I’ve flown from Aspen and then to Switzerland the next day and then off again the day after. That’s the thing I love most about snowboarding, honestly – getting to travel and explore different places and meet people.
I didn’t really like snowboarding in the beginning. Now, I just love it. I’m in love with it.
I go through phases of not liking the pretention and sycophantic nature of L.A. but I can be surfing in 10 minutes and snowboarding in two hours – I love the connection with nature.
I grew up born and raised in Las Vegas and actually grew up skiing. You know, we’ve got some ski resorts close to Las Vegas, up in Mount Charleston or Brian Head, so I grew up skiing and snowboarding.
The world of extreme sports is also one of big business. Kids might think that snowboarding is the ultimate freedom, but this freedom is being marketed to them by commercial sponsors.
I tried snowboarding before, and I suck at it.
I had a snowboarding accident. I fell off a horse. I’ve had a concussion, a fractured rib… I walk into walls. I’m always bruised up.
All through high school, I was incredibly healthy. I loved the outdoors, and I loved snowboarding because of the freedom.
I love snowboarding.
I love how snowboarding is like no other sport out there – I mean, some of my best friends are my biggest competitors. And we just cheer each other on. It’s a very supportive sport.
I think everyone in snowboarding is close. We’ve become a big family. It’s not a cutthroat sport. I’m competing against one of my best friends, and I think it’s cool to be at the top of the half pipe, dropping in with your competitor but your best friend, too.
