It’s hard because there’s a part of me that wants ‘True Detective’ to win every award we’re nominated for. But I’m a huge fan of ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Game of Thrones.’
I am also the product of a place called Paint Creek. Doesn’t have a zip code. It’s too small to be called a town along the rolling plains of Texas. We grew dryland cotton and wheat, and when I wasn’t farming or attending Paint Creek Rural School, I was generally over at Troop 48 working on my Eagle Scout award.
The MVP award was very satisfying in terms of personal accomplishments, but the championship was the most important thing of all.
While I was in college, I was intrigued by modelling and also won the best model award in my college.
It is true I’d rather get a hole in one than win an Academy Award.
There are some parts of my life that are wonderful, and it’s amazing to get to go to cool events and award shows and things like that, but I think the outside perception is that your life just changes overnight and you wear Dolce and Gabanna suits and drive a Mercedes. But life’s just not like that.
I can’t say I want to earn a particular award or sell a certain number of records, because even if I do that, the satisfaction only lasts five minutes.
I’m proud of doing ‘Long Day’s Journey into Night,’ for which I won an ACE award.
I liked getting the best villain award. I thought that was funny.
The awards world can be ridiculous, but I’m not one to bash it. I love awards! When I’ve been nominated for Emmys and when I won my DGA Award, I couldn’t have been happier. I always liked getting a gold star in class.
I work for the director, and if audience are happy, I have gotten my award. After that, I have to move on.
The Heisman is often a career award. Chris Weinke, Michael Vick, Eric Crouch and Drew Brees have all had a more than one great year.
My first tweet was at the CMT Awards when I won an award and typed, ‘Thank you.’ Then I was hooked because the followers started multiplying. It’s a great tool.
If we win the Champions League, everyone is a better, more recognised player, but if you win an individual award and nothing with your team, it means nothing.
Making the best-seller list is a big deal; it’s like being nominated for an Oscar. Hitting No. 1 is like actually winning the award. It’s very gratifying.
At The Body Shop we had always been measured by how many jobs we had created, and I got a major award from the Queen on that.
But I don’t pretend I earned a Lifetime Achievement Award.
We want box office success, critical acclaim, awards and everything else. But I think when the audience likes a film, that appreciation is far more fulfilling, far more satisfying than any award.
My first paying gig was a play called ‘The Voice of the Prairie’ at a theater that no longer exists in Chicago called Wisdom Bridge. I played a fast-talking radio huckster – a salesman of crystal sets in the 1920s – and I actually won an award. Look at that! And then promptly didn’t get hired for a year.
You become a great composer when you win a Pulitzer. But I think that now it’s a completely meaningless award.
In the ’80s, before I was born, my dad played in the old Soviet Top League in our home country of Armenia. He was a small but very quick striker. ‘Soviet Soldier’ magazine actually honoured him with its ‘Knight of Attack’ award in 1984.
I’d rather win a pennant than an Academy Award.
I’m not trying to win an award for being the best vegetarian, just want to be healthy. Take a salt bath. Do things that my parents were never able to do. I’m blessed to do anything I want, so I decide to take the best care of my body and my family in the same way. Holistically. Vitally.
I was surprised I was nominated for an Oscar because ‘Cocoon’ was such an ensemble picture. But now I’m certain it wasn’t only for ‘Cocoon.’ It was a lifetime award, so I accepted it in that vein, and it probably meant more from a recognition standpoint.
Established in 2001, the Medal of Valor is our nation’s highest public safety award. Officers across the nation are nominated by their peers, but only a handful are selected to receive this honor. Traditionally, this process occurs only once a year.
How did the Oscar change my life? What it did was that it gave me a new reality. And it let me know that an award wasn’t going to change my life – that I had to be in control of changing my life.
When I started my blog, it was really this one goal – I said, ‘I am not going to be famous to the world, but I could be famous to people on the Internet.’ And I set a goal. I said, ‘I’m going to win an award,’ because I had never won an award in my entire life.
Our outrage at inequality is primal. But primal emotions are not always noble ones. Of course, when I see a colleague receive some award, I covet it. But this is not me at my best, and these are not the feelings we would instill and promote in our children.
How important is failure – yes, failure – to the health of a thriving, innovative business? So important that Ratan Tata, chairman of India’s largest corporation, gives an annual award to the employee who comes up with the best idea that failed.
When I receive an award it gives me more encouragement, hope and drive to go forward with my voice to sing better and better.
Winning is a different thing, but even being nominated for an award like Filmfare is an honour.
My Number 1 Award is going to go on my mantelpiece, and I’ll probably kiss it for two weeks solid every time I pass it!
If, say, a striker knows that scoring 30 goals in a season will lead to them winning a prestigious award then they will try that little bit harder because, regardless of what players may say, individual recognition on the world stage is important.
I got my name, fame, identity and even my National award from Bengali cinema.
I can’t describe the feeling I got the first time I won a jury award for an injured person.
The Medal of Valor is this nation’s highest and most prestigious award for public safety officers.
Wearing a tuxedo isn’t as simple as it sounds. I’ve been to a lot of award shows in Hollywood over the years and have seen some pretty sad tuxes. It’s surprisingly easy to go off the rails.
It’s an amazing achievement to win a National Business Award and it recognises all of the hard work and determination of the team of people that have made Crafter’s Companion the success that it is today.
The reality is that we have all these awards and all these festivals that give out awards, so you sort of go, ‘okay, well, people liked the film, and I think it’s a good film, and it’s up for an award – well, I guess it should win the award then.’
I have been nominated five times for the Filmfare Award but for some unknown reasons I failed to win the award even once.
I am delighted to have had students, friends and colleagues in so many nations and to have learned so much of what I know from them. This Nobel Award honours them all.
I’ve won some awards. ‘Time’ magazine designated me as one of the environmental heroes of the 20th century. Oh, and I’ve got some honorary citizenships, like from the Conch Republic of the Florida Keys. But the one thing I am proud of is I didn’t get the Chevron environmental award. Never did get that one.
When I was a kid, award shows were super-interesting for me. But when I started making music, it was kind of hard to watch because I believed in what I was doing and yet knew I didn’t really have a shot.
It makes you vulnerable to win an award. It’s nice to get the attention, but your neck is stuck out.
As a songwriter, there’s nothing better than winning Song Of The Year. But I couldn’t really celebrate, because it wasn’t right. Luther wasn’t standing next to me, to receive the award.
In college I received the Best Actor award for four consecutive years under Calicut University.
What it meant for me to win the Emmy is I found it. It’s not just the award. It’s what it’s going to mean to young girls – young brown girls, especially. When they saw a physical manifestation of a dream, I felt like I had fulfilled a purpose.
People who are successful should never forget that it’s 90 per cent luck. You’ve got to be an eejit to be an egomaniac. I had my glory years – ‘Blankety Blank,’ the talk show, when I was winning every award going.
I think the thing’s that perhaps sad really is that younger people haven’t come in and I think it must have been absolutely fantastic to have worked in the 50’s when you had all of the great Broadway composers and when West Side Story didn’t win the Tony Award.
I go to award ceremonies, but I always like to be in my world. That’s the only place I can control where I won’t get upset.
After winning the National Award for Perariyathavar, I started getting a lot of good roles such as the one in ‘Action Hero Biju.’
I tend to avoid things like award shows and panels and interviews, not remotely because I feel I’m above them or wish to cultivate the image of the intriguing recluse. I’m just not very good at them.
