In my community of minimalists, there are really wealthy people who work at stock brokerage firms, there are people who are unemployed, but it doesn’t seem to matter. We’re all really good friends, and we get along really well. It’s a very varied and diverse community.
I was 5 years old when the stock market crashed; I lost everything.
The stock market is an exploitable market where being right means you get rich and you help the overall system error-correct which makes it harder to be right (the mechanism pushes prices close to random, they’re not quite random but few can exploit the non-randomness).
People put stock in someone being in a ‘girl group,’ but we don’t say that a band is a ‘man group.’
The Left puts their stock in substance and lives on identity and figureheads. It will be the end of the Right to do the same.
Normally I would not recommend a book that tells you how to make money in the stock market. Most of these books are aimed at gullible folk, and they usually make much more money for their authors than they do for the investing public.
Basically, what I do is place a stop, generally 10 to 20 percent below the current price, whenever I buy a stock. The exact level depends on my own analysis of a stock’s trading pattern. If a stock violates this stop, I’m out.
I did a bunch of blue-collar jobs, because I knew I’d wind up with a white-collar job at some point, and I wanted to, I don’t know, I just wanted to taste life. I dug graves for a while, I worked as a stock boy in a big department store, I worked in a bank.
Unfortunately, our stock is somehow not well understood by the markets. The market compares us with generic companies. We need to look at Biocon as a bellwether stock. A stock that is differentiated, a stock that is focused on R&D, and a very, very strong balance sheet with huge value drivers at the end of it.
Ranchers need clean water for their stock, farmers need it for their crops, every employer needs it to stay in business, and every living thing needs it for life… The law needs to be clear to protect water quality and the rights of landowners.
Smoot and Hawley ginned up The Tariff Act of 1930 to get America back to work after the Stock Market Crash of ’29. Instead, it destroyed trade so effectively that by 1932, American exports to Europe were just a third of what they had been in 1929. World trade fell two-thirds as other nations retaliated. Jobs evaporated.
The genius of the French language, descended from its single Latin stock, has triumphed most in the contrary direction – in simplicity, in unity, in clarity, and in restraint.
Facebook is like the Internet: a large company and an application. Bitcoin is a protocol for decentralisation, so you could build a decentralised company on top of it, a stock market. It’s an Internet of ownership, so it’s not quite a direct comparison.
At one point, Sarah Palin sent her husband instructions to stock up on ‘fresh fruit and veggies’ for the kids, and ‘as little processed foods as possible.’
Stock market bubbles don’t grow out of thin air. They have a solid basis in reality, but reality as distorted by a misconception.
What’s true for churches is true for other institutions: the older and more organized they get, the less adaptable they become. That’s why the most resilient things in our world – biological life, stock markets, the Internet – are loosely organized.
The United States is the only country where a driver can have a successful career – either in stock cars or IndyCar – and he won’t need a passport.
Miso makes a soup loaded with flavour that saves you the hassle of making stock.
If some stock categories get too hot-and-pricey, mass supply is created via stock offerings to tap that cheap money – and, when overdone, drives it all down.
We invite American companies looking to raise capital to list on the Bahrain Stock Exchange. The region has a liquidity oversupply approximating $1 trillion and this pool of capital can be tapped into by creative American companies. The next Facebook may very well get funded on the BSE.
I was a stock broker once. I think there is an absolute place for market investments. But they should never be the basis of one’s retirement. They should be an additional piece on top of a basic, secure, guaranteed retirement benefit.
The first stock I bought was Tata Tea, the first stock where I made big money was also Tata Tea.
I hate weekends because there is no stock market.
If employed by employee stock ownership plan companies, working Americans can spend less time worrying about job security and retirement savings and enjoy a clearer path to prosperity.
I put less stock in others’ opinions than my own. No one else’s opinions could derail me.
An interesting thing happened in 1989, right as I was graduating: the stock market crashed and really changed the landscape of the art world in New York. It made the kind of work I was doing interesting to galleries that wouldn’t have normally been interested in it.
I had been doing summer stock every summer while I was in college. We did a showcase, like most good conservatories do – monologues and things that agents and casting directors come to see. From that I got an agent.
Why if I had half a chance, I could make an entire movie using this stock footage. The story opens on these mysterious explosions. Nobody knows what’s causing them, but it’s upsetting all the buffalo. So, the military are called in to solve the mystery.
And that’s what I liked about it, because they are, in the beginning, your little beautiful stock figures, who then make a decision to preserve their futures, but the decision they make isn’t completely right, and it destroys their futures.
When my book ‘Rich Dad’s Prophecy’ was released in 2002, most financial newspapers and magazines trashed it because I discussed a looming stock market crash.
If only the majority of the wealthiest top 10 percent of Americans own stock directly – which does not include pension and retirement accounts – then the divide between rich and poor is likely to expand.
I was with the Jessie Bonstelle Stock Company in Detroit and Buffalo for three seasons – 10 performances and a new play every week. She was an amazing woman who did a great deal for me.

It was the early 1970s and I was recently divorced. I had three kids and was totally broke. I managed to find work back east on the straw-hat circuit – summer stock – but couldn’t afford hotels, so I lived out of the back of my truck, under a hard shell.
Abraham, a simple farmer, at a word from the Invisible God, marched, with family and stock, through the terrible desert to a distant land to live among a people whose language he could neither speak nor understand! Not bad, that!
I hope that the institution will succeed in maximizing students’ potential in the same way. I will give all of my stock to this institution. It will own the Bose Corporation and be funded by the Bose Corporation.
