Tween programming is so retro that the shows even have theme songs, something the quest for more commercial time drove out of prime-time television years ago.
My earliest memory is nursing and struggling to see the colored lights making up the map of the world, the famous backdrop for Larry King’s TV show. There’s an ‘I-want-to-do-all-things-at-once’ kind of theme to it.
The theme of the party was Neverland Ranch, so guests were asked to come as anyone or anything associated with Michael Jackson. It was all very disturbing.
For me, a theme that’s always circling around in my head – which is why I love the horror genre – is what we’re ready to do for metaphorical and physical survival.
As an improviser, my nature is to take a theme and constantly rework it.
The theme song of ‘Doug’ was my ringtone once for literally a year.
When I think about my teenage years, when my parents broke up, and feeling alone and being out of control and having to survive… And then other times when you’ve had to find your own way… that’s always been a dominant theme in what I’ve done.
‘Hook’ was one of my favorite movies when I was growing up, so we played with that theme on the title ‘Never Land.’
Always remember: My general theme is ‘There is no message.’ There never has been. Stop trying to find the message or the meaning in everything. That’s. My. Theme.
I love Fredorator and what they produce and the storytelling of ‘Adventure Time’… There’s such a dark, adult underlying theme underneath the whimsical, magical children’s aspect of their storytelling element.
Rachmaninoff made a musician out of me. His ‘Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini’ was the piece that sent me into raptures. It spoke to me. To me, it was a tender entreaty for the misunderstood.
If I could do anything, I think a theme park. Because the world of Lisa Frank really is a world. And I think, before I die, we should have that world someplace, not just on paper. I think that would be pretty awesome.
We are all souls, and what I have learnt so far is that while God is male, the souls created by Him are female, so I always had women as my theme, as they are dedicated to Him.
Seriously, my music really does help my acting, and, like, getting in and out of a character from a different lifestyle and writing a song about it. Likewise, my acting inspires the music because I can write a theme that I wouldn’t necessarily approach at all in life.
I think that’s kind of the common theme when you talk about any good team. Not only do you have the talent and the type of players that allow you to win that many games, but you have to win the ugly ones.
There are half a dozen subjects that I return to time and time again, and that doesn’t bother me. Because most of my favorite writers do that, to hunt down the same topic or theme from different directions each time.
I would like to sing the theme tune of a big film – something like ‘Titanic.’
I’m not saying that every song has to be an all-time hit or the greatest ever music. That’s not what you should set out to do. But you have to find out what will work best for a particular story or theme or backdrop, and discuss how not to make it a cliche or fall into such traps.
Failure has been the great theme of my life, I think.
In a sense, all of my books have been about a ‘poisonous pedagogy,’ which engenders a culture of obedience, this underlying theme of patriarchal systems.
I really like writing for specific projects. It’s a whole different way of writing when you have certain guidelines and a theme you’re writing to. It’s very inspiring.
It’s like a piece of music; you never lose sight of the theme. Each scene pushes off to the next like music builds and you can almost hear the next chord progression, so it has a strict structure, which is very compelling.
Our biggest single theme is trying to make the NIH work better with the same amount of money.
A piazza is not a plaza. The plaza is the theme park of the piazza; the plaza is the commercial version. A piazza is an empty space with no function. This is what Europeans understand.
I love TV. I know all the theme songs from the shows I watch. I’m not one of those who’d rather be a movie star. I prefer TV because of the rushed way of working-on a movie set, you sit around and wait and wait to do a scene because they’re adjusting the lights.
I don’t think that the Supreme Court really takes cases with kind of a theme in mind. They get about 10,000 requests a year, and what are called ‘petitions for certiorari,’ which are essentially 30 page documents which say, ‘Hey, Court, hear my case.’ And they don’t take very many of them.
There is a common theme, though, in the stories I have told, which are usually associations of characters or families that are formed outside of a family circle.
I did an album a long time ago called ‘Replicas,’ which was entirely science-fiction driven, or science-fantasy. Since then it’s been a song here, a song there. It’s not really a constant theme. I’ve written far more about my problems with religion, with God and all that.
I feel like every album I’ve done kind of had a theme.
It’s a big theme in my life, learning about myself and being a better person. I’m a work in progress; I have revelations every day.
I really don’t make a concerted effort to try to find a type of role. Maybe I’ve just done enough of them now where people are like, ‘Oh, it’s the guy that’s in a swirling vortex of despair, send it to Kinnear!’ I don’t really know, but it does seem to be a recurring theme.
I never start out with any kind of connecting theme or plan. Everything just falls the way it falls. I don’t ever think about what kind of fiction I write or what I am writing about or what I am trying to write about. When I’m writing, what I do is I think about a story that I want to tell.
The theme of sisters – of missing sisters, of needing sisters, the special love that sisters share or the antagonism sisters share – is something that is very close to me.
And our big theme has been, you have made so much progress, we urge you on with the openings and market openings that have occurred. They clearly work and continuing on that path will produce further growth and further opportunities for the Indian people.
I was looking to explore the theme of good and evil, so what better inspiration than the comics? I’d developed a relationship with DC and Warner Bros. when I donated a sculpture of Catwoman to the ‘We Can Be Heroes’ campaign a few years ago. That’s what started it.
The reason that Shaft has a dominant theme song is because James Bond has a dominant theme song.
It was by design that we mostly used pictures that you could not necessarily see what was going on, and that didn’t really focus in on the band, but instead focused in on a theme.
In one aspect, my works record the history of the development of Chinese society. Concern about the situation of Chinese reality is one important theme of my works. I am trying to ask, ‘How does our society develop? What are the problems in our society? Where is our direction leading?’
I like to remind the contestants where they are by playing the ‘Bake Off’ theme tune on my phone as they walk into the tent. They freak out, as it suddenly dawns on them that they’re on the show.
Family is hugely important to me, because like I said, it takes a village to raise a child. That’s my theme. That’s how I really feel about life.
Our central theme is, How good you can get? How hard can I go to see how good you can get?
And indeed this theme has been at the centre of all my research since 1943, both because of its intrinsic fascination and my conviction that a knowledge of sequences could contribute much to our understanding of living matter.
I think your teenage years define your musical roots forever. You’re always looking for a theme for your high school years.
For me, no matter what movie I make, no matter what the genre or the budget, they all have the same theme at their core: fear of death and happiness about living.
It’s about giving the people what they want. So many people have told me that they’ve made love to my records so what I’ve delivered this time is an album about sex. Pretty much every song has that theme. Straight no chasers, it’s booty music!
We all perform our lives in a way. And the actor is a perfect metaphor to get at that theme of ‘how do we find our authentic selves?’ And that we all – whether we’re actors or not – perform ourselves. As a way of searching. As a way of fumbling around and trying to say, is this my voice? Is this who I am?
You have independent films and independent music, but you don’t have independent theme parks – I think, in a way, Burning Man is as close, probably, as you get.
If a theme or idea is too near the surface, the novel becomes simply a tract illustrating an idea.
Parents fear for their children. Absolutely, I think it’s a deep and troubling theme to explore.
I think any writer keeps going back to some basic theme. Sometimes it’s autobiographical. I guess it usually is.
I was aware of that theme of mortality in my music since around 2009. The decaying and the disappearance of the piano sound is very much symbolic of life and mortality. It’s not sad. I just meditate about it.
Unity is Obama’s theme.
The place was crawling with youngsters. It was good, because the kids were good. I can’t make a general assumption. Again, you’re probably getting, as a general theme from me, that I don’t make a lot of broad, sweeping rules about movies.
