It’s perhaps easier to say what prog rock isn’t than what it is: it’s not three-minute pop songs, it’s not straightforward rock, metal, blues or jazz, but can have elements of all them and more. It’s a form that is on the boundaries of many different forms, that is open to all sorts of influences.

I don’t even think I was quite a year old. My mother was maybe seven months pregnant with my little brother. I was sucked out of her arms, and she landed 75 yards away from our trailer and had a ruptured disc. The tornado set me down on top of this pile of corrugated lumber and scrap metal.

The hairstyles of most Heavy Metal bands are pretty horrendous.

I’m a standup comedian who can’t drive. I have never learned. I don’t trust my hand-eye coordination. A gold book, fastened together in the shape of a book by wires of the same metal, had been dug up in the northern part of the state of New York, and along with the book an enormous pair of gold spectacles!
My main problem with Norwegian Black Metal is that almost all the bands from 1992-1993 are made up of rats, who ratted each other out and blamed me for everything that went wrong in the scene. I really don’t want to be associated with them in any way.
What was interesting about grunge was that it was this death sentence to the rock that had preceded it, which was hair metal.

I was a sheet metal worker, then a metal engineer, then a Pontin’s bluecoat, then a comedian. You can achieve anything you want if you put your mind to it.
Pantera revolutionized the sound and the approach to heavy metal. It’s been regurgitated. Once you up the production on a product and not just the playing but the actual production, then it’s going to up the ante.

Heavy metal these days is what I call wimpy.
I had some interesting costumes… the one that I remember right offhand is Zorro when I was a lot younger. I was a big time Zorro fan. My mom helped me make it, and I remember having a big issue with the fact that she wouldn’t let me carry around a real metal sword; it just had to be plastic.

In any case, his judgment and set of values, acting alone or through his assistants, determine not only what is gold and what is dross but the design of the history which he creates out of the metal. The historian decides what is significant, and what is not.

I listen to a lot of Pink Floyd, the Doors, Elton John, Sabbath, Metallica, GN’R, Megadeth – just classic rock, classic metal stuff.
I don’t like the way the cage is set up. I think it’s really dangerous that the metal comes up about three inches off the ground. People were putting their foot on it. I can see it. And I was worried about being taken down and landing backwards with my elbow. and damaging my elbow or even my head.
![My own interest in basic aspects of electron transfer b](/wp-content/uploads/30431-great-sayings.com.jpg)

Anytime rock and metal can get on mainstream TV at all, it’s a good thing.
I had old bunk beds that my dad got from Seabrook Farms. They were first used by German prisoners during World War II, who were sent to work the farms during the war. The metal beds with their thin mattresses could easily be used as a jungle gym and I loved them.

You can really have a no-holds-barred relationship to materials with mixed metals and colorful schemes or more controlled palettes that are more tonal or restricted to a single accent color or metal finish. There are really no rules, and that is what makes contemporary design so limitless and enjoyable.
I’ve been picked up by Big Cass and thrown down the ramp onto metal. Have you ever seen that before in this business? No, no, that’s a mighty big fall from the top of the ramp, straight down to the bottom onto concrete. He picked me up over his head and thrown me 14 feet to the ground.
I like hard rock, and classic rock, and even metal.
When it actually came to everyone clamoring to see the medal and talking about the experience, I began to feel empty inside. I started to feel that this piece of metal was worth more than I was as a person, and I think this began a spiral for me.
I truly believe heavy metal has gone south. Too many people are focusing on, will the songs be on the radio, will the shirt be in Hot Topic?
If you get into Scientology, you will go to auditing. It’s like therapy except that there is an E-meter between you and your auditor. A lot of power-pop comes out of LA, a lot of speed metal comes out of New York.

Even when metal was on the radio, it was always the watered down stuff. There were only a couple real metal bands – Metallica is one – that broke through.
It’s a myth that I received any flak from the metal community over my decision to come out. I have, in fact, received numerous positive responses from fans, as well as e-mails from people who were going through much the same thing. It’s horrible to keep something like that secret, and I felt I had to make it public.
I’m very excited that my yelling will be featured on the next Evile disc; they’re one of my favorite new-ish bands and, in my not-so-humble opinion, the British saviors of thrash metal.

People can talk about punk all they want, but after new wave put that down, metal is the voice of the disenfranchised and that need to become unhinged. That’s why it appeals to so many people when they are younger and carries over when those people, at 40, don’t want to grow up.
There is nothing more, I guess, cannibalistic than the metal or the hard rock scene, it seems.
Hard rock for me is AC/DC, Def Leppard, Tesla, Kiss. Metal tends to be louder, ruder, darker, like Judas Priest, Slayer, Iron Maiden.
![My parents were always playing records: My mom was real](/wp-content/uploads/30432-great-sayings.com.jpg)
My parents were always playing records: My mom was really into the Beatles and Fleetwood Mac, and my dad was more Billy Squire, Whitesnake, ’80s hair metal. But I think there’s that crucial point where you become an adolescent and you don’t want to listen to your parents’ music.
If you are a soul singer, you are a soul singer. If you are a heavy metal singer, then you are a heavy metal singer. What’s color got to do with it? I don’t go around thinking, ‘I sing soul music and I’m white.’ I just sing the way I feel.
In high school, I decided that all of my female friends were stupid and traded them for guy friends. I loved horror movies and heavy metal and used these interests to become a ‘guys’ girl.’

I finished my university studies with classical music while being in a successful metal band, but that was not an easy task at all.
I am no friend of the modern so-called ‘black metal’ culture. It is a tasteless, lowbrow parody of Norwegian black metal circa 1991-92, and if it was up to me, it would meet its dishonorable end as soon as possible.
I was into ‘Crash Bandicoot.’ ‘Croc.’ I loved ‘Twisted Metal.’ And as far as the WWE and wrestling games? All of them. I played ‘SmackDown! Just Bring It’ and ‘Smackdown vs. Raw.’
Give metal a chance!
I’m primarily thought of as a rocker, and certainly ‘Frankenstein’ had a very dramatic power rock image. It was almost a precursor of heavy metal and fusion. But I also love jazz and classical and if there’s one common thread that runs through all my music, it is blues.
It’s a very empowering kind of music, heavy metal is.
I wanna write a classic metal record, a classic rock record, in 2013.

I mean there’s certainly a lot of progressive rock and metal that exists at the underground level, which has its own vitality, as it should. But it seems to have lost its ability to really charge up the hill.
I used to do this big rant at the end of some gigs with Ben Folds Five. The band broke into this big heavy metal thing and I started as a joke to scream in a heavy metal falsetto. I found myself saying things like: Feel my pain, I am white, feel my pain.
Heavy metal to me implies a relentless, pounding, hitting-people-over-the-head music. Trend setters tend to dismiss it as basic and simple, but all the time that little trends keep coming and going, the Bob Segers, Bruce Springsteens and the Billy Squiers keep staying.
‘The Shining’ has always been my favorite horror movie. It is scary and incredibly psychological without relying on blood and gore. Jack Nicholson’s performance is absolutely mind-blowing. And the mood and the feel is definitely metal.

The guitar influence that affected my songwriting came from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
I was always stealing 40-gallon drums off the road at night, bringing them back to the workshop and cutting them up with a gas axe because I loved to weld. I would make creatures out of these old metal drums.
Metallica is a very complicated, fragile thing. On the outside, it’s all metal, but on the inside it’s very delicate.
I don’t think there’s any music that you hear on the radio today that would be possible without Jimi Hendrix. Rock, blues-rock, heavy metal, any guitar stuff when you get right down to it – Jimi did it. He’s certainly the guy who basically invented the blues-rock genre for guitar players.
I’ve had the privilege of meeting and/or interviewing most of the top metal and hard rock artists at various points in my career and sharing their stories and music with millions of fans on air through TV and radio.
My earliest memories are going into prisons. Going through metal detectors, getting searched by guards.
I left school when I was 16; then I worked for my father, who was a welder. And I was a welder for three years, you know, welder of fabrication, metal ’cause it was a big industrial town, Sheffield. It was much steel and coal and stuff like that.
Metal has always been somewhat marginalized, and I love to prove the perception and stereotypes that go with it wrong.
What I do know is rock and roll and metal never goes away, ever. It took the back seat in America in the ’90s. In Japan and South America, it was still really big. I never followed trends, so I don’t know the exact function of them.
I’ve often talked about metal being the underdog in rock n’ roll music.
In all of my years in this business, I’ve always been part of either a progressive band or a metal band.
Obviously, our children, who have been playing with their computers since the age of five or six, don’t have quite the same brain as those who were brought up on wooden or metal toys, whose brains are certainly atrophied by comparison.
From time to time, I’ve experimented with sculpture or metal design. It’s a good break from just sitting behind the keyboard.
We did some shows – Soulfly played for the Marines twice and it was great meeting those guys. A lot of them are heavy metal fans and go to war areas like Iraq and Afghanistan and listen to their metal. I’m glad that my music has somehow helped them get through that at least a little bit.
I meet these rock guys, these metal guys, and we are very real.
The last time I really got into new music that wasn’t heavy metal was probably like… TV on the Radio? I think that was it. That’s the last time.
We grew up with every type of band from Primus to Mr. Bungle to Elton John to pop music to metal, and we try to throw it all in a blender. And whatever comes out of that is more Avenged Sevenfold than metal or metalcore.
My mother ‘gave teas’ the way other mothers breathed. Her own mother ‘gave teas.’ All of their friends ‘gave teas,’ each involving butter cookies extruded from a metal press and pastel bonbons ordered from See’s.
I remember the first time I held a rifle – the metal was so cold, and it’s so heavy. I also didn’t know the amount of pressure I had to use. My first finger went numb for a week.
I have metal in my body, so every time I go to an airport, the metal detector goes off.
We were lumped into the Lite Metal radio bands.
If I was to play any song for anybody asking, ‘What is metal about?’ I’d just play ‘Master of Puppets.’ The progressions and the bridge are brilliant.
The style of music that we’re playing, this progressive metal style, has always been an upstream battle for us. We don’t usually get a lot of commercial exposure.
If you looked at my iPod, you would get a trip out of all the different music, from the real heavy metal to bluegrass to classical.
I go online, and I love watching heavy metal bands and guitar players play heavy metal versions of the ‘Zelda’ theme, and people do all the ‘Zelda’ music, which is one of my favorite soundtracks.
![I come from a family of scrap metal dealers, so becomin](/wp-content/uploads/30434-great-sayings.com.jpg)
I come from a family of scrap metal dealers, so becoming an actor seemed like a ridiculous thing to do, but I’d found the thing that gave me a kick, and I quickly became obsessed with it.
I write almost all my songs on an acoustic guitar, even if they turn into rock songs, hard rock songs, metal songs, heavy metal songs, really heavy songs… I love writing on an acoustic because I can hear what every string is doing; the vibrations haven’t been combined in a collision of distortion or effects yet.
Apart from its dangers, much of Iraq isn’t very interesting to look at. The landscape is flat and dun colored. The dirt just beyond the highway is littered with hunks of twisted and mangled metal, some of it the detritus of wars, some of it just unclaimed junk. The countryside looks muddy and broken.
Metal isn’t necessarily aggressive. There’s metal that’s contemplative, there’s metal that’s sad, and there’s metal that’s exuberant. No genre is limited in what it can express.
There’s everybody in the world who is always trying, time and time again, to proclaim the death of rock, or hard rock and heavy metal. Not if I have anything to do with it, not if we have anything to do with it.
I go to metal concerts as well as classical concerts, and I love both of them.
Unfortunately, I think metal bands don’t have too much to say in their lyrics, and never care about it. We just decided not to be like that.
I’m a family guy who grew up with metal, and even though I’m domesticated I still have this in me.
We are aiming to create a one and only new music genre that exceeds the limits of pop and metal music.
‘Waking the Fallen’ truly encompasses everything that Avenged Sevenfold was at that time. It was us being fearless, us showing our roots in heavy metal, punk, rock n’ roll, and not being afraid to try everything under the sun when it comes to writing music.
All that stuff about heavy metal and hard rock, I don’t subscribe to any of that. It’s all just music. I mean, the heavy metal from the Seventies sounds nothing like the stuff from the Eighties, and that sounds nothing like the stuff from the Nineties. Who’s to say what is and isn’t a certain type of music?
I had the idea to spend the year off in 2008 and start writing a rock album. I wanted to do something else other than melodic metal after more than ten years of After Forever. I thought it would be nice to sidestep into rock.
Most ceramic plates, bowls, and cups have an unglazed rim around the very bottom, where the piece was in contact with the floor of the kiln. This unglazed ceramic is harder than metal and can be used just like a sharpening stone.
I always wanted to merge heavy metal with pop music, but I think that because I grew up more with pop, the Beatles and the Stones, I tended to affiliate myself with those projects.
The same sensations that you get in heavy metal are in horror movies. Heavy metal sounds evil and horror movies are evil, ha ha!
I’m not brassed off, it’s just it’s the association of the Dalek question, this mechanical mobile object, I’m beginning to find it distracting. And they were difficult to play to, because you’re not looking into human eyes. You’re looking at a metal object, moving about, with a voiceover.
When I was a kid, I really wanted a metal detector for Christmas, convinced I was going to find buried treasure and could retire at 12. Santa Claus brought me one, but sadly, that treasure was never realized. It’s amazing how many bottle caps you have to dig up. But to be honest, that dream is still alive.
A Republican philosophy goes something like this: If you take your car to the mechanic, and instead of fixing it, they take out the engine and charge you an arm and a leg, you should conclude that mechanics can’t fix cars and you should probably just take yours to the junkyard and sell it for scrap metal.
I never thought in my whole life of becoming a heavy metal singer, but it just happened because I took the challenge.
Some bands sound like one song the whole album through. We’ve been all over the place because we are punk, hardcore, rock n’ roll, metal, reggae – and I think sometimes it might be too much diversity, and kids are lost.
When I’m working, on sets or stages, my contracts specify in the rider that no plastic bottles be used. When I’m playing with my band, we all use metal and non-plastic containers for drinking to be ecologically sensitive and show others that this is the way to go.
Pop music, disco music, and heavy metal music is about shutting out the tensions of life, putting it away.
I’m really not the biggest metal fan as it is. I’m more of a hard-street-punk kind of kid, but I also loved hip hop and reggae music, so we have always sort of refused a street style that is something that we are used to. Something that makes us comfortable and sounds good to us.
If Bill jumps into something that relies on a lot of cymbals, I’ll jump into something that relies on a lot of skin sounds; if he goes into metal tones, I’ll go into wood, and so on. I basically play in his holes.
There is a lot of talk now about metal detectors and gun control. Both are good things. But they are no more a solution than forks and spoons are a solution to world hunger.
For me, shaping and sharpening knives is the perfect mix of a day of metal and woodwork, and seriously scratches my lifelong itch to make something with my own two hands – be it squid-and-veggie ramen or the fiberglass finish on a surfboard.
I like metal detecting, collecting Civil War artifacts, fishing, hunting, cigars, Labradors, the outdoor life, my baseball game, football.
The way people receive our music is different and some people may say that our music is not metal. But I feel that those reviews allow us to challenge ourselves and gives us an opportunity to grow even more.
While we don’t always ‘get’ metal, we’re doing our very best.
Anything that anybody wants to give me is great! I’ve had folk songs, heavy metal songs, jewellery… I would never call anything any fan gives me weird, as it’s how people express what they like about the books, what it means to them, and that’s a wonderful thing.
I think EDM and metal and rock have been together already for a long time. Bands like Nine Inch Nails, Linkin Park, the Prodigy – they all have influences from both.
![When you think of rock and roll and metal, a lot of it](/wp-content/uploads/30435-great-sayings.com.jpg)
When you think of rock and roll and metal, a lot of it is based around the riff. If you can sing over the riff and what the arrangements are going to be like, you have to leave space for what most people consider one of the most key essential parts, which is the vocalist.
I guess that I’m primarily thought of as a rocker, largely because of ‘Frankenstein’ being such a heavy song – you know, it was really hard rock, almost a precursor of heavy metal and just the image of the synthesizer. I happened to be the first guy to get the idea of putting a strap on the keyboard.
That’s where I learned, basically, all my skills from the drumming that I do – most of my style comes straight from death metal.
I enjoy listening to classical music and heavy metal. I play basketball and try to go diving at least once a year. I don’t really have hobbies in the traditional sense… I engage in too many activities already through the actions of my characters.
My mom always encouraged me, it was never weird. She’d look at ‘Heavy Metal’ and go ‘Woo-hoo!’
My mum wasn’t the sort of person who would ordinarily listen to heavy metal. But she thinks Babymetal’s songs are cool. She’s a big fan.
I grew up an ’80s metal guy.
I definitely talk about my love of metal to audiences, and I sort of realized it was always natural and never, ‘Well, I’m going to be the heavy-metal comedian.’
I enjoy everything. I actually do listen to everything. In high school, I listened to a lot of metal and punk rock.
To do an extreme metal record is something that is well within my capacity as a musician to write stuff out of the box, write stuff that’s probably more extreme than the band I’m in at the present time, and it’s something that needs to come out of me one way or another.
However you feel about Dimebag, this is one of the most influential metal guitar players of the ’90s. I was just talking to someone that I am hiring to bring on the tour who said that, when he was at the funeral, that Eddie Van Halen came and put his striped guitar in the coffin. That’s a pretty big deal.
I feel like the rap metal at the end of the 1990s destroyed rock music for everybody and suddenly everybody felt like they had to apologise for being in rock bands. People suddenly felt bad about wanting to reach massive audiences and the sense of theatre, that we have in our live show, became something to avoid.
I hope everyone can appreciate the wonderful aspects of metal music.
Bands like Metallica never sat around and said, ‘We’re speed metal,’ or ‘We’re thrash metal.’ If it feels good at the end of the day, to me, that’s metal.
The hardest thing for me is walking. Can you imagine you’ve got a metal pole and if you put pressure on it like a strong walk, you can walk.
I wore a ‘Black Metal’ Venom T-shirt once, in January 1993, to promote black metal, and I regret having done that ever since.
One of the reasons I love devils so much is not based in my faith, but because as a kid, I grew up loving heavy metal and horror movies, and the devil is such a huge presence in both.
My passions are stand-up comedy, hard rock and metal, and baseball and the Mets.
I am sure there are some people who say that we are not metal, but we want to create a new genre that will appeal to people of all ages, both boys and girls.
I have this weird allergy where metal can’t touch my skin.
I’ve always said if you’re comparing movies to music, then horror would be the black metal of the categories.
I did not know what metal was, so I never headbanged before… I used to have muscle pain that lasted three days… but now I am used to it and I have more stamina now.
‘Wages Of Sin’ was the first metal album I ever bought, and it was love at first listen.
The first ‘Charlemagne’ album is metal, of course, but what I sang was more symphonic.
If we’re compared to Metallica, the greatest metal band in the world, I think that’s actually a pretty damn good compliment.
I went to a Catholic School, and underneath my school uniform, I wore a metal shirt.
Music is never-ending, that’s what I love about it. Even after we’re dead, this music will still exist… that’s the best bit. That’s metal.
When we started, I was just having fun with it I didn’t even know about doing it for a living. It was a new style of music, a combo of punk and metal.
I would never slam my iPhone, and I never punched a metal door frame for any time.
I know I am more on the sexual side in terms of my appearance, which is something that the metal world is not used to. But I am comfortable with it. It’s how I express my art, and myself.
The one thing that’s changed for ‘That Metal Show’ is that it’s now global; it’s now on in places outside of America.
![Metal fans are the most hard-core, loyal fans.](/wp-content/uploads/30436-great-sayings.com.jpg)
Metal fans are the most hard-core, loyal fans.
When I was teaching I’d go to some schools where no one wanted to dance – when they came into the room it was as though they were being punished. But I’d put on the loudest, the heaviest metal you could imagine and they loved it.
Space is tight inside a tank: very close confines, and you’re permanently banging. Like in Brad Pitt’s new movie ‘Fury’ – the clanking of metal is all you hear.
The power of music, and the power of your determination in life, especially when you’re playing extreme metal like this… it just conquers. It conquers everything.
My mother kept all my awards on the sideboard of her front room, and she polished them. She polished everything religiously. And it doesn’t take long for the very thin layer of gold to disappear and the base metal underneath to show through.
The Pandoras began as a ’60s punk group. Then they went pop, then metal. When they went metal, I quit because I hate heavy metal music and I wanted to write my own songs.
PG-13′ is kind of a scattered, almost movie soundtrack album, with elements of punk and metal and electronica.
We go out there every night, and we fight the battle. We don’t care about people who don’t think we’re true metal. We hope to change their minds. I have total faith.
With ‘Hail To The King’ – our last album – we obviously wore our influences on our sleeve, and it was a blatant attempt to turn on our younger generation of fans to more classic-sounding metal.
Metal music is a very fan-oriented, fan-protected music – very sacred.
I don’t know what genre you would put us into, and I’m always telling people that. When I’m trying to explain In This Moment’s sound to them, all I can say is that its diverse-sounding, with influences such as metalcore’s breakdowns, metal in general and some melodic rock.
I was in a rock band; I was my own folk singer; I was in a death metal band for a very short time; I was in a cover band, a jazz band, a blues band. I was in a gospel choir.
When people say, ‘Your music was the music of the Seventies,’ I say, ‘So was discoteque.’ The Seventies was also the highest peak of heavy metal. Pick a genre – they were all alive.
I always dreamt of being in ‘Kerrang.’ That was my ambition. I read that religiously when I was into heavy metal. Then the jazz magazines took over.
All that stuff about heavy metal and hard rock, I don’t subscribe to any of that. It’s all just music. I mean, the heavy metal from the ’70s sounds nothing like the stuff from the ’80s, and that sounds nothing like the stuff from the ’90s. Who’s to say what is and isn’t a certain type of music?
I think that metal has always been, in my opinion, the most passionate form of music, and it only makes sense to actually be passionate about what you’re saying when you’re delivering music to people, whether it’s through an album or for a live show.
Why not a space flower? Why do we always expect metal ships?
Kerrang asked us to do a heavy metal tribute to one of our favorite heavy metal bands. We had already been jamming out on ‘Walk,’ so we’re like, ‘OK. We’ll record it for you guys.’
Metal fans are just as compassionate and caring and tolerant as any other form of music fans are.
There’s a lot of modern stuff I really dig, like Melechesh or Italian death metal like Hour Of Penance and Bloodtruth.
We would like to continue to spread metal to everyone.
I remember being inspired by this band Godflesh, actually. They were a really heavy metal band, really nihilistic.
In the metal world, if you’re using a wireless mic… I was so scared to do that. I’m, like, ‘They’re gonna boo me in the beginning.’
My biggest failure is ‘Metal Gear.’ It’s my biggest failure and my biggest success.
Volbeat is one of those bands, where as soon as I hear them, I know who it is. It sounds like Elvis – backed by a Metal band.
I was a fan of heavy music – first metal, then punk, then hip hop.
Achievements are precious and timeless, just like the precious metal platinum. And what better way to celebrate milestones in your life than with precious platinum.
We’ve played all sorts of weird and wonderful places. You do all kinds of venues from heavy metal places in Germany to big ornate churches, and everything in between.
And I realized, when I’d come in to the meetings with these corrugated metal and chain link stuff, and people would just look at me like I’d just landed from Mars. But I couldn’t do anything else. That was my response to the people and the time.
During our first year, we were playing Priest and Maiden cover tunes all the time while we figured out what we wanted to do as a band. At the time I was getting out of metal and into punk. That’s how Slayer’s sound came together – it’s the speed of punk combined with the big riffs of metal.
You can get some spiked up greens even with no metal spikes, it just depends.
![We're teaming up with a major Hollywood studio, and we'](/wp-content/uploads/30437-great-sayings.com.jpg)
We’re teaming up with a major Hollywood studio, and we’re making a movie called ‘Copper.’ It’s set on Mars in the 24th century. By then we’ve got 27 billion people in the world, copper is the world’s most valuable metal because everything runs on electricity, and there’s no more burning of hydrocarbons.
Never use an aluminum pot, pan, or utensil when cooking tomatoes – or any other soft metal items for that matter. The acidity in the tomato doesn’t do well with them; they create a chemical reaction that can turn cooked tomatoes bitter and fade the color, and the food will absorb some of the aluminum!
There seems to sometimes be an entire genre called ‘female-fronted metal.’
I still think the best metal bands have a blues feel. The first Black Sabbath album is kind of a bludgeoning of blues. Deep Purple also started out as a blues band.
I think every physiotherapist will tell you that it’s not a very good idea, and there are many musicians in the metal scene who have suffered severe damage – like, the guitar player from Iced Earth, Jon Schaffer, had severe neck problems due to headbanging.
Some of the smartest people I know are metal fans.
I think metal fans are more loyal than other fans, and they are often more inclined to collect the albums of their favorite bands.
I agree that it’s absurd to call a category of music ‘female-fronted metal,’ because if you look at Otep or Epica or Arch Enemy, we don’t sound anything alike.
A well-seasoned and properly cleaned wok will always have micro-pores in the metal that hold some oil or food particulate, etc. – that’s a good thing.
I listen to jazz, Western classical, contemporary, Bollywood and heavy metal.
‘Metal Gear Solid’ is, for the most part, an infiltration game. You go somewhere, you execute your mission, then you go back. Those are your actions as the player.
Metal, I love metal sounds. If I have a stick with me, I just drag it across a fence. And all fences make different sounds, just like people when they laugh.
On their debut, Korn brought a new definition of metal that was a game changer.
I really felt like we were gonna be The Rolling Stones of heavy metal, and we could have been.
I really love ‘Killchain’ – it’s got this groove, it’s the groove I always talk about in death metal and black metal, people try to discredit it but you cannot deny it.
We had an extreme reaction to Storm Corrosion. We were proud of it, but it divided the audience. The metal fans were divided. Some went with it. Some hated it, since it wasn’t the progressive metal supergroup they were waiting for.
I’m living proof that whatever happens to you in life, you can turn base metal into gold.
Every day is a good day above ground, and especially being able to play metal and being able to your craft and everything. You’ve gotta respect that, because it’s something that can be taken away from you really quick.
I just happened to wind up in a metal band when I was 15.
The power, the complexity, the aggression – there’s so many things that would attract anyone to Metallica. I think that they are the prime example of a metal band.
We didn’t say, ‘Hey, we’re gonna pick a bunch of cover songs,’ or, ‘We’re gonna write an original song that has to sound like this, because we’re a metal band, so we’re gonna cover some metal songs.’ We did the opposite. We just said, ‘We’re gonna have fun with these songs, and we’re gonna try different things.’
We’re definitely a metal band. We push a lot of boundaries. But at the core we’re a metal band.
A collaboration with Rob Halford, the ‘Metal God,’ has always been my dream. I never imagined that dream would come true!
When you have three teenage girls, and you’re married 21 years, and have a mother who’s blind in one eye and has dementia who lives with you, and your dad has worse dementia, and you’re into metal, and your wife is born again, you’re never running out of material.
CGI has fully ruined car crashes. Because how can you be impressed with them now? When you watch them in the ’70s, it was real cars, real metal, real blasts. They’re really doing it and risking their lives. But I knew CGI was gonna start taking over.
I just like heavy music in general – from heavy rock and heavy metal and heavy rap and heavy everything. I’ve always been attracted to it.
I’m that girl that’s a hardcore musician and loves to sing and write and play instruments but, at the same time, loves video games, metal music, and just being a goofy person.
We believe that many people who already like metal and those who like other genres will be accepting to this new type of metal.
As a female in metal, I’m going to get ostracized one way or another. So, if I’m going to have people hating me because I’m a female in metal, I might as well get people loving me because I’m a female in metal, too.
I’ve said the Grammys messed up metal because it’s not on TV. What I’m saying is when you’re in a metal category, it’s not televised, and it doesn’t move the needle forward for metal artists, and I wish they had more respect for the genre.
We are aiming to create a new genre with a new style in terms of visuals and sound. A mixture of dance and metal which strays away from the traditional or conventional metal band.
![On a regular basis, to appease White House or campaign](/wp-content/uploads/30438-great-sayings.com.jpg)
On a regular basis, to appease White House or campaign staffs, Secret Service officials order agents to ignore basic security rules and let people into events without being put through a magnetometer or metal detector.
If heavy metal bands ruled the world, we’d be a lot better off.
I’ve been requested by hundreds of metal bands to be part of their albums or side projects.
The first day at the power plant I found myself photographing some steam vents on the roof of the structure. And I remember consciously thinking that they were just like trees but they were metal.
People like Art Blakey and Buddy Rich, you look at them playing music, and it’s just like looking at a heavy metal drummer. I mean, they’re playing with the same amount of ferocity. It’s not to say all jazz is like that.
Me being the metal fan that I am, I like to listen to thrash metal to get me pumped – that kind of music will get your heart racing and ready for a crowd.
The most metal? Some would say Slayer, but I think they’re a dreadful band. Unbelievably boring. Terrible. Apparently it’s not metal to say that, but it’s a personal opinion.
I hope our fans are able to experience that they are also on an odyssey to the ‘Metal Galaxy’ with us. We’ve incorporated different types of music into this album and we hope that fans are able to feel our determination to a new departure.
An iron lung looks like an enormous metal coffin or a 19th-century rocket ship: only its occupant’s head is left outside, a tight seal around the neck.
When I was a very young kid, the first music that really turned me on was a new wave of British heavy metal – big, dumb rock music. There was a band called Diamond Head – they were basically the band that inspired Metallica. But I also liked bands like Saxon and Iron Maiden.
I think that the fact of the matter is that metal isn’t really part of the big picture of the gay, lesbian, transgender music scene. But it’s certainly there. There’s gay metalheads all over the world.
If you write a letter of resignation or something with an agenda, you’re simply using a pen to record what you have thought out. In a poem, the pen is more like a flashlight, a Geiger counter, or one of those metal detectors that people walk around beaches with.
We grew up on hip-hop, metal, and hard core, which… reflect a certain amount of the chaos and confusion that are part of daily life.
I was very limited in what I could do with flying saucers, because they’re just a metal disc. I had to try and put character in as if they were intelligently guided.
