Obama has built his public image around his ability to bridge divisions – racial, ideological or generational. And that was his reputation, even at Harvard Law School, where he was the first black president of the ‘Law Review.’
I hated the Naked Chef. Fine, yes, he did good things for school food or whatever, but, you know, I don’t want my chefs to be cute and adorable.
The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.
When I started binge-watching TV, when that became a thing due to Netflix a few years ago, the first thing I watched was ‘Lost.’ It was summer break from grad school, and I watched it all in a row, like as many hours a day as I could, as though I were clocking in at a job.
I only went a year to high school. I should have been in high school, but I was in a band, and when you’re successful doing that – well, you aren’t too likely to go back.

A Sunday school is a prison in which children do penance for the evil conscience of their parents.
When I went to art school in Romania, we learned the Golden Ratio Technique Theory, which taught us that when you draw a portrait and want to show an emotion, you change the eyebrows. They are the most important feature on the face.
Yeah, I did some small parts in high school and the first year of college and then fairly soon thereafter I settled into the backstage scenery, and then at the University of Maryland I was doing posters for their productions.
I’ve been actually really very pleased to see how much awareness was raised around bullying, and how deeply it affects everyone. You know, you don’t have to be the loser kid in high school to be bullied. Bullying and being picked on comes in so many different forms.
For me, the Earth had always been a kind of a safe haven, you know, where I could go to work or be in my home or take my kids to school. But I realized it really wasn’t that. It really is its own spaceship. And I had always been a space traveler.
When I graduated from law school in 1959, there wasn’t a single woman on any federal bench. It wouldn’t be a realistic ambition for a woman to want to become a federal judge. It wasn’t realistic until Jimmy Carter became our president.
When I was four or five, I had an older brother who got paralyzed from the neck down in junior high school. Some kid did a wrestling fall on him and hit his spine. We had to take care of him. I went from being the baby to not really being the baby anymore.
I wasn’t bullied in high school, I was just ignored.
I remember I took a music course in junior year of high school, and some girl brought in ‘Teardrops On My Guitar,’ and she was like, ‘Isn’t this song great?’ And everyone was like, ‘Who’s Taylor Swift?’ And now, every time I listen to Taylor Swift, I remember that moment.
People lived in the same apartments for years. You’d meet a group of kids in kindergarten, and you’d still be with them in high school. No one ever left the neighborhood.
We are taught you must blame your father, your sisters, your brothers, the school, the teachers – but never blame yourself. It’s never your fault. But it’s always your fault, because if you wanted to change you’re the one who has got to change.
At one point, I recognized that Warren Buffett, though he had every advantage in learning from Ben Graham, did not copy Ben Graham but, rather, set out on his own path and ran money his way, by his own rules… I also immediately internalized the idea that no school could teach someone how to be a great investor.
I’m responsible for starting a whole new school of pretension.

Well, let me tell you, if you’re 45, had three children and are post-menopausal, you’re not going to weigh what you did the day you graduated from high school. Get that out of your head. That’s a media-driven ideal that you’re never going to healthfully obtain.
I think we should bring up our children with much less pressure to compete and get ahead: no comparing one child with another, at home or in school; no grades. Let athletics be primarily for fun, and let them be organized by children and youths themselves.
Indiana Jones is old school; we’ve moved on from Indy. Sorry, Harrison Ford.
I was a smart kid. I went to private school in middle school and got kicked out.
I’ve been thinking of humorous things since I was… I can’t remember when. All the way through elementary school, all the way through junior high, all the way through high school, through college and after college, I was thinking of the same kinds of things that I say in front of an audience now.
If you win a Super Bowl before you’re fired, you’re a genius, and everyone listens to you. But a coach is just a guy whose best class in grammar school was recess and whose best class in high school was P.E. I never thought I was anything but a guy whose best class was P.E.
Voting is how we participate in a civic society – be it for president, be it for a municipal election. It’s the way we teach our children – in school elections – how to be citizens, and the importance of their voice.
I studied German at school. I lived in Berlin for two years and had a German girlfriend for five years, so I don’t find speaking German particularly difficult. Singing was slightly more difficult.

I had a hard time going back to school after T2. I really didn’t want to go to private school.

My mother cleaned homes and drove school buses, and when my family was on the brink of foreclosure… I started bartending and waitressing.
I’ve been a fan of The Rock ever since he first came to wrestling. Every time I went to school, I talked about The Rock. So when I finally got to meet him I couldn’t believe it! When he walked through the door, I went bug-eyed! ‘I’m standing next to The Rock, man!’ He’s huge. He’s very nice, though.
