Supplying fuel for a Mars expedition from the lunar surface is often suggested, but it’s hard to make it pay off – Moon bases are expensive, and just buying more rockets to launch fuel from Earth is relatively cheap.
I had this idea of writing a sci-fi musical about a woman who falls in love with a robot and realizes it’s a love that can’t be, and enlists in the Mars One project.
When American producers see my film, they think that I had a big budget to do it, like 23 million. But in fact I had 10 percent of that budget. I did ‘Mars et Avril’ for only 2.3 million.
In my space journey, I felt vulnerable because we did not have anyone with medical background. When we make that big trip to Mars, we would need a doctor on board.
With migration to Mars becoming a not so distant reality one can only hope that there will be more rainbows on Mars and not magma marking territories.
The more we look at the kinds of soils and the nature of the atmosphere and the polar caps, it all adds up to tell us that some liquid, which we very much believe was water, did flow in abundance on Mars in the past.
I started my career as a novelist. ‘Veronica Mars’ was first imagined as a novel.
People keep putting limitations on themselves and creating this reality that soul music is dead. That’s only in their reality. It’s not true. To me, Adele is R&B. Bruno Mars is R&B. It’s just good songwriting and songs. That is going to last.
On Mars, where the air is spare – a hundred times less dense than on Earth – someone could hear you scream. But you’d have to really strain to get anyone’s attention. On the Red Planet, where the wind is high-pitched and faint, even a symphony orchestra will sound as thin as cheap gruel.
Surely, if we can land a spaceship on Mars, we can certainly put a voter ID card in the hand of every eligible voter.
The first stories I wrote when I was 12 were about Mars and landing on Mars.
I would suspect strongly that over a period of time, if we put our mind to going to Mars, it will be a consortium of several countries.
You need to live in a dome initially, but over time you could terraform Mars to look like Earth and eventually walk around outside without anything on… So it’s a fixer-upper of a planet.
We are involved in technology development for, you know, missions that we hope to plan that would take us to an asteroid and eventually to Mars.
Exploring and colonizing Mars can bring us new scientific understanding of climate change, of how planet-wide processes can make a warm and wet world into a barren landscape. By exploring and understanding Mars, we may gain key insights into the past and future of our own world.
Mars is far more attractive as an outpost colony for earthlings than the moon is.
The space program needs a goal, and the goal should be humans to Mars.
I said we would have WrestleMania on Mars one day. I think that would be a match to see.
We thought our careers as cosmonauts – we were young then – would end with a flight to Mars. But, you see, life has made some course corrections.
Love hurts, love scars, love wounds, and mars.
I’m not just trying to be good at one thing and then call it a day. I want to be like Bruno Mars.
Bruno Mars, I’m kind of obsessed with him.
I just always lived in stories in my head. I believed I was a Martian princess until I was 10. I believed I was never going to die, and I’d been adopted and put on Earth because there was a war… and still sometimes, as I get older, I hope for my immortal life on Mars.
I do not expect NASA to go out and build settlements and colonies. I do not expect them to give SpaceX all the money needed to colonize Mars. I do not expect them to realize the future of humanity is contingent on harvesting the wealth of the solar system overnight and suddenly subsidize my asteroid mining project.
Pascal Lee is a true pioneer of Mars exploration.
I love ‘Gossip Girl’! I still miss ‘Veronica Mars,’ though.
As a kid, I used to tell all these stories. I remember meeting a childhood friend, and we were talking. We remembered that I had made up this story about going to Mars. And she looked at me and said, ‘I didn’t sleep for a week after that!’
I think humans will reach Mars, and I would like to see it happen in my lifetime.
As we visit Mars multiple times, we will build up infrastructure on the surface to expand the capabilities and reach of humans on Mars.
I love life in spite of all that mars it. I love friendship, jokes and laughter.
I’ll go to Mars, even if I got there and died on the way back. It’s just the opportunity. How many people can say they went to Mars?
The surface of Mars is bathed in ultraviolet light, bathed in radiation. Mars’s magnetic field is essentially gone, so the surface of Mars is essentially sterilized.
We’ve gotta become the Martians. I’m a Martian – I tell you to become Martians. And we’ve gotta go to Mars and civilize Mars and build a whole civilization on Mars and then move out, 300 years from now into the universe. And when we do that, we have a chance of living forever.
When people initially think of the term ‘space archaeologist,’ they think, ‘Oh, it’s someone who uses satellites to look for alien settlements on Mars or in outer space,’ but the opposite is true – we’re actually looking for evidence of past human life on planet earth.
Ballroom dancing is like being on Mars compared to what I’ve done throughout my life.
NASA needs to decide, along with Congress, what our destination is going to be, whether it’s going to be the moon, an asteroid or on to Mars. And we’re building a heavy-lift vehicle to get us there and building the capsules that’s going to be needed to carry the crew.
And I realized, when I’d come in to the meetings with these corrugated metal and chain link stuff, and people would just look at me like I’d just landed from Mars. But I couldn’t do anything else. That was my response to the people and the time.
Human beings will be happier – not when they cure cancer or get to Mars or eliminate racial prejudice or flush Lake Erie but when they find ways to inhabit primitive communities again. That’s my utopia.
There’s nothing I would like more than to watch a manned Mars landing.
The day Apollo 11 landed, I knew men would walk on Mars in my lifetime. I’m no longer nearly so sure. The last budget put forward in Canada contained not a penny for Mars.
Irvin Kershner, no matter what anyone says, has done some great work. ‘Eyes of Laura Mars’ is an incredible movie.
My chances of being PM are about as good as the chances of finding Elvis on Mars, or my being reincarnated as an olive.
I don’t think we should have to do a Mars mission on the basis of hysteria. I think we should do a Mars mission on the basis of a deliberate judgment that what we want to do is open up a new planet for humanity… that we are continuing to be a nation of pioneers.
There’s a lot to do in space. I want to learn more about the greenhouse effect on Venus, about whether there was life on Mars, about the environment in which Earth and the Sun is immersed, the behavior of the Sun.
By the mid-17th century, telescopes had improved enough to make visible the seasonally growing and shrinking polar ice caps on Mars, and features such as Syrtis Major, a dark patch thought to be a shallow sea.
I had always wanted to pursue music. It was always a dream, but it was always a dream in the sense of, when you’re young, ‘I want to be president’ or ‘I want to be an astronaut and fly to Mars.’ That’s what it was to me.
I’ve been doing stuff for ABC for a long time, since 2004. I’ve had several deals with them. Like, ‘Life on Mars,’ that was a large event for me in my career.
Going to Mars would make NASA great again.
When we came along in 1982, music was getting boring – like 1976 when punk hadn’t happened. We wanted to be rock ‘n’ roll. We grew up with The Velvet Underground, the Stones and Mars bars and Marianne Faithfull and we knew we didn’t want to be boring – and we weren’t!
I think space exploration is very important. I think there is very intelligent life on Mars. I believe that Martians are spying on us from the bottom of the ocean.
Lauryn Hill’s always been a hero of mine. And Bruno Mars, Janelle Monae and Adele, those are the current artists I would reference in terms of who’s been able to do really amazing pop records with really cool, organic throwback elements of soul in there as well.
When I was a kid, I was reliably informed that we’d have gone to Mars by 1985, and of course it’s 2012, and we’re still really no closer to a human expedition to Mars, but that shouldn’t detract from the amazing achievements that are being done on a day-to-day basis by robotic envoys.
My interest in space started early, but for many years, I could not find any space-related investments that really penciled-out for venture. That changed in 2009 when Elon Musk came to us with a big vision to explore Mars while producing rockets at a fraction of a price and making space accessible.
Space architectures capable of supporting a permanent human presence on Mars are extraordinarily complex, with many different interdependent systems.
The world domination plan goal is that I would love Veronica Mars to become a brand like Sherlock Holmes is a brand, like Nancy Drew, in a way, is a brand. When people start listing who are the great fictional detectives, I want Veronica Mars to make that list. That would be the dream scenario.
