You don’t ever want to be a mechanical basketball player, but as far as technique and things, I like to have certain check points in my shot, certain things that I can count on and think about. It kind of helps me to be consistent.
I can count on one hand the people who are legendary in my book, and Tom Waits is certainly right at the top. It’s funny, though: When I tell people that I like Tom’s music, it surprises them.
Death showed up in my life very early on, so I’m aware of it. If you look at most of the things I write there’s a sort of contemplation of mortality – although ‘True Blood’ doesn’t fall into that. Even though there’s such a ridiculously high body count!
That’s the thing about business. Facts and numbers and results actually count. It’s not just about words as it is in politics.
