Partnering with MetroPCS is a great opportunity for me. It’s great to be partnered with a company that serves a consumer similar to the UFC and my fan base.
We knew we had a big fan base over there in the U.K. and we were excited to get over there.
‘Watchmen’ is like the music you feel is written just for you. ‘That’s my song, no one else gets that but me.’ That’s why the fan base is so rabid, because they feel personal about it.
I thought the idea of ‘Smurfs’ lent itself to the 3-D environment pretty well, I think, better than some of the farm animal movies that have been done before. I was a fan of the ‘Smurfs’ and they come with their own fan base, which I thought was nice.
We wanted to establish a new fan base over here. And second, we wanted to challenge ourselves. We wanted to bring what is ostensibly new music to fresh ears and see what lights them up.
I could always play the drums, so I have some musical talent, but I don’t live in Atlanta or LA, so I can’t just randomly bump into major artists. So instead, I started building my fan base and my name by networking through the internet. Mostly through Twitter, Youtube, Instagram and Facebook.
Every time I fought at home, I gave my fans a knockout. I spoiled my fan base in Cincinnati.
Twitter is essential to me because I wake up and check it religiously. It’s a way I communicate with my fan base.
You can’t really force kids to like music. I’m a firm believer in an organic fan base.
