I’d like to see technology to move beyond the hype and be considered part of infrastructure… the way you see access to water. I would like it to move away from apps and mobile money. So that everyone has their TV and their Wi-Fi, and it’s just ubiquitous. I think that’s where we should be headed.
The hype man’s job is to get everybody out of their seats and on the dance floor to have a good time.

When you’re involved in those big-budget movies, there’s a lot of hype: ‘Oh this is gonna be a big hit!’ And ‘A Christmas Story’ wasn’t. It came and went and was a big disappointment at the box office.
Sometimes there’s a reason for the hype.
Hype covers every surface of mass culture, and sports fans are intimately familiar with it – the heavy-breathing buildup that leads, inevitably, to a first-round knockout or a 30-point blowout or a fourth-inning rainout.

If in my twenties I’d gotten one of the two-dozen roles that I did screen tests for and almost got, I think I would have become bored with the awards circuit, the whole hype machine.
The pressure and hype is created by the media. Of course, expectations are there and we cannot stop that nor change yourself for expectations. We just continue making films.
A lot of what people are calling ‘artificial intelligence’ is really data analytics – in other words, business as usual. If the hype leaves you asking ‘What is A.I., really?,’ don’t worry, you’re not alone.
You try not to pay too much attention to the hype before the game, because you never know what’s going to happen.
People are brainwashed into believing that Italy is the seat of luxury manufacturing. If it’s made in Italy, it must be good. That’s just hype. Quality is where you bring it.
Hype is wonderful when it happens, and you should capitalize on it. But you shouldn’t bank on it being the thing that will take you to the next step. Because it’s fleeting. The blah-blah-blah goes away, but you’re still there.
You’re all right, as long as you don’t believe your own hype.
I am a pretty bad driver, so when I drive, I need to be calm. I can’t be vibing to DMX, all hype, in the car.
You have lines of people outside Apple stores waiting for the latest iPhone, which adds to the hype around new product launch. So scarcity has value not just in its own right, but as a basis for free PR – it can become a story on the nightly news.

Hype is the awkward and desperate attempt to convince journalists that what you’ve made is worth the misery of having to review it.
I think towards the end of my career, I’m the man. But right now, I’ve still got that underdog mentality to keep on proving myself time and again. I’m not going to believe the hype.
The hype got people to recognize us, and we appreciate that, but we don’t invest much attention or credit to the hype. Because when we do, at any moment, whoever is giving that hype can take it away just as easily… and then we’re lost.
I’m very serious about what I write and who I allow to produce the music, because I want to make sure it’s a true album, and not just something pushed out there to create hype and more fame for myself.
You have to find what makes you stable in the storm. Then, no matter what’s happening round you, no matter what the hype or the publicity, you can still manage to make leaps in your work as an artist.
There have been lots of stories written about all the hype over getting the genome done and the letdown of not discovering lots of cures right after.
We’re making clothes – we aren’t saving the world. I’m not saying that designers aren’t artists, but at the end of the day, we make clothes. Hopefully we make beautiful clothes with a message, but in the end it’s for people to wear. I think that the hype of fashion has come down a level.
You do have those guys that talk a lot. I understand they’re doing it for a reason, to hype a fight, but then you get guys who do it and you can tell that they’re trying too hard.

I think the problem I have with films is that, because there’s so much hype around them, they become bigger than they should be, really. There are things that people do every day in their little workshops that they’ll take to heaven with them. You’ve got to realise that it’s not everything, making films.

I just don’t believe the hype. I just don’t take myself too seriously. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
