To have a player like Harry Kane is unbelievable because he gives us security. He makes us feel safe because he has character and is the best striker.
‘Harry Potter’ is the first book that ever got me into reading. I had to read it in year 7, for school, and then I kept reading all of them.
Some people compare Spike Spiegel to Dirty Harry, and they’re both antiheroes. But Spike is an extension of myself.
‘Harry Potter’ achieved a very special act of actual magic: it made it completely acceptable for an adult to carry around, read and enjoy a children’s book.
The anime that inspired me the most and one that I probably have influence from is the very first series of ‘Lupin the 3rd.’ I’m very drawn to ‘Enter the Dragon’ and ‘Dirty Harry,’ too. They definitely inspire me.
I’ll tell you, being on set on ‘Harry Potter’ was nerve-wracking. It was surreal to be in a room with those three kids, all of whom know exactly what they’re doing.
There’s different types of strikers: Harry Kane is a wonderful finisher, Jamie Vardy has great pace and has come onto the scene exceptionally well and is playing consistently, and Wayne Rooney is a player I have admired during all of his career.
For me, the triad of ‘Harry Potter,’ the ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘Twilight’ feature strong women, and as a declared feminist, it’s a wonderful thing. These women have really opened up this particular world of storytelling, which I’m very grateful for.
I chose deliberately for Harry Bosch to age chronologically with the books.
Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films and was the family comedy king through the ’80s and ’90s – ‘Mrs. Doubtfire,’ ‘Home Alone,’ etc. – has acquired rights to ‘The Cypress House’ and is working on the script himself, with intent to direct.
American politics are rich with characters and stereotypes – Joe the Plumber, Harry and Louise, Nascar dads and hockey moms, to name a few. But one persistent type hasn’t gotten much attention: the Republican football coach.
A lot of directors are great and they are fine but you know I think that Harry really takes a special point to really engage the actors and really make it feel like a safe place for them to explore whatever it is they want to explore in whatever scene with their character.
I am as independent as I want to be, same as Catherine and Harry. We’ve all grown up differently to other generations and I very much feel if that I can do it myself, I want to do it myself.
Harry Truman, with what he did in dropping and having the guts to drop the bomb in 1944, saved – saved millions of American lives.
I hope people will never stop dressing up as Harry Potter. It feels less to me like something you wear because you think it’s a great costume idea and more like something you wear because you really like wearing your Hogwarts robe, and you really only get the one chance per year.
My understanding of current music stopped in 2006, so I am continually inspired by music from the past. Three Dog Night, Harry Nilsson, Bob Dylan, Herman’s Hermits, Association, Eagles, Beatles, Stones, Turtles, Animals… this list goes on forever.
I just didn’t feel like a Glen. Not that I’m ‘divine.’ But it’s just become a name like Tom, Dick or Harry. There’s no special meaning to it.
The only reason I’m in ‘Kingsman’ is because Matthew enjoys playing with the unexpected. I’m not playing Harry Hart because I’m the butchest actor in Britain. I’m playing it because he said I’m the last person anyone would expect to see in that role!
The protests against Harry Potter follow a tradition that has been growing since the early 1980s and often leaves school principals trembling with fear that is then passed down to teachers and librarians.
Toffee Crisp was my downfall. I once ate five at a sitting. Do you really need that third helping, Harry? My parents didn’t overfeed me, nor did they make an issue of it. That’s when things go wrong. It doesn’t have to be a problem for children to be fat, but it does affect you: you aren’t as happy in that skin.
Historians turning their hands to fiction are all the rage. Since Alison Weir led the way in 2006, an ever-growing number of established non-fiction writers – Giles Milton, Simon Sebag Montefiore, Harry Sidebottom, Patrick Bishop, Ian Mortimer and myself included – have written historical novels.
The first memory I have was my sisters dancing to the radio when they played records by Benny Goodman and Harry James and of the sort. But the record that got me was a record by Derek Sampson, who was a young guy, called ‘Boogie Express,’ and it was boogie-woogie. Really, it was on fire, and that got me.
The first thing I thought when I finished Ernest Cline’s ‘Ready Player One’ was, ‘My God, it’s the grown-up’s ‘Harry Potter.” Now this is from a mega ‘HP’ fan, so I mean business, here.
My favourite England player is Harry Kane.
I love ‘Harry Potter.’ I’m a huge nerd – I would dress up if I could.
Everybody, I think, that was in ‘Harry Potter’ was certainly introduced to an enormous lot of young people.
I went to an audition for a Harry Belafonte Roaring Twenties special for choreographer Donald McKayle, but I failed.
Every hero must return home. Starks to Winterfell. Harry to Privet Drive. Luke Skywalker to Tattoine. Katniss to District twelve. The fun is in seeing how they return.
‘Harry Potter’ created a generation of readers in an era when kids could have disappeared into the depths of the Internet. That’s no small feat. Every book series owes J.K. Rowling a debt of gratitude.
We met Prince Harry!
I will start shooting for part two of ‘Tom Dick and Harry’ for which I am turning into a comedian and this is a big jump in my career.
I have been in five Harry Potter films and never read a ‘Harry Potter’ book. If you are an actor, all you have is the script you are given. If you read the book, you might get disappointed about what’s been left out.
Harry Collins was the first magician I ever saw back in 1965 when I was five years old. He was doing a magic show and I was the volunteer from the audience.
My entire career writing novels was wrapped up around Harry Bosch. This character was too important to me to just hand off.
And religion causes most of the problems, war, and economics of course, and study your history or you’re going to repeat it; and if you’re burning a Harry Potter book you need some serious counseling, you don’t get it, you’re missing the whole point.
If you like Harry Hill, you’d really like Tony Law. He’s a Canadian comic who’s done a few appearances on ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ and ‘8 out of 10 Cats.’ Nobody else could do his stand-up; it’s very idiosyncratic, very daft, very silly, but really well structured.
My friend Harry Belafonte is an activist and musician, an extraordinary man who has dedicated his life to human rights. He taught me the power of words and that music can be used to heal and educate people.
Under Harry Redknapp we signed Rafa van der Vaart. It was like, ‘Wow, how did he do that?’
Harry Truman wrote scathing letters, but he almost never sent them.
Here’s the thing with ‘When Harry Met Sally,’ it doesn’t matter how many times you watch it, it’s always interesting, and you’re always identifying with a different scene in the movie – at least I am.
My mother’s husband Harry Bloom was a writer, a novelist, a reporter, and an anti-apartheid activist.
I read the last Harry Potter, and I cried for at least the last 70 pages. Awful! I was curled into a ball and I just kept sobbing. It was embarrassing. I was loud, and I just kept wiping tears away so I could see the page.
If, like Harry Keogh, I could talk to the dead – God, there are an awful lot of people I would like to speak to! Not least my father. Being in the army for 22 years, I didn’t see enough of him, and I know there are a great many things I could have learned from him.
I don’t want to hear that Harry Belafonte is out there. It forces me not to see the audience as an anonymous mass.
Harry Reid is not funny; he’s creepy. Nancy Pelosi is creepy. Charles Schumer is sneaky and creepy.
I did ‘Deathly Hallows’ so my kids could get on the ‘Harry Potter’ set. They met Daniel Radcliffe, who was a darling and couldn’t have been nicer to them so I’m a hero right now.
One week I was in school and the next I’m at Leavesden Studios in Dumbledore’s office reading scenes with Daniel Radcliffe. Weird. And terrifying for such a huge ‘Harry Potter’ fan.
Some of the best advice I’ve gotten was from William Hurt and Harry Connick Jr. I’ve really learned a lot from both of them.
I’ve basically grown up with Harry Potter, as so many kids my age have. It’s kind of a part of my life.
I have spent many, many hours reading J.K. Rowling’s work. I am a known ‘Harry Potter’ fan.
In the greed-is-good tradition of the ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Twilight’ movie franchises, the overseers of ‘The Hunger Games’ have split the last book into two films.
As a kid, I always loved serialized books. It’s the reason why people love ‘Harry Potter.’ Serialization is amazing. It works in television. It works in film and it works in books. Especially when you’re a young kid, you get attached to these characters.
Today you have something like A Film by Joe Harry. That is patently asinine and ridiculous.
I’m a sucker for ‘When Harry Met Sally’ and all that romantic stuff.
