, can understand the issues before me. None of this stuff is brain surgery.
Hardly can it be judged whether it be better for mankind to believe that the gods have regard of us, or that they have none, considering that some men have no respect and reverence for the gods, and others so much that their superstition is a shame to them.
None of us whether Men or Women but have so good an Opinion of our own Conduct as to believe we are fit, if not to direct others, at least to govern our selves.
There is nothing remotely dignified about sorting through rotting trash to find something to feed your child, or asking someone for money because you have none (anyone who has contrived to give people money before they had to ask will never forget the look of gratitude in their eyes).
More than ever, Romania now needs to see that a force exists that puts an end to Ponta and Antonescu’s abuses and coup d’etat. This force is none other than the Romanian people.
Black people are victims of an enormous amount of violence. None of those things can take place without the complicity of the people who run the schools and the city.
It is unfortunately none too well understood that, just as the State has no money of its own, so it has no power of its own.
The Egyptian Nile, though it does have its own particular hazards, is subject to none of what I find in Rhode Island. Since the Aswan High Dam was built in 1973, the Nile has become something of a grand canal. It is wide, flat, slow, and so calm it verges on the geriatric.
As neither of these two great research scientists was able to find the solution to the mystery, it is small wonder that none of their contemporaries were able to do so either.
Hardly any of my most memorable meals have been eaten in a restaurant, and definitely none in one of those fancy marble-floored, polished-silver establishments.
Men are what they see and judge; though some do not fill up their light, yet none go beyond it.
I don’t get recognized that much. That’s the best part of it. I tend to get things like, ‘You sound a lot like that guy on ‘Deadwood.’ And that’s lovely. I’ve been very fortunate. No giggling, screaming girls. None of that.
The only shame is to have none.
If people stay in their own little bubbles, none of us will reach our full potential.
Music itself is going to become like running water or electricity. So it’s like, just take advantage of these last few years because none of this is ever going to happen again. You’d better be prepared for doing a lot of touring because that’s really the only unique situation that’s going to be left.
Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto.
I didn’t have Cartier. I didn’t have Gucci, Louis, none of that.
At culinary school, none of the things we use to define ourselves outside that world – actor, producer, student – none of that matters. It’s a magical art form.
I’m still shooting on low budgets, though none of my movies has lost money, and I rarely get sent anything that stars a guy or is a thriller or is seriously dramatic. And I would love the opportunity to do those things.
This has always been a man’s world, and none of the reasons that have been offered in explanation have seemed adequate.
Awareness is key. In the absence of information, none of us know what is happening and what could be jeopardizing our health, our water supply, and our planet.
I grew up in a confused house: too much unwanted attention or none at all.
Bush is a frat boy in the White House but we’ve had that before. But I wasn’t one of those people that was threatening to leave the country. By the way none of those people have left the country. Alec Baldwin is still here.
We really have the most beautiful planet in our solar system. None other can sustain life like we know it. None other has blue water and white clouds covering colorful landmasses filled with thriving, beautiful, living things like human beings.
I am recognized a lot for ‘Master of None.’ It seems like that show really touched a cultural nerve in a good way.
I was always into music. And none of my friends were really into music the same way I was. So it was just different. It was really not very well understood by most of my friends. They didn’t tease me about it – they just didn’t really relate.
We use a lot of source music on some shows and none on others.
I think it’s important for all of us to remember, none of us are perfect.

I’d rather trust nine people and have the 10th one stab me in the back. I’d take that fall in order to have those nine friendships or working relationships instead of having none. That’s not living.
The great secret of a successful marriage is to treat all disasters as incidents and none of the incidents as disasters.
I had a great deal of confidence when I graduated from Berkeley. I had almost none when I was at Princeton. After a while, when people tell you you can’t do something because you’re a woman, you begin to believe maybe they’re right.
Look at Julie Etchingham and Katie Derham, none of us are spring chickens frankly, I don’t think people want to watch someone who’s wet behind the ears, you have to look like you understand what you are reading about.

The combat environment has the effect of flattening out civilian identities. If you’re young or old, or a graduate from Harvard or the son of a farmer from Alabama, or if you’re gay or straight or good-looking or ugly: none of those things matters much in combat, as long as you can conform to the group expectations.
