Don’t ever empty the bucket of mystery. Never let people define what you do. It’s not about zigging when you should zag. It’s not about doing something unprecedented and unpredictable. It’s just about never being a word, or something that is not in the process of transformation.

One of my favorite things about Tom Waits is not only his songs, but when he does do live shows, it’s the theatrics involved. It’s like Kabuki theater, really old-fashioned theatrics. Like, standing on top of a piece of plywood lying on some cinderblocks and clapping his hands, banging on a bucket.
It’s on the bucket list for sure to do a comedy film, even if it was just one line on the lot.
