I think everyone should aspire to be someone great, and that was one of the greats. Aaliyah was one of the great ones.
I like so many different directors: Scorsese, Coppola, Cassavetes, Jarmusch, Gus van Sant, Woody Allen and the greats like Fellini, Bergman, Tarkovsky and among current filmmakers von Trier, Ang Lee, Wong Kar-wai.
I study all the greats.
‘The Shining,’ ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street,’ ‘Halloween.’ Those are the greats.
I grew up listening to the greats of the ’80s and, thanks to my parents, the ’70s – the Doobie Brothers, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Luther Vandross, Lionel Richie.
I want to work with the greats.
As a student in London, I had seen so many shows, so many plays and had seen so many greats of the day.
When you talk about those Liverpool greats, they had players who won everything. Some great team men, great goalscorers, longevity.
I do believe there are leaders who are like lightning and they come along and they lead. The Lincolns of the world, the Alexander the Greats, they do exist. They have existed.
The greats – they protect their sleep because it’s where the best work comes from. They say no to things. They turn in when they hit their limits. They don’t let the creep of sleep deprivation undermine their judgment.
Who do I think was the greatest? This might shock you: Elgin Baylor. He did so many great things. Nobody could guard him, playing in the forward spot. I’d love to see some of today’s greats playing against Elgin. They couldn’t guard him. Nobody could.
Like the greats, you want to make your own story yourself, and not be a copy of another.
I want to be one of the greats. I feel like the money and all that is going to come, but I want to be a name that, like, when you say Nas or Jay Z, that’s forever.
I’m all about leaving a legacy behind and trying to cement myself as one of the greats. I don’t just want to be remembered as the guy who beat Michael Phelps at the 2012 London Olympics – a one-hit wonder – I want to be an inspiration to the kids.
I definitely study the greats.
I love to think of some of the greats like Dior, or Chanel, lying in bed at night unable to sleep because the image of a dress came creeping into their minds and they couldn’t let it go, so on went the bedside light as they reached for their pen and paper to translate that vision into an image.
Being recognised by Guinness World Records in their 60th year is a real honour. It’s also a real privilege for me to be positioned beside such sporting greats.
