I’m not really clear what the whole deal is with flags. I like my flag, but I wouldn’t die for it. There’s issues of identity, of course. That’s going to always come in. I, for example, don’t want to be called a ‘North Britisher.’ I want to be Scottish.
I really admire Nick Hornby – for example, the way that he can make ordinary stuff so beautiful!
I got to get the right people in the right job. Because a lot of costs can be taken out in the context of your administration without the legislature. For example, using technology to do more with less. Using technology to fight fraud. Reorganizing and streamlining can be done within the context of the administration.
I like a kind of quiet place – Wimbledon Village, for example.
My mother tongue, Mende, is very expressive, very figurative, and when I write, I always struggle to find the English equivalent of things that I really want to say in Mende. For example, in Mende, you wouldn’t say ‘night came suddenly’; you would say ‘the sky rolled over and changed its sides.’
Divestitures have long been the preferred remedy for horizontal mergers, where there’s an overlap between the two companies. Airlines, for example, may have to sell routes or airport gates where the two airlines compete; cable operators may have to sell operations in cities where both companies operate.
I would encourage women to think about leaders in different fields or companies who they can draw parallels with. For example, I am constantly studying the lives and lessons of leaders in fields outside of technology, from the arts to politics. There is always something to learn.
In establishing democracy, we have to be sensitive to the regional and national context. Democracy also means to guarantee the rights of the minorities. That’s my job as a king. We have for example a Jewish ambassador in the US and a Christian in the UK.
