I like to think of deviled eggs as a suit. The egg white and filling are like the jacket and pants – they’re the main attraction, and the part that the egg is largely going to be judged by.
I love a good suit, and when I see photographs of myself in a jacket that doesn’t fit me quite right or the sleeves are too long, it drives me insane.
I never wore a studded leather jacket, y’know. Ne-va!
People ask me about ‘The Hurt Locker’ a lot, and it’s an incredible piece of filmmaking – as are ‘Band of Brothers’ and ‘Platoon’ and ‘Full Metal Jacket’ and ‘Apocalypse Now.’ But they’re not necessarily true to war in a literal sense. What they are, really, are brilliant movies about Hollywood’s idea of war.
H&M makes it easy for a guy to look great every single day and create a personal style. Their men’s collection always gives me a choice of how I want to dress, whether it be sharp in a suit and polo-neck, or more relaxed in jeans and a tweed jacket.
It’s fun to dress up and look good. And it’s fun to try on clothes and wear a different jacket every night. It also helps you on stage to feel like you belong there.
I always liked performing in front of my parents’ friends. My dad bought me a karaoke machine, and I would put on a Michael Jackson song like ‘Thriller,’ and I would come out with, like, a hat and a jacket, and, like, moonwalk in my socks, so I was always performing.
‘Circuital’ was just so much about us as a band. We captured every song live, including the main vocal. That is probably my favorite My Morning Jacket record because it’s really the essence of us being us. The solo record is just a completely different essence of just me trying to figure out stuff.
I was the girl in the black leather jacket with the black fingernails, picked up after school by guys with loud cars and motorcycles. I carried straight-A grades, but I had a little trouble with rules. I tended to have a bit of an authority problem.
I have this vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycle jacket. When I put it on, it has this supercool feeling to it.
As a Fox News Channel contributor, I’ve learned most of the tips over the years: look into the camera like it’s a good friend; pull your suit jacket down and sit on it so it doesn’t bunch up; and most importantly, never, ever say anything while sitting in that studio that you wouldn’t want someone else to hear.
I think I would have one favourite jacket, one favourite pair of sneakers – like, from every kind of thing I do have my favourite – but they’re often the things I wear the least because I just want to keep them nice, so I don’t really tend to wear them as much.
Never wear a seersucker suit straight off the rack. It’s going to look shapeless and droopy. If you’re going to sport seersucker, whether a jacket, trousers or a full suit, have it fitted. A nice, custom, tailored fit makes all the difference in the world.
When I first starting writing, and no one was paying me, in order to feel like I had a real job, I would get out of bed, put on a jacket and tie every morning, and sit down at my desk.
I can’t say I have a lucky charm, but I do wear a 3/4-zip U.S.A. jacket I wear to every event. I got it from Nike, and it was from the 2012 Olympic Games.
I pretty much grew up when punk was big in the UK. The Sex Pistols were heroes for me. I used to run around like Johnny Rotten. I had a jacket like his.
I was never really a Mod. I thought I was more of a beatnik with the brown corduroy jacket, blue jeans, etc. I loved the music Mods liked, and I loved the clothes, but I didn’t have any money to spend on them.
You don’t want to be wearing tight jeans and a blingy jacket on a 16-hour flight.
When I was older and I first started working, I was obsessed with buying my first Chanel jacket. I saved up my hard-earned money, went to Barneys, and bought a little black Chanel jacket. It saw many, many job interviews and many, many events. I’m not fitting into it lately, but I still have it.
I kind of have a uniform for office parties and Christmas parties. What I do is put on a basic tuxedo shirt with a solid navy or black tie, a tweed jacket, a red pocket square, and some sort of fancy shoe or velvet slipper.
I do things like hem a pair of pants, I do my own tailoring but I wouldn’t attempt a jacket.
I find my dress sense tends to be a bit of a mixture between high fashion and unique vintage pieces with a little bit of street trends. For example, I might find a really nice, suede dinner jacket that I’d wear with a basic plain white shirt and some chinos and a pair of Nike trainers.
Whenever I go to work I wear a jacket and a tie, because I’m inherently quite lazy, and my books take so long to do, and my publishers don’t bug me, so it’s so easy to fool yourself into thinking you’re working harder than you really are.
The first time I was ever impressed with Patagonia as a brand was when they released the ‘Don’t Buy This Jacket’ campaign. That campaign highlighted their understanding of their role in a larger environmental justice space.
I wear boots. I wear jeans and usually just sort of a beat-up T-shirt and a leather jacket. If I bring more leather jackets home, my wife will kill me.
Tech Jacket shares the same tone as Invincible, but the subject matter is very different. Where Invincible is about perfection, Tech Jacket is about flaws.
I’m a real dumb-dumb in real life. I’m just book smart. But definitely not street smart. The other day I lost my jacket in a cab. And I’ll forget things every time I leave the house.
When I was 15, I wore combat boots with a fluorescent Columbia ski jacket. I was trying to find myself.
Nan Kempner wore one of the first Saint Laurent trouser suits to one of those fancy Madison Avenue restaurants and was denied access. She famously took off her pants and walked in wearing only the jacket. And it was that kind of revolution that was echoed in fashion and in life.
I used to dress up like Michael Jackson. I didn’t have the glove, but I had a red jacket like in ‘Thriller.’
I’ve known a lot of people who were punkers who went on to get academic degrees. Very few of them, however, continued their active role in the punk community. Most of them hung up their leather jacket when they did so.
There’s something wonderful about taking a tag off a pair of socks, off a shirt, off a jacket. I really think that it has to do with my wanting to give myself all the perks that there are. It’s part of my psychosis.
I love seeing people’s reactions to gifts that I’ve created from my line, such as my gold horn ring, bottle openers, my ‘Fallen’ leather jacket and my Slither black and white sweater.
I like unkempt; I don’t mind if I have holes in my jacket or whatever. I think people should look more the way they feel.
It’s so great to see a woman dressed in jeans and a lace-up boot with an extraordinary jacket. It’s a moment where you do want to mix high and low, and it’s not so much about a head-to-toe designer look.
I have this old Polo jacket. I’ve got to bring it wherever I go. And I have this one cape that somebody gave to me. It’s this jumpsuit with this cape on the back that this one person gave to me. It’s clutch.
There was a rule at Rangers, going back to the 1950s, that players needed to turn up for every training session dressed in a suit and tie. I was a teenager. You’d have been lucky to see me in a jacket even on a Sunday – it just wasn’t my style.
I have a friend who only buttons the bottom button of his suit jacket, which you’re not supposed to do. ‘Supposed to do.’ But it’s his thing, and it’s his personal style, and it’s like you’ve got to honor that. People can do whatever they want.
My style overall is whatever is comfy, whatever I feel like wearing that day that I feel good in. I have some really classic pieces that I can dress up, dress down, wear to the movies or wear to a really nice dinner. And I love a really good leather jacket.
I went to high school every single day in an all-male Jesuit school at McQuaid with short hair, no beard, suit jacket, tie.
I kept having chills. This was in the middle of the summer and I was wearing a sheepskin jacket and I was chilling. I was shaking all over.
With a stretch belt, anything can be a dress – a dinner napkin, a tablecloth, even a towel. Just wrap and snap, and away you go in an incredible outfit. Another plus is that the belt will pull all eyes to your lovely curves, and they even look good around a coat or a jacket.
Back in the Eighties, I’d buy the biggest Benetton jumper I could find and would wear it long-sleeved, hanging off my shoulders, with a varsity jacket and a baseball cap on back to front with a quiff. I was the smallest boy in my class, and I looked like a reject from New Kids On The Block. Terrible.
But in another, I think a woman’s going to go into a shop to find a coat or a jacket and I just don’t think she’s not going to go into a shop because of a bad review she probably didn’t even read.
On a recent trip to New York, I bought myself a seriously denim jacket that my daughter begged to borrow. I refused! They are so cavalier with my stuff, the kids – Oh my god, I am turning into my mother!
Houdini connected to people on an emotional level so that when he would escape that straight jacket it wasn’t about the straight jacket. It was about people looking at it and escaping poverty. When you have that it’s the truest form of magic.
People on the heavier side can go for a wide-legged trouser with a double brisket jacket, while women with a slim figure must go for a slim leg trouser with a single button jacket.
