We are a religious people whose institutions presuppose a Supreme Being.
Religion is supposed to be a positive thing when you look at the true religions around the world, not the fundamentalists. You always have to go with what your spirit tells you, not what people advise you. I’m a man that will always follow my own path.
I hate organized religion. I think you have to love thy neighbor as thyself. I think you have to pick your own God and be true to him. I always say ‘him’ rather than ‘her.’ Maybe it’s because of my generation, but I don’t like the idea of a female God. I see God as a benevolent male.
I’m not sure that Liberation Theology has ever satisfactorily resolved the tensions between Marxism’s ‘social naturalism’ (the claim that all beliefs have their origins in social practice) and religion’s supernaturalism (the claims that its beliefs are underwritten by divine will).
My life was changed in one breath from God.
There should be no discrimination against languages people speak, skin color, or religion.

The conflict between religion and science is inherent and (very nearly) zero-sum. The success of science often comes at the expense of religious dogma; the maintenance of religious dogma always comes at the expense of science.
Religion as a whole specializes in sin management. It’s all about organizing humanity in such a way that we cause as little damage as possible.
To me, religion is an agreement between a group of people about what God is. Spirituality is a one-on-one relationship.

Superstition is the religion of feeble minds.
For me, what’s the old expression, ‘Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable,’ that’s really what religion is good at when it is done right. And the truth is, so is television.

I select a very small number of things to be sceptical about, such as markets, and on these I am hypersceptic. But I want to be fooled by randomness in art. I want the ceremonial of religion; we are made for it.

Whether you call it Buddhism or another religion, self-discipline, that’s important. Self-discipline with awareness of consequences.
Religion is absolutely unfathomable. Always and everywhere one can dig more deeply into infinities.

I’m married to the street; I ain’t gonna switch over. I ain’t gonna go religion on nobody. I believe in God – God is for the thugs too – but the streets are in the most trouble. So I’mma keep it focused on the streets and the struggle. That’s what I’m mainly about.
