Most of the female ‘superhero’ role models of my childhood came from novels, and they rarely had powers. Take Dorothy, for example, from ‘The Wizard of Oz;’ or Laura Ingalls and her sisters in the ‘Little House on the Prairie’ novels.
In my horror movies, I was always trying to deal with real characters and real character drama played by good actors… Laura Linney, Ethan Hawke, Eric Bana, and Tom Wilkinson, people who don’t do horror normally.

Whilst filming ‘Jurassic Park,’ I watched a hurricane approaching the beach in Hawaii. My co-worker Laura Dern and I thought we might die, but we managed to laugh about it later.

Gay marriage has jumped out of the closet on to the front page. Everyone from the president of the U.S. to retired four-star general Colin Powell is embracing the issue, now supported by most Americans. Still, a few people, like former First Lady Laura Bush appear to be conflicted.
I don’t know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm, and she has a sparkle in her eye, which is good. But I don’t know that she’s ever had a real job – I mean, since she’s been grown up.
