You know, it’s a very sexist society, Indonesia.
One of the unique features of China is that, notwithstanding the fact that it has a population of 1.3 billion, around 92% regard themselves as Han Chinese. This is quite different from the world’s other most populous countries, such as India, the U.S. and Indonesia, which are ethnically diverse.
Before I started Coffee of Grace, I assumed all coffee came from Latin America or Indonesia. I wasn’t familiar with African coffee.
Indonesia is hardly immune to catastrophic breakdowns, as the anti-Communist pogrom showed. But, like India, it has been relatively fortunate in evolving a mode of politics that can include many discontinuities – of class, region, ethnicity, and religion.
We should not allow our republic, which was established with our sacrifice, to disintegrate. This would amount to disrespect for the heroes who sacrificed everything for the Republic of Indonesia.
Although we can talk about an Indonesian democracy, or we can talk about democratic elections and democratic rituals – the trappings of democracy – we can’t genuinely talk about democracy in Indonesia because there is not rule of law, and democracy without rule of law is a nonsense.
For the support and help from the people of Indonesia that I received during my leadership, I ask for forgiveness if there have been any mistakes or shortcomings. Hopefully the people of Indonesia will remain victorious based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
American strategic doctrine suggests that Mexico is of second-level importance to the United States. It ranks below Japan and Indonesia, Brazil and India, Egypt and Israel, and European powers including Britain, France, and Germany. This is a grave geopolitical miscalculation.
