We’re losing track of the vastness of the potential for computer science. We really have to revive the beautiful intellectual joy of it, as opposed to the business potential.
What might we learn from lines of research that are off the beaten track? They check accepted ideas, always a good thing, and there is the chance nature has prepared yet another surprise for us.

With music, you’re working with a producer, and you walk out of the studio six hours later with a track that’s almost completely finished. There’s an almost immediate payoff.
I read something recently about authorities using facial recognition in cities to track people simply walking around. That’s kind of unsettling.
The industry has to learn how to do CEO succession well. If your definition of success is Intel or Microsoft or HP or IBM, that’s not a good track record, and yet they are the most successful ones.
