People ask me all the time which I would prefer doing more, but I honestly can’t say. When I’m filming, I’m like, ‘No, this is my favorite,’ and when I’m writing music and recording and performing, it’s like, ‘This is definitely it.’
As a medical doctor and cardiac surgeon, I had the responsibility of performing open-heart surgery on President Spencer W. Kimball in 1972, when he was Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
I started performing as a stand-up comedian on my own in the mid-1990s.
I was definitely Theater-Band Geek/Straight-Up Boss Subgroup C. I was really into band and theater and super into music at the time. I loved performing arts, and that would definitely be my group.
As a cameraman, I was paid to stand within a few feet of Yehudi Menuhin performing. I saw Rudolph Nureyev dancing. I couldn’t believe I was being paid for that.
I got the performing itch.
When I started performing, I played acoustic music, partly because that way you don’t have to worry about interacting too much with other people creatively. Asserting myself in that way was not really a strong point for me.
I never expected to get the Tom Jones treatment and it amazes me that I do. Strangely it’s women who throw their underwear at me when I’m performing live. My male fans tend to be quite shy. My female fans are wild. I never know what to do with all the lingerie that lands at my feet. Maybe I should open a shop.
I love making movies, but there’s nothing like performing live.
And because performing for a game involves real acting. The way they create a game is very similar now to how they create a film. I’ve always wanted to stretch my acting skills, and the timing being what it is, I couldn’t say no.
I went to really good New York City public schools that had arts programs. So in junior high, I got into the drama department. From there, I went to a performing arts high school in New York City called Laguardia and I just kind of fell into the professional side by happenstance.
I sing because I love singing. I perform because I love performing. I write because I actually enjoy writing.
I definitely want to continue acting and performing.
I was a swimsuit model, and I got bored. Acting was challenging. It was very hard and intimidating. We choose to do things in life sometimes that scare the crap outta us. Performing in front of people was my challenge.
Filming is quite exciting because every day is different, but it can involve long hours standing around in chilly locations. Theatre is a very different challenge because every night you’re striving to keep it fresh, even though you might have been performing the same play for months.
I’m very much half-American – my mom is American. I grew up in Australia until I was 16, then I finished high school over here because I got into this performing arts high school.
Of course, some would say if you have a performing inclination, then you should become a lawyer. That’s a platform we use, or a priest. You know, anywhere you lecture and pontificate to people.
When I’m writing for certain instruments, you want to write within what you know about that instrument but also challenge the player. Something like ‘Aheym’ is very virtuosic – but because I have a history of performing music, I don’t like unplayable music.
I just lost interest in performing.
I’d faced a lot of rejection from labels and the industry, and it was getting hard to keep believing in myself. But something wouldn’t let me – inside – I had this voice that was relentlessly hopeful, and honestly, I just loved performing and writing too much to ever really quit.
I decided to always sing in the back with the chorus and never went up front because I had trouble performing.
To be confident going out and performing, I need to be with my son for as long as possible; then I know I’m happy, and he’s happy, and I can go out and put all my energy into performing.
I’m more interested in writing than in performing.
Everyone in my family is very supportive, and any mention of family in my show is just, in my idea, the funniest version of the family of the guy of who’s performing.
I’ve been performing since I came out of the womb. I’ve been dancing and singing since I was a toddler. Acting seemed like a natural progression from that.
When you start performing, you realize that you have to separate yourself from the pack. So I would never wear bell-bottoms, which everybody else was wearing. I had short hair – and to see a 21-year-old guy walk onstage without longish hair was, in itself, weird. Every entertainer needs a shtick.
Getting on stage and performing and standing under lights is such an unsettling experience – in a good and bad way – but it’s the only place I can go to feel comfortable.
We’ll be reporting music news every week and have real bands coming and performing on ‘MyMusic,’ interacting with the fictional cast as though they were real.
I’ve always loved performing and, especially, love for the people. That’s what keeps me going.
I write my plays to create an excuse for full-tilt acting and performing.
Performing doesn’t come that naturally to me, even though I’ve done it for years.
Both songs are really, really intense when it comes to performing them, and very draining at the same time.
My dad’s paternal grandparents were musically inclined. And I remember as a little kid going to visit them in their senior building, and they were, like, the stars of the building, especially hosting and performing in their senior talent show.
I still like going on the road and performing, but it’s getting tougher. I try to have my wife and the twins with me but it’s getting harder and harder for them. They need to be in a home environment and not traveling with me.
I started performing at two or three on a tape recorder, one of those little flat recorders where you just push play and record.
I don’t go to shows because I just want to listen to the music performed live. I want to get to know the person who’s performing it. Or I want to, like, take away a sense that I had an experience that nobody else is going to have again, or a unique experience for that moment.
I double majored in English education and theater with a musical theater minor. Teaching is the only thing that makes me as happy as performing.
I used to go around the country performing. I was in my 20s; I had no fear. But then I had a baby, and all of sudden, your life, your world changes; you change.
For every athlete, it is very important to be able to engage in their favorite thing, give all the best in training, performing in competitions, defending the honor of the motherland.
I love performing in Las Vegas.
Performing in front of a live audience can be pretty intimidating, so having a full head of hair was important to me.
I’d say that, first and foremost, I’m a performer; I started performing when I was four years old, and being on stage from a young age set me up.
I explain to athletes, you’re supposed to be a well-oiled machine. You’re supposed to be in better shape than the people watching you. You’re supposed to be an unbelievable specimen of a human being. You have to treat your body different while you’re performing.
The rules of game shows limit stuff so much. I remember on ‘Money From Strangers,’ being in the van – not even performing – and there was a lawyer there the entire time. ‘No, you can’t give money for that. Yes, you can give money for that. That’s a partial answer. That’s a full answer.’
I have always been a martial arts fighter; it goes to back when I was eighteen. I was competing on the circuit, but when you’re performing, you tend to pull punches because you don’t want to hurt anyone.
I grew up listening to all kinds of music. When I came up, you would hear people like Marvin Gaye talking about Sarah Vaughan. You would go to a show and see Ella Fitzgerald performing the music of the Beatles.
U.S. Speedskating has been riddled with problems since when I started my career, and we were always able to look past that. When it came down to performing on the ice, regardless of funding issues, we were always able to make it happen. And that’s what it’s all about.
I think in 2016 I’m going to focus on performing a lot more and doing as many shows as I can. There’s plans to tour more, and that’s where my heart is – doing the live shows.
We’re performing several shows in the Canary Islands.
In America, everyone writes but no one reads. Everyone’s writing all day long – sending emails, tweets, text messages; they all think they’re James Cameron’s Avatar, performing in some video game for which they make up the script.
Whether I am performing for an elite crowd or a crowd of 20,000 people – the moment someone asks for ‘Agneepath,’ and I respond ‘Agneepath’ chahiye?’ the noise in the crowd, shows that this song has become huge.
Once I started performing I knew that’s what I wanted to do with my life. But you have to work really hard to be a performer.
To me that’s part of my working day, and I would never refuse a job where I’m under several hours of makeup, because as an actor, I enjoy performing. It’s about the creation of the character and the art to me, not about being comfortable and how long it all takes.
Normally, when I’m not performing or stealing, I second-guess myself; I have doubts.
