Dallas was a Black and White society at that time; it didn’t have the diversity it has now.
For 30 years I wrote for newspapers and magazines, wrote books on the Dallas Cowboys’ dynasties of the ’70s and ’90s, wrote about Michael Jordan in Chicago and Barry Bonds in the Bay Area, even wrote columns for ESPN.com from 2004 to 2006.
I have been a fan of Forty Five Ten since my first visit to Dallas in 2010, when I was working with the hometown competitor.
When we started the show, ‘Dallas’ was known as the city where JFK was assassinated. By the end it was known as JR’s home town.
I certainly think that the publishing houses have to learn more about this informal network of literary blogging and get over the idea that sending an author on a book tour – to Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles – is a successful model anymore.
