When they first asked me to do ‘Hulk,’ my first instinct was to say no because I didn’t think I had anything to say with the character, especially when they said, ‘Please do what you did with ‘Daredevil,’ whatever that was.’

I did my ‘Hulk,’ but it was not easy. If I do another Hulk film it will always be compared to the Ang Lee thing, and my first one… if I come back, I’d love to do another superhero, something different that I can really put my touch on.

I don’t think anybody else can play the Hulk like I could. I was able to show emotions even with all of the makeup. I don’t think it can be duplicated.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a pro wrestler. Other kids wanted to be cops and astronauts, but I wanted to be Hulk Hogan, the Ultimate Warrior, ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage, Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake, and Jake ‘The Snake.’ I wanted to be those guys! I used to tape matches on my trampoline and body-slam my brother.

My son craves picture books about Transformers and Ninja Turtles and the Hulk; they show one fantastic creature smashing or zapping another into smithereens on page after page. They are dull and ugly and show no interesting stories or models of conflict resolution or character building.

The Hulk was a unique character because of his strength and power. He doesn’t have a costume like Spiderman or like Superman – The Hulk is more visual. His passion and his strength, that is what separates him from anything else.

You don’t grow up with Hulk Hogan as your dad and not learn a few moves.

I talk about Hulk Hogan being in my corner back in the day… Back in the day, if it wasn’t for Hulk Hogan, I don’t know if Booker T and Stevie Ray would’ve gotten the push that we got.

Seriously, I grew up a fan of Hulk Hogan, and I think I bring some of his best values to the ring… the values of a superhero. Always do your best. Never give up… I think kids want to believe in that, and they should believe in that.

‘Iron Man’ was this fun, poppy thing bound to make a zillion dollars. And we were the other side of a superhero movie. More complex with The Hulk being this complex character – that’s what it was.

To many generations of fans, Hulk Hogan really represents the beginning of what became this amazing industry that we have.

The thing that is so great about Ang Lee is the diversity in his filmmaking, from ‘Brokeback…’ to ‘The Hulk.’

People of African descent, most of us grew up accepting and loving Spider-Man. I still love Spider-Man. I still love the Incredible Hulk. I still have those characters that were white role models, superheroes, heroes – whatever you want to call it. You basically had no choice but to accept those.

I was always a huge WWF wrestling fan, and Hulk Hogan was one of my biggest heroes.

When I moved to Tampa, Florida I remember going to a Kid Rock concert and I was in one of those sky-boxes. When I walked into the sky-box I didn’t know he was there, but I hear a, ‘Hi, brother!’ I turn around and it’s Hulk Hogan. I just got ‘brothered!’
