Owen Wilson is an actor, but think of him as a sort of secret agent. He has an offbeat, indie-movie sensibility. Every so often, however, he infiltrates some big-budget movie he clearly doesn’t belong in – ‘Anaconda,’ ‘Armageddon,’ ‘The Haunting’ – and struggles valiantly to stop it from sucking.
Maybe every city has a unique sensibility, but we don’t have names for what they are or haven’t identified them all. We can’t pinpoint exactly what makes each city’s people unique yet.
David Foster Wallace, in my opinion, is one of the greatest writers we’ve ever had, certainly in the last twenty years. His obvious dominance of the English language is partnered with honest moments and the most beautifully dark sensibility.
