I don’t want to sound trite, but ‘Star Wars’ really, really impacted me.
Some of my happiest childhood memories are going to the movies with my dad and seeing whatever was out that week. In 1977, when I was 7, it was ‘Star Wars.’ That was a life-changer.
To me the biggest breakthrough was when we did Terminator 2 that just opened the door for Jurassic and all of the others and that was as big as when we did motion control on Star Wars. But I don’t see another big thing coming.
Growing up, we used to watch a lot of ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘Star Wars’ and wear hand-me-down jeans and jumpers. I wasn’t really one for dresses.
We can watch videos of our whole journey – from old tours to doing the AMAs (American Music Awards) in 2013 and through the ‘Star Wars’ medley or when we sang with Stevie Wonder on the Grammys. I just sit back and say, ‘I can’t believe we did all this!’
I love ‘Star Wars,’ you know, and I can’t remember the last story meeting I’ve been in where ‘Star Wars’ wasn’t referenced. It’s so perfect in so many ways.
The thing about ‘Star Wars’ is that every single person is important. Even though Rey is a big role, everyone influences everyone. If that wasn’t so, why would so many people remember Admiral Ackbar?
If I rewind back to that period, I was 8 in 1977 when ‘Star Wars’ was in theaters. I saved up money, or my parents got me the ‘Art of Star Wars’ book.
All animation is a tremendous amount of work, but when you put ‘Star Wars’ on the top of something, there’s already this bar that people are going to put on it.
I just watch movies I like over and over. It seems to be a lot of sci-fi stuff. My favorites are probably – besides the first two ‘Alien’ films, I watch ‘2001’, I watch ‘Star Wars’, the first ones, because those actually had a huge effect on me as well, ‘Empire Strikes Back’ especially.
Maybe I should have taken a few chances. That’s not to say I want to go make ‘Star Wars’, but I need to shift my career into the studio world. That’s where my head was at when I thought of the original plot.
‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Star Wars’ shoved me into loving sci-fi and film in general when I was a barely coherent 3-year-old. And ‘Lord of the Rings’ took me to another planet entirely. Before that series, I knew I loved writing, but after, I knew that I had to write.
We could perform in space or be the first band to play moon, but we want to be the first ‘Star Wars’ band.
There were a lot of great memories around ‘Star Wars.’ It was a foundation – probably for my interest in movies.
I didn’t see ‘Star Wars’ in theaters until George Lucas re-tweaked it.
What we need is Star Peace and not Star Wars.
Funnily enough, I had a real giggle with Gary Oldman when we were doing an interview together for ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.’ Because I joked I was probably the only British actor who wasn’t in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise. The same is true of ‘Game of Thrones.’ Also ‘Star Wars.’
The main stuff I like is from the late ’60s to the early ’90s. That’s the stuff I love. It’s the James Cameron’s and the Paul Verhoven stuff. I guess when I was younger, ‘Star Wars’ had an influence.
I mean listen, ultimately I’m positive George Lucas was inspired by ‘Dune’ when he made ‘Star Wars.’ I don’t know if that’s sacrilegious to talk about, but there are a lot of similarities in some areas, so you could tell he was definitely influenced by that.
I don’t know if the ’80s were unique, but we certainly got original, groundbreaking stuff at the time with movies like ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Star Wars’ – movies that became classics.
When I found out this was going to be the last ‘Star Wars’ film that was ever going to be made, I felt pretty privileged to be in it.
I think, actually, any morality system that rewards only the extremes is a flawed system. Players don’t approach life that way, they don’t approach games that way, and they shouldn’t be trained to approach games that way. They shouldn’t be in the ‘Star Wars’ mode where, ‘I’ve got to choose every good option.’
I liked how ‘Star Wars’ felt both old and new. I even built a model of R2-D2, taking about two months mixing two kits to make one that looked just like the real thing. I’m the kind of person who gets really into it when I do something like that.
Words fail to express how surreal and humbling it feels to be invited into the ‘Star Wars’ universe.
I am a tremendous ‘Star Wars’ fan; I know the story means an enormous love to me. I love the characters.
Isn’t everybody a ‘Star Wars’ fan?
I guess because I’m so young, I m not sure of what lies ahead for me. I’m more into going the route of producing and directing. I just made a little short film. I’m more excited about going the route of doing a Drew Barrymore or… what’s the one from ‘Star Wars?’
The only answer to the question ‘Which is the worst of the ‘Star Wars’ movies?’ is, there is no worst ‘Star Wars’ movie. There – one might be the least amazing and fantastic, but there’s none that is the worst of the ‘Star Wars’ movies.
‘Star Wars’ is a grand soap opera, and ‘Star Trek’ is about technology, they tried to explain the reality of it, as far-fetched as it might be. And that’s why I’ve always liked the science behind the fiction.
‘Star Wars’ is fun, its exciting, its inspirational, and people respond to that. It’s what they want.
I don’t have sophisticated tastes. I have average tastes. If you looked in my collection of DVDs, you’d see ‘Jaws’ and ‘Star Wars.’ In the book library, you’d see John Grisham and Sidney Sheldon. And if you look in my fridge, it’s, like, children’s food – chips, milkshakes, yogurt.
Performing the American Music Awards and having Harrison Ford introduce you behind the John Williams orchestra for Star Wars, and then Meghan Trainor is in the front just standing up and like, ‘I love you guys!’ That was a huge moment.
My favourite film is probably ‘Star Wars’. I do love ‘Starship Troopers’, it is a great film but it’s not a film I watch over and over again. Whereas ‘Star Wars’ I’ve watched over and over again all my life, and it’s a film I can tolerate watching with my children.
I am a geek in terms of, I love ‘Close Encounters’ and I love ‘Star Wars,’ but other things… ‘Doctor Who,’ I don’t really care about at all, I couldn’t give a fig about it.
Ronald Reagan said that he sought a Star Wars defense only in order to share the technology with the tyrants of the U.S.S.R.
I have to say I wasn’t a huge fan of ‘Star Wars’, and I’m still not, really, but you have to acknowledge that there’s a huge fan base for it, and these people are really sweet. You can’t stereotype a ‘Star Wars’ fan.
I had to forget a lot of ‘Star Wars’ when I was making ‘Dune.’ It wasn’t hard, though.
‘Star Wars’ or ‘The Lord of the Rings’ deal with great big Joseph Campbell-style myths, good and evil.
I’m a big fan of ‘Star Wars.’ Some of the most iconic characters of ‘Star Wars,’ we didn’t see their faces but to this day you can say Jabba the Hutt or Darth Vader and people know what you mean around the world.
I was a comic book nut and grew up on ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Indiana Jones.’
I think it’s always wise to be concerned about any of the characters in ‘Star Wars,’ right?
Nothing will turn you into more of a ‘Star Wars’ fan than being on a ‘Star Wars’ set. When you see how lovingly that world is rendered by the set designers, costume designers, props department, art department, they genuinely build an actual world. That is not an exaggeration. They build a world.
I wanted to be a film composer because I heard scores that could stand alone, from ‘Vertigo’ to ‘Star Wars’ to ‘La Dolce Vita,’ because this music has so much history. They’re weighed with the history of music. They come from somewhere, they have a past.
From being a little kid, I’ve always been interested in space. ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Close Encounters’ – not ‘Star Wars.’
My father watched all the ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Wars’ that you could imagine, along with the martial arts. So I was into all that as a youngster, and I always rooted for the bad guy.
‘Star Wars’ is life, but ‘Star Wars’ is also not very good, which is why ‘Rogue One’ – a Frankenstein’s monster assembled from a butchered first cut and an excessively large space antenna that only exists to add another 30 minutes to the film – is one of the better ‘Star Wars’ movies.
I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t inspired by ‘Star Wars.’
People will talk about character arcs, but you look at the character arc of C-3PO from ‘Star Wars’ to ‘Return of the Jedi,’ and it’s a complete 180… he’s not so much of a coward and a fussbudget.
It would be excellent to do a ‘Star Wars.’
One of the big moments of my life was watching ‘Star Wars’ on its opening weekend in Hollywood. I was watching all these people enjoy this film, and I thought: animation can do this.
I’d always watch ‘Star Wars’ for the Ewoks.
Growing up, I really liked ‘Star Wars.’ Han Solo would’ve been really cool to meet. But my stuff was real low-brow. I was watching ‘Bugs Bunny.’
For ‘Star Wars’ I had to develop a whole new idea about special effects to give it the kind of kinetic energy I was looking for. I did it with motion-control photography.
It was the money from ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Jaws’ that allowed the theaters to build their multiplexes, which allowed an opening up of screens.
