I’ve always wanted to become a grand-slam champion and to become the best in the world. Without that, the victories aren’t as sweet or the defeats as motivating.
President Obama has only had two major policy victories during his tenure: the stimulus package and Obamacare. Both are massively unpopular. The stimulus package launched the Tea Party movement. Obamacare led to the Republican wipeout of 2010.
As much as the Congress is criticized – and a lot of it is well deserved – the fact is there are many quiet victories if you keep your head down and know how to maneuver in the process and get things done.
I have not lost an awful lot in my life, but the defeats have taught me more than the victories. Whenever I lose, I focus on the ability of my opponent and on the mistakes I made.
