Every European goes on the streets and sees medieval churches. Not if you live in Indianapolis. The most exciting letters I received were from people in places like that.
I really enjoy watching people like Madonna, or Cher, or Barbra Streisand on the red carpet. I want to see people wearing exciting things that are different and to know that they’re not just looking for the latest, most normal thing.
For me, competition is good; that is what keeps me on my toes and keeps me going. I am always trying to better my own work, do better than my earlier films… do films that are challenging and exciting for me.
The craft Emmys are kind of the kids’ table at Thanksgiving. You’re not really invited to the big dance. It’s still really, really exciting, and the statue still counts.
I can tell you that going to the Oscars is not as exciting as people think, at least for me.
