Hip hop’s all about expression. That’s why I got into it.
Hip hop was definitely, far and away, the primary influence for at least 10 years of my life. From about 7 or 8 on till about 15 or 16, that’s all I listened to.
I’m a rapper and, obviously, hip hop rap is my main thing. But I also like to dive into different genres and kind of be a bit more experimental and open myself up a bit, whether that’s taking influence from jazz or soul or electronic.
Right whales, for all their size, are surprisingly athletic. They roll, they slap their flukes, they lift their heads out of the water in a move known as a spy hop. They find playthings and are particularly fond of swimming repeatedly through clumps of seaweed, which slides over them like a feathered boa.
I like listening to reggae, hip hop, ragga and R&B when I am skipping.

It’s a slippery slope when you make the argument that hip hop is only a black person’s art. Certainly, its origins are in that community, but if you want it to endure as an art form you have to let other people have their way with it.

How you act, walk, look and talk is all part of Hip Hop culture. And the music is colorless. Hip Hop music is made from Black, brown, yellow, red and white.
As a little kid, I watched hip hop get created. So it’s an honour for me to represent the Bronx, the motherland of hip hop.
My ideal would be to hop both sides of the Atlantic to work, as I’m sure every actor would.

Hip hop helped me learn about a whole bunch of American culture.
I was in bands, like everyone else, when I was 16, 17; I was a little skater listening to Dead Kennedy’s and Steel Pole Bath Tub. It was through early 90s Hip Hop that I found my way to Soul and Funk, and then out the other side into beats.
The first time I played golf was in Flushing Meadows, Queens, when I was about 16 or 17. They had an 18-hole pitch-and-putt. My buddies and I would hop the fence and sneak on and play.
When Americans think of college these days, the first word that often comes to mind is ‘debt.’ And from ‘debt’ it’s just a short hop to other unpleasant words, like ‘payola,’ ‘kickback,’ and ‘bribery.’
My main inspirations come from early ’90s Trance, the French electro movement round ’06, then a bunch of artists like Flying Lotus, J Dilla, Moby, The Prodigy. So I’d say it’s some kind of experimental electronica with a strong hip hop influence. It’s chilled, but people can still get super crazy and dance to it.
