I chose Spurs because they gave me a good feeling. I spoke to Daniel Levy and Rafael van der Vaart.
VW has held a beloved place in American culture. When I graduated from college, many of my friends drove across the country, and most hit the road in a VW van or Bug. Through the years, these cars have represented youth, freedom and quirkiness.
My routine is similar to that of a nomad. But I crave for the comforts enjoyed by a normal girl. In fact, while shooting for my debut film, ‘Sanam Teri Kasam,’ I turned my vanity van into my room.
To me, the secret of Eddie Van Halen was Alex Van Halen, because the way Alex played was so loose and the way the two of them locked together… Those two are connected so thoroughly they might as well be one person.
My previous bosses – Louis van Gaal and Marcello Lippi, to name two – have all taught me something.
I just have these terrible memories of our first European tour back in 2007. We had hired this van and tour service from the former Czech Republic called Fluff Wheels, and they sent us out with this 19-year-old vegan driver kid who had no money and refused to eat anything.
As a kid I watched television 24 hours a day and loved every minute of it. The two shows that always make me laugh and are therefore my favourites are The Dick Van Dyke Show and Fawlty Towers.
When I first started touring, we had a crappy van, and we would all share rooms. So for many years as a grown adult woman, I would share a bed with a bandmate, whether it would be Jimmy Tamborello from the Postal Service or Pierre De Reeder from Rilo Kiley, just a pillow barrier between us sleeping on the same bed.
Van Halen is a work in progress.
Van Gaal does a good job wherever he is.
All my life, as down an abyss without a bottom. I have been pouring van loads of information into that vacancy of oblivion I call my mind.
I just want to say this thing about Jonathan Van Ness: I love that boy more than life itself.
Van Halen can keep providing the rain and I’ll keep providing the parade.
People tend to forget you. I didn’t want people to go, ‘That is that guy that used to play in Van Halen. What’s his name again?’
Steve Van Zandt is a very intelligent, smart guy. He’s a historian, he knows a lot about rock n’ roll, a lot about music.
I loved Van Halen; I loved everything we did.
We never set out to be this punk rock band that’s going to stay small and tour in a van forever. We wanted to take our band to a level where we could do everything we want to do.
It was a great experience under Van Gaal. He gave you the confidence to go and play.
I realize there’s a line between looking good and being an embarrassment. I don’t want to be one of those dames who is trying too hard to appear young. I’m Mamie Van Doren, and I fully intend to act my age.
Someone like Van Johnson can spend 52 weeks a year on the road because he doesn’t have a family.
I actually grew up in the ‘burbs – New Rochelle, specifically, most famously home to Rob and Laura Petrie of ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show.’
When we started, we were in a van and looking for change under the seats so we could buy food. We went from that to having a hit and getting to do things like make music videos with million-dollar budgets.
When a ‘Life of Brian’ comes out with Muhammad in the lead role, directed by an Arab equivalent of Theo van Gogh, it will be a huge step forward.
I spoke with Van Gaal, and he said that I only had a one per cent chance of playing in my position, so I headed to Bayer.
My parents were dismayed by my love of horror movies as a young girl, then even more dismayed when I kept rooting for Dracula to win instead of Van Helsing.
I had a desperate need to be Van Gogh or something. Some tremendous artist. Jack’s so successful, what’s wrong with me, why isn’t this working for me? I hated myself.
Private funding was one of the first methods used when MIT funded Bitcoin core developers Gavin Andresen, Wladimir van der Laan, and Cory Fields in 2015.
Journalists are quite surprised outside their dinner parties when they hear where I live. ‘Van Nuys? You still live there?’ It is like saying you’re from Alabama.
By this time it was past six, and the enemy’s van and ours were at too great a distance to engage, I perceived some of their ships stretching to the northward; and I imagined they were going to form a new line.
Just recently I worked with Van Morrison and I came to realize that money can’t make a decent human being out of you.
Punk was key to the early part of me playing guitar. I was really into melodic punk-rock. I related to punk more than Lynyrd Skynyrd or Yes or Van Halen.
I didn’t sign a record deal; I didn’t do any of that. I made my record independently, and I went out and hit the road in a van.
I enjoyed living in Chicago and doing plays for little or no money. I never actually thought that I would leave Chicago, originally. I wasn’t one of those people that had a plan to pack up the van and drive out to Hollywood. I didn’t want to.
I used to get up at six and drive for an hour in my blue van from Bournemouth to Basingstoke – they were the tough days.
There is no club in Europe that wouldn’t want Van Persie at centre-forward.
I’d watch Edwin van der Sar and try and steal things with my eyes from how he played, because he wasn’t all muscles and was a similar build to me.
I have gotten nothing but love since I was diagnosed from the whole metal community. I guess that is true about both David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen. David was very kind to me especially when I was limping and falling and when my hands started getting weak.
When I was at Hamburg, 17 or 18, Ruud van Nistelrooy signed, and he helped me a lot. He saw my first training session, and he talked to me. He told me I was a good player. He gave me confidence, and I want to thank him for that.
I grew up on ’80s action movies… Jean Claude Van Damme, Schwarzenegger, Stallone… If there were ever some opportunity to do that, it’d be great.
I rage against Vincent van Gogh for needing to die at 37, after painting for only ten years.
You have to find hope. Hope is such a shape shifter. You tend to look in the rearview mirror for hope, but when it’s gone, you have to look forward. You have to get in the van and keep driving on.
All the things people hate about touring, I’m excited for, because I’ve never done it before. I’m excited to see places I’ve never seen and be in the van and see if I get carsick while reading.
I love what Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh and Jesus all said – that love is really the driving principle of the creative act. In fact, they would say that great art is always inspired by love.
Art is always an exaggeration in some sense; in color, in form, even in theme, etc… but it has always been this way. It is the same with the nature of some works by Giotto or Massacio, or the color of life as expressed by Van Gogh.
As a child I wanted to be a ballerina, ice-cream van owner, wife of George Michael, a nun, and a music conductor.
In the film industry, we tend to pick up where others have left off, and I’d like to think the influences I picked up from Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Sylvester Stallone and Jean-Claude Van Damme are visible in my work.
I wouldn’t mind meeting Eddie Van Halen. That would be great. We need to invite him to a race.
I run with music all the time. I cannot run without my iPod. I have everything. Teddy Pendergrass. Luther Van Dross. Michael Jackson. Outkast. If an Usher song comes on and it’s fast, I go fast.
I enjoyed working with Van Damme. He is very original person and actor.
You know, most people, they want to go to Hollywood. They want to be a star. They want to be a rock star. That thought never entered any of our minds, the Van Halen family.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many great directors. Different styles, as well, like Gus Van Sant. He just does the casting and the milieu and let’s you do your thing, quietly. Bertolucci, who can talk to you about your internal world in quite a creative way or just say, ‘Well, put your hand over here.’
There’s never been a Van Morrison album that I haven’t immediately listened to, whether with delight or crushing disappointment.
I cannot believe that I get a tour bus. I’ve been traveling in a van for 15 years. I used to look at people who were on buses and be like, ‘Whoa, man, some day.’
I remember Louis van Gaal wearing a tie for every press conference. It must have left an impression because I like to look smart even if I get a bit of stick.
All of us involved say ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’ was the best five years of our lives. We were like otters at play.
I don’t really like that guy, Milner. And to tell you the truth, I don’t like that guy, the defender, Van Dijk.
You have to change your life for yourself, and it’s about the fun of getting there – sitting in the tour van, breaking down on the side of the road, you know, having a laugh with the guys in the band, making mistakes with nobody watching.
I was in church every Sunday till I was 14 or 15. A van used to come and get us, whether we wanted to go or not. I saw people getting the spirit, talking in tongues, juddering, foaming at the mouth – to be honest, I was a bit frightened of it. The minute I could, I stopped going.
