I was called Kool Dj Kurt Walker… but they wanted tocall me Kurtis Blow.
In school, I did a lot of computer work. I’d take splices from Kurt Weill songs and loop them in bars, in beats of seven, trying all different kinds of things.
I love Vince McMahon. He came up with the Kurt Angle character. He ran with it, and then I was able to run with it. I thank him for the opportunity he gave me. Vince McMahon was one of my best friends, period.

When you become famous, people can have a powerful yet illusory idea of who you are. You want to live your life, but still, you don’t want to let anyone down. I know Ed Vedder, Kurt Cobain, Jerry Cantrell, all those guys felt it. They’re smart, real, and all of a sudden, they’re put on a pedestal.

Growing up, I was so inspired by front men like Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury, and Kurt Cobain – real showmen that put on ‘a performance’ every time they walk out on stage – so it’s important for me to feel like I deliver that.
