We all know that as we form thoughts, they form deep channels in our minds and in our brains. Chronic pain is an example. If you burn yourself, you pull your hand away. But if you’re still in pain in six months’ or six years’ time, it’s because these circuits are producing pain that’s no longer helping you.
In our case, one of my earliest experiences working in the company was being asked to be on Ted Turner’s board, and I saw that the value creation from owning networks was stunning – new channels, international opportunities, synergy, many things that Turner Broadcasting built for decades.
This is the evolution of television. It just keeps evolving from three networks, four cable networks, satellite. Now there’s Internet channels and the phone.
I enjoy watching news and lifestyle channels. Cooking shows are also my favourite. I also watch a lot of films on Netflix.
The Global Fund is a central player in the progress being achieved on HIV, TB and malaria. It channels resources to help countries fight these diseases. I believe in its impact because I have seen it firsthand.
If these assets were set up as a revolving fund with which Japan could import raw materials for its industries, Japanese exports could again enter the channels of world trade-and Japanese workers would have employment and something to eat.
CEOs shouldn’t worry about their budget all the time – on a day-to-day basis, they should work on managing their company, building an awesome product, developing key relationships, identifying distribution channels, etc.
