I love being part of campaigns and events that are working with kids and just sharing my personal experiences.
We tend to think of politics as bad, full of dirty tricks, negative ads, big campaigns, but I am here to explore the original meaning of politics, which is positive and has to do with balancing competing interests and looking for solutions.
Stemming the tide of special interest campaign cash – and restoring fiscal responsibility in Congress – is no easy task. But there is one place where concerned citizens in both parties can begin: Changing the source of money that funds all campaigns.
I like Valentino a lot – they never use actresses in their campaigns.
Trump delights in building his campaigns around white Americans’ racial anxieties.
I resent the idea that Israel is part of the political agenda in United States’ campaigns, really.
Like most meaningful activities, campaigns are team games.
Unless public officials are wealthy and fund their own campaigns, the only place they can turn to is lobbyists and institutions like labor unions and corporations.
The reality is that asking the public to fund political campaigns accomplishes nothing. Candidates continue to seek interest-group support through other channels, both financial and in-kind, and corruption problems abound.
I respect and empathize with reporters and editors who must compete in today’s environment. And I know full well that when I’ve been covering campaigns, which I still do, I’ve made my mistakes and have been far from perfect.
It is an honor to serve as the Ad Council’s next Chair of the Board of Directors. I am deeply committed to its mission of creating campaigns that improve everyday lives. I look forward to working with the Ad Council team and Board to continue to shine a light on the most important social issues of our day.
Between yellow ribbon magnets, patriotic anthems at sports games and corporate marketing campaigns, the rhetoric that those in uniform are protecting freedom is hammered into the psyche of Americans at every turn.
What we have is two important values in conflict: freedom of speech and our desire for healthy campaigns in a healthy democracy. You can’t have both.
I think I know a lot about campaigns.
My Pirelli calendar is hanging on the wall of my friend’s frat house, and he doesn’t know anything about fashion. That balance is what leads to big campaigns outside of fashion. But I never want to choose one or the other. Both commercial and high fashion are what make my job so interesting.
Just like it would be wrong to have a player referee a game, it’s wrong for election officials to participate in federal campaigns.
The campaigns and the models in them create the fantasy around the brand. It has always been about having strong images. Without that, we could not have gone into all the categories we did. It really has been the foundation from where the house of Guess was built.
I had the opportunity to go and read to cancer patients in hospitals and saw how something as little as that could make someone’s day. I also think it’s important to support people who are standing up for a good cause, so that’s why I get involved with different campaigns and charities.
I worked on congressional campaigns when I was a teenager. I did United Way fundraisers when I was a teen. We advocated; we spoke out. I protested the first Iraq War in college.
Nowadays it seems more and more like the ‘business’ in ‘show business’ is underlined, and there are campaigns, and it’s all part of getting people in to see the movies.
Campaigns are about adjustments.
Because of tax laws governing charities, including almost every single civil rights organization you’ve ever heard of, including the NAACP, the Urban League, the ACLU, and others, those organizations are not allowed to endorse political candidates or use their resources in political campaigns of any kind.
The increasingly progressive messages in marketing campaigns are clearly a mercenary attempt to entice millennials: they are trying to be ‘woke.’
A CBS spokesman said the network’s policy was tightened in September 2006 to forbid contributions to political campaigns. Previously, there was a bit of wiggle room.
People are moping around and I think campaigns can be about lifting the spirits of the American people.
You cannot hurl textbook principles of right and wrong in the age of fake news, WhatsApp campaigns and personality-centric cult politics. Elections are not a moral science class.
Campaigns are weird animals and innately bring out bizarre road stories.
I mean, casting gender non-conforming people in campaigns and editorials and on covers of magazines is a risk for any business because there’s going to be controversy, but I think they need to take the risk and believe they’re moving in the right direction.
A lot of the time, we’re shooting summer campaigns in winter because they have to come out the next season. It’s the hardest to feel great in a bikini when it’s cold… so I appreciate a swimsuit shoot that’s in warm weather.
We need to organise unapologetically anti-racist campaigns in our communities, ones that emphasise the fact that the blame for social ills lies with the powerful.
I think there was certainly contact between the Trump campaign and Russians, which is perfectly normal. All campaigns in the modern age have contact with representatives of foreign governments.
No, sir, I’m not saying that charming, witty and warm copy won’t sell. I’m just saying I’ve seen thousands of charming, witty campaigns that didn’t sell.
The Indians began to be troublesome all around me, killing and wounding cattle, stealing horses, and threatening to attack us. I was obliged to make campaigns against them and punish them.
China’s one-child policy punishes families for having ‘out-of-plan’ children, resulting in sex-selective abortion and tens of millions of ‘missing girls’ as well as forced abortion and sterilization campaigns.
That’s what all of us want, why we’re getting involved in so many campaigns – we want to leave football in a better place than when we came into it.
I’m very much a believer that it’s action that matters much more so than, you know, the flurry of political promises and statements and slogans that are used during political campaigns.
We live in a world where all wars will begin as cyber wars… It’s the combination of hacking and massive, well-coordinated disinformation campaigns.
In presidential campaigns, experience as a candidate is an invaluable asset.
You now have six-year campaigns for the Senate – you never stop running. It’s not uncommon for a member of the Senate to have a fundraising breakfast, a fundraising lunch and a fundraising dinner, and then when the Senate breaks for the week to go home, more fundraisers. And that’s driven by the cost of campaigning.
There probably could be some mileage in running a comparative study about how best to finance electoral campaigns around the world.
When governments rely increasingly on sophisticated public relations agencies, public debate disappears and is replaced by competing propaganda campaigns, with all the accompanying deceits. Advertising isn’t about truth or fairness or rationality, but about mobilising deeper and more primitive layers of the human mind.
For those uninitiated in the art of guerrilla war tactics: Smear campaigns never run fair or square. So just to set the record straight: I’m not a drug addict, I don’t smoke or drink and I’m most definitely not a lesbian.
People do not like negative campaigns.
With super PACs, we’ve seen voter turnout go up; interest in elections rise; and the number of competitive races increase. The campaigns of 2010 and 2012 have been more issue-oriented than their predecessors, not less.
One strange quality of writing about political campaigns is that it’s a little like writing about a baseball game inning by inning. We presume we can say something about the final result from the state of play a third of the way through. You can when a game is a colossal blowout, but you can’t when it’s close.
A lot of people abroad know Lula’s campaigns against poverty and hunger, but he had a tremendous legacy in education too. He invested 2 percent of GDP, more than other administration, putting the PT’s education programs in motion.
People try to sell a fantasy with beauty campaigns. Overly Photoshopped, perfect, white, thin figures are a standard that most people still hold as beautiful because the industry says so.
What I do is sometimes – at least in Germany – met with wounding campaigns. I always face the question: should I grow myself a thick skin and ignore it, or should I let myself be wounded? I’ve decided to be wounded, since, if I grew a thick skin, there are other things I wouldn’t feel any more.
A lot of times when people are on campaigns, it can be like a movie set.
Ideas matter. Legislative proposals matter. Slick campaigns and dazzling speeches can work for a while, but the magic always wears off.

Campaigns end, revolutions endure.
It’s not like I have campaigns, I don’t want to be an activist or anything.
I’ve worked on a variety of campaigns and fought for a variety of conservative causes for a long time. But it wasn’t until I came back from my military service that I realized I needed to devote myself to others.
