I’ve been in small towns everywhere from the U.K. to Alabama.
Please know that my thoughts and prayers, as well as those of many, many others here in Alabama and around the country, are with each of you during this time.
I had an art teacher who’s the reason I got there in high school who encouraged me to go to Alabama. That’s where she had gone and kept raving over their art department.
I’ve had many a player tell me all through high school and right up until signing day that they were coming to Alabama, then they signed with somebody else.
Every day, the hard-working men and women of Alabama’s Department of Environmental Management are on the ground, protecting Alabama’s rivers and lakes in a way that is beneficial to all. EPA should support them in that work, not make it more difficult.
I just grew up a poor black kid in Alabama with a single mom and two brothers.
When I moved to Chicago, I was coming from a school that didn’t have any arts in Alabama. I essentially came from a town where the arts didn’t exist and the desire for education didn’t exist and wasn’t valued.
Life for my family was a real struggle, as it was for most in those farming communities in Alabama.
Improving Alabama’s parks, trails and ball fields makes our communities better places to live and promotes healthier and happier people.
I had fallen in love with Cherry as a junior in high school. When I discovered she was going to go to Auburn, I was vacillating between Alabama and Kentucky because of Babe. I eliminated Kentucky because I wanted to be as close to Auburn as I could, and Tuscaloosa is a lot closer than Lexington is.
Whenever I tell people in Berkeley, Calif., where I live, that I’m headed to the beach in Alabama, they are shocked. Most people outside of the Gulf Coast have no idea that Alabama has beaches – even though if you look at a map of Alabama, there is a part of it that looks as if it should belong to Florida.
Things down here in Hawaii are similar to Alabama. We go to church every Sunday. People are treated like family there just like here. There are many similarities there, and you want to be somewhere that feels like home, and that’s what Alabama feels like.
I can’t thank Birmingham and Alabama enough for the love and support. I can’t thank everyone enough for their time and love and commitment.
Most of all, our troops from Alabama said they appreciate the care packages from folks back home.
The saddest face I ever saw on Martin Luther King was at the funeral of the four little girls slain in Birmingham, Alabama.
My family has been through a lot – just a lot of trials, tribulations and failures – and we didn’t have a lot of anything besides love. So, when it came my time to do something, my family refused to let me fail. They didn’t want me to fall into the trail that they followed to stay in Alabama.
I kinda feel that my brother wrote some of the best country lyrics ever – ‘The Ballad of Curtis Loew,’ ‘Mississippi Kid’ and that little hit ‘Sweet Home Alabama.’
I was only a gun captain on the battleship Alabama for 34 months. People have called me a hero for that, but I’ll tell you this – heroes don’t come home. Survivors come home.
