All through my senior year, luckily, I didn’t have too many hard classes, just a lot of electives. I was able to spend most of my time at the practice space.
I quit high school on my birthday. It was my senior year and I didn’t see the point. This was 1962, and I was ready to make music.

My nickname senior year was ‘ugly duckling.’
My senior year of high school, I was voted ‘Wittiest.’ So, several years later, I decided to try my hand at writing humor to see if I could be witty enough to make some money.
At this point I was strongly advised that I was too young socially to go to college so I took a second senior year at Andover, another boarding school.
I kept up top grades, and by senior year, a flow of mailed college recruiting brochures accumulated into an avalanche on our dining room table.
When I was in senior year of high school, my mom lost her job, we lost our house, and we had to move in with my uncle and my aunt.
In fact, I was voted Prom Queen by my classmates in my senior year. So I went from being a wrestler to the prom queen in a year.
I was a telemarketer in my senior year at high school. I had to sell prosthetic limbs to paralysed veterans. I was making 150 bucks a week and it was horrible.
I took acting classes in my senior year in college and I loved it.
I got hurt my senior year of college. I ended up breaking my fifth metatarsal after I pulled out of the Draft. That was a good experience for me to kind of find myself, figure out a plan for post-basketball because obviously it doesn’t last forever.
I’ve carried my chip with me my entire career. I’ve had to fight and claw for every position I’ve had. I sat on the bench as a junior in high school, I had to compete my senior year in high school to get the job. I competed again at Vanderbilt before having success.
I learned to canoe at summer camp and thought I’d pursue Olympic whitewater canoeing. In my senior year of high school, I instead decided to attend M.I.T. I like to say I’ve had only two jobs in my life: whitewater canoeing instructor and wilderness guide in college, and C.E.O. of iRobot.
My senior year was crazy. We were defending champions, we were on national TV just about every weekend, and we were winning. Teams always brought their best when they went up against us, and we always matched it.
By my senior year in high school, I was friends with every group.
