I am a hardcore Bihari boy. I am born and brought up in Bihar, and for me, ethnicity is not a problem and is inbuilt in me.
Writers can write outside their ethnicity or sex depending how open and vulnerable they wish to be.
I consciously think about the ethnicity of every character that I create and cast. But one thing that is equally important is quality representation. Black artists are encouraged to explore their identity but are then pigeonholed according to their ethnicity. We may have seen the decline of old racism, but we are witnessing a new kind of racialising.
