All it takes is a single person coming into or going out of the jail or prison with COVID-19, and the entire jail will likely be infected. Most jails have people living in very close quarters.
The First Amendment applies to rogues and scoundrels. You don’t lose your First Amendment rights because of a sleazy personality, or even for having committed a crime. Felons in jail are protected by the First Amendment.
Let my son stay in jail a little longer. It will make him tougher and wiser.
Many queer and trans people live – and lived – in our prison and jails, in our homeless shelters, in run-down houses and apartment buildings, and on the corners of every major city. Marriage equality doesn’t help them; and the potential loss of momentum for trans/queer rights after this win could well hurt them.
I’ve always had some level of having to be independent outside of music because the music wasn’t a smooth ride. We lost a lot in the mix: Everybody that I came in the music game with – friends I brought in with me – are all doing 10-34 years in jail. That’s why if you want to get the real, you gotta get it from me.
Prisons are out of public sight, and most often out of mind. But the vast majority of prisoners will at some point leave jail and rejoin our communities, which is why what happens inside matters to us all.
