What I love about L.A. is that people say they’re going for a hike, which just means a walk. It’s a stroll, but if you walk in L.A., it’s a hike.
I was a very unpredictable child. I’d pack a bag and go off and do a hike in the mountains for 10 days.
I love hiking in the hills not far from my house. I’m invested in my hikes. Sometimes kids go up there and spray-paint over the signs; I’ve found a biodegradable paint cleaner, and I’ll scrub the signs so they’re nice and clean.
Our down time at home consists of hikes and video games and trying to cook – because we are awful at it.
Now, to find dinosaurs, you hike around in horrible conditions looking for a dinosaur. It sounds really dumb, but that’s what it is. It’s horrible conditions, because wherever you have nice weather, plants grow, and you don’t get any erosion, and you don’t see any dinosaurs.
My schedulers keep getting driven crazy by the fact that they can’t fit hikes in my schedule.
I’m a pretty active person. I love yoga, crossfit, Zumba, and got to get that occasional hike in at Runyon Canyon when I can. I also love mentoring youth.
Like most people I can be lazy, so it’s nice to have a goal or deadline or reason to work out. I feel better when I get to exercise, or when I’m outdoors. I like to hike, swim and run, and I love to play soccer.
If I’m anywhere close to where I can hike or swim, that’s my favourite thing to do.
While at Cal Tech I talked a lot with Jon Mathews, then a junior faculty member; he taught me how to use the Institute’s computer; we also went on hikes together.

But the fact is, it’s illegal for the Administration to spend North west taxpayers’ money to develop this rate hike proposal, just so it can turn around and raise their energy rates.
I oppose indexing gas tax hikes to inflation.
In high school, I went to a place called the Mountain School. It’s on a farm in Vermont, and I read Emerson and Thoreau and ran around the woods. Now I go hiking with a bunch of my comedy buddies. We talk about our emotions. I also do a lot of writing on hikes, just to get the blood flowing and the ideas moving.
I need your help. I am injured, near death, and too weak to hike out of here. I am all alone. This is no joke. In the name of God, please remain to save me. I am out collecting berries close by and shall return this evening. Thank you, Chris McCandless.
