The appeal of the Golden Age heroes for me is their simplicity, even their naivety – they represent the fundamental building blocks of the whole superhero genre, whether it’s a ‘super’ man able to lift cars, or a vigilante who terrorises criminals at night like Batman.

Looking at the Batman pages is like revisiting my youth. My first seven years in New York were the first seven years of Batman itself. While my time on Batman was important and exciting and notable considering the characters that came out of it, it was really just the start of my life.

As much as everyone says that Superman is good, a lot of other people might say that that’s why they find him boring… A lot of Batman fans might say that.

I think Batman is a great character in that he has a lot of internalization, and his heroics come from a dark place.

To some degree, I don’t think ‘Batman’ works in a completely modern city; I think Gotham has be reflective of his personality and those of his enemies.

There have been many times when you spend a number of months and the finished product is not what you wanted to see. And ‘Batman Begins’ was what I wanted to see.

As much as I enjoy seeing other guys do the superhero approach to the Batman universe, personally my own vision falls a bit left of center.

In Hollywood, the guy who plays Batman and Spiderman also plays normal characters. The biggest stars in the world want to play different characters. We can’t give the excuse that because an actor played a superhero in his previous film, his next one won’t work.

We saw someone dressed as Batman, in a white Batman outfit… it was Jaden Smith.

I’m kind of living a Bruce Wayne life and then morphing into Batman, but I’m glad now Batman comes out during the day. That’s kind of like how drag was: we were called upon at night to make people smile and laugh and clap.

What’s happened is that every time I go to a convention or go into a comic book shop is that people drag me off into a corner and beat me up and go, ‘When are you going to do Batman again?’

I wouldn’t want to be Superman. Batman would be cool. But the one I’ve always wanted to play is the Joker. There is a maniacal and dangerous side to me.

I don’t want to be like Spider-man or Batman, the do-gooder kind of thing.

We like Batman – we understand him, we suffer with him. On the other hand, we want to be Superman. But they’re conflicting philosophies. Let’s bring them together in one movie and see how we, as an audience, wrestle with our inner demons.

No one’s an overnight sensation unless you’re Batman.

My youngest son has a very clear idea of what he wants to be when he grows up: he wants to be Indiana Jones, Batman and Jack Sparrow. Yes, all three at the same time. So he basically wants to be an archaeologist who wears tights and fights crimes on pirate ships. That’s pretty cool, huh?

There were definitely times when I regretted ever being Batman.

My favourite superhero? I have a soft spot for Batman, because he doesn’t have any super powers – he’s just a person. And he’s pretty dark.

I was into Batman. I was into Spider-Man.

Warner Bros offered me the next Batman, and the only reason that I didn’t do it was because of The Saint.

Batman’s got this whole cloaked ‘man of mystery’ thing around him and represents a wish fulfillment. He’s more driven than Superman yet is also very human.

Persistence is half the battle. That’s what I love about independent movies. They don’t have to be made. There’s no studio with an agenda to set up a franchise like ‘Batman’ or to make a vehicle for a celebrity actor. My films are made because I love the process.

If I want to do something like the Batman mask, I just do it. I was like this all the time; I think nobody can change me.

I really liked the design of Batman. I liked the concept. There’s a lot more you can do with Batman than most other superheroes.

I’m digging Batman. I’m digging that balance, that duality. He’s always on the edge and trying to balance himself within the rules of what’s lawful and justice, and being Bruce Wayne and being Batman.

If we made the ‘Batman’ games more realistic, you’d have to be Bruce Wayne for half the game, counting his money and dating supermodels.

We work in an environment where your options are to do, you know, Batman 10, so when you get to do a movie that’s a really great film like this, people really step up to the plate and enjoy it.

‘Batman’ was scary.

I can’t imagine seeing Batman in black and white. It was such a colourful TV series. I know. I’m ancient. It wasn’t abnormal to be without a television in those days. People who had colour were special.

I think I would play Batman. I love Batman.

I’m a Batman fan from Day 1. My daughter’s favorite is Wonder Woman, and my son loves The Flash, Cyborg, and Superman.

‘Fan’ is an understatement. I had the Spider-Man costume, I had bed sheets, toys, you name it. I’ve always had an argument with my best friend that Spider-Man was way better than Batman. I was a massive fan growing up.

I was a big Batman fan when I was a kid.

Wonder Woman isn’t Spider-man or Batman. She doesn’t have a town, she has a world. That was more interesting to me than a kind of contained, rote superhero franchise.

Superman is pretty much the way he was – you know – what he’s always been. A lot of the Marvel characters are products of their time. I think Batman, as a character, has been able to adapt; he’s pretty malleable.

Danger Mouse’ is James Bond essentially. A rodent James Bond. Oh and slightly Batman too I suppose. And let’s chuck in a little bit Superman while we’re there. He’s an old-fashion swashbuckling hero.

I mostly play one-player games like ‘Batman’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed.’

I actually grew up watching a lot of these cartoons – a lot of the animated series. ‘Batman: The Animated Series,’ ‘Justice League,’ all the stuff that would come onto Cartoon Network.

Batman is dark and moody and spooky and, in some cases, methodical.

I played Li’l Abner and Batman in school plays; I wanted to be an actor to play all these different characters.

As it turned out, if you look at the history, everything in superhero comic books pretty much lies between Superman and Batman: Superman being the greatest superhero there is, and Batman being the one of the few superheroes who has no superpowers and is, in fact, not a superhero.

I want my weekends off and I want to put my kids to bed. Those are good reasons to want to be in ‘Batman 2’.

Besides Spiderman and Batman, ‘The Flash’ has, hands down, the best villains. You could do a TV show about The Rogues, and there’s enough depth and interest and oddly honor amongst those characters that I think people will watch that show.

I remember the dark days when, thanks to 1966’s ‘Batman’ with Adam West, comics were considered the ugly stepchild of popular culture.

I’m not a big guy anyway. I’m only, what, 150 pounds? I was 190 for ‘Batman,’ 179 for ‘Warrior.’ Films make you look big.

I always knew the way in was Bruce Wayne. It wasn’t Batman. It was never Batman. That was the key.

I know the Mad Hatter has a long history in the ‘Batman’ canon. He’s quite a historically rich character, and he’s come in a lot of shapes and forms and interpretations.

When I was writing ‘Black Panther,’ on one level, I was angry because DC would never let me write ‘Batman,’ so I was doing Marvel’s ‘Batman,’ and Reverend Achebe became sort of the Joker to Panther’s Batman.

What makes Batman and what makes other superheroes work is the myth that when life is at its lowest, and when you need a hero, a hero swings down and helps you.

I think the oldest comic I got when I was a kid was an issue of ‘World’s Finest’ – it had a Neal Adams cover with Batman where he had turned into a bat, and he was attacking Superman.

Let’s be realistic – 90% of superheroes are male. Personally, I prefer Superman, Batman and Spider-Man to Wonder Woman. Not that I don’t like female superheroes, but watching male superheroes gives me a high.

When I got the part, I tried to remember Batman as I knew him when I was a kid – with emotional recall.

I can easily come up with ten really iconic stories/trade paperbacks for Superman, Batman, others… name me ten equally big, iconic Wonder Woman stories. Much harder. That ain’t the character’s fault, that isn’t sexism, that’s just not servicing the character.

When you’re a kid, and you’re a superhero lover, the holy trinity is Batman, Superman and Spider-Man, so to be able to take any of those and play with it is a huge joy.

‘Birdman’ is basically ‘All About Eve’ – the 1950 comedy about rehearsal rivalries in a Broadway show, and another Best Picture laureate – reimagined as a Batman suicide mission. The movie couldn’t be actor-ier.

And I did Batman, too. I did Mr. Freeze. I get more mail for him than anything I’ve ever done.

To be honest with you, I didn’t really read a lot of DC comics as a kid, but I was obsessed with Batman and still am.

When I read the news that Wonder Woman was going to be resurrected for a blockbuster movie in 2016, ‘Batman vs. Superman’, it made me excited – and anxious. Would the producers give her a role as fierce as her origins – and maybe some shoulder straps – or would she just be cartoon eye candy?

I grew up watching Wonder Woman; I grew up watching Batman. I grew up watching George Reeves as Superman.

How can an article about me or the Batman be the true story when I am not consulted or interviewed?

As to Batman, turns out I really prefer Robin over the Dark Knight.

The great thing about Batman and Superman, in truth, is that they are literally transcendent. They are better than most of the stories they are in.

I really didn’t have any plan for her other than the henchgirl role, who was better at getting laughs out of the other gang members than the Joker was. I gave her the name Harley Quinn because I thought Harley was a fun name for a girl, and a lot of ‘Batman’ character names have a bit of a pun to them, like E Nygma.

Superheroes fill a gap in the pop culture psyche, similar to the role of Greek mythology. There isn’t really anything else that does the job in modern terms. For me, Batman is the one that can most clearly be taken seriously.

Batman is like the audience’s eyes and ears in ‘Justice League Dark.’

I think ‘Batman Begins’ is certainly my favorite Batman movie I’ve seen.
