I don’t want to be any kind of producer at all – hands-on or otherwise! I feel producing is a very difficult job and creates ulcers! Maybe some people would like to have a certain amount of control; not me. It’s too much stress and includes managing everybody’s egos… handling my own is enough!
There’s some jerks. There’s some big egos. There are a few that think they’re one of the Founding Fathers… in both parties.
Most entrepreneurs, when they become successful, they turn into idiots… It’s the same thing with rockstars and entrepreneurs: big money and big egos.
As a writer, you have control of the words you put on the page. But once that manuscript leaves your hand, you give control to the reader. As a director, you are limited by everything: weather, budget, and egos.
You do not want to be in a creative organisation with everybody being like-minded and stroking each other’s creative egos. You want differences of opinion… constructively.
Jose Mourinho knows how to control to big players in the dressing room, to control egos. He’s done it all his life and knows how to work it into the team.
