The government does things like insisting that all encryption programs should have a back door. But surely no one is stupid enough to think the terrorists are going to use encryption systems with a back door. The terrorists will simply hire a programmer to come up with a secure encryption scheme.
The NRA is interested in protecting the civil rights of Americans, not protecting the ability of terrorists to get guns.
Ought we not to ask the media to agree among themselves a voluntary code of conduct, under which they would not say or show anything which could assist the terrorists’ morale or their cause while the hijack lasted.
We saw when those World Trade towers came down what these terrorists will do.
What is happening in the Sahel for the past several months is that terrorists have structured themselves, have installed themselves. It’s not simply a menace for west Africa.
I have strongly rejected the proposal to pardon and transfer her to the United States. I do not have the legal power to pardon terrorists and even if I did, I would not use it.
What are we fighting the terrorists for if we ourselves do not even stand up for democracy – civil liberties and fundamental rights – which includes independence of the judiciary?
People should beware of those who hail terrorists and play with the security of the country.
I believe in strong borders, including keeping out Islamic terrorists. If people think that’s inherently racist, fine – but I’m an American nationalist, not a white nationalist.
Some media outlets refer to ‘protesters’ and ‘militia members,’ not ‘terrorists,’ even though armed antigovernment extremists seizing federal property and expressing a desire to kill and die is a textbook description of domestic terrorism.
In my book, I detail the critical information we obtained from al Qaeda terrorists after they became compliant following a short period of enhanced interrogation. I have no doubt that that interrogation was legal, necessary and saved lives.
Where do these arms come from, these Saturday night specials that constitute the instrument of threats in bank robberies, or the hand grenades used by terrorists? How can their sales and their import be permitted?
Decisive action has been taken on the home front with passage of the USA Patriot Act, which has strengthened the hand of law enforcement agencies to stop terrorists before they can act.
On occasion, terrorists will succeed despite our best efforts. That is part of the legacy of 9/11. But 9/11 also shows us that while terrorists can destroy, they are unable to create.
We can’t gather the intelligence we need to foil future attacks, if we are blindly granting terrorists the right to remain silent. But for some reason, we’ve already done that – with the terrorist who tried to bring down Flight 253.
I think people all across the country want us to secure the border and make sure that terrorists are not coming into our country.
The CIA has acknowledged that it has detained about 100 terrorists since 9/11, and about a third of them have been subjected to what the CIA refers to as ‘enhanced interrogation tactics,’ and only a small proportion of those have in fact been subjected to the most serious types of enhanced procedures.
The terrorists may want to try and legitimize their violence by cynically appealing to Islamic motifs or doctrines, but there is no reason the rest of us should help them do it.
It’s not law-abiding gun owners that are the problem here – it’s Islamic terrorists.
That’s what really concerns me about the modern-day terrorists that we face is this global expansion.
The administration says, then, there are no downsides or upsides to treating terrorists like civilian criminal defendants, but a lot of us would beg to differ.
As technology advances, so too does terrorists’ use of technology to communicate – both to inspire and recruit. The widespread use of technology propagates the persistent terrorist message to attack U.S. interests, whether in the homeland or abroad.
Somebody’s going to have to stand up to ISIS. It is a threat. When we have Americans beheaded, when we have people posing as refugees and become terrorists as in France, this is a scary time in the world.
The terrorists who committed the 2003 Istanbul attacks were locals, that is, Turks. And when filmmaker Theo van Gogh was murdered in the Netherlands last year, the murderer and his supporters were also part of the Muslim community.
And you know, it’s not just illegal immigration. Terrorists can come across. They’re devastating our ranchers down in southern Arizona – drop houses, kidnapping, automobile accidents, extortion, drugs, the spill-over with the drug cartels. We’re facing all of it.
If the terrorists have the sympathy of people, it’s much harder to find them. So we need people on our side, and that leads us to be responsible leaders of the world, show some concern with the problems.
We see and hear about Israelis and Palestinians only when they are defined by the global media as ‘occupiers,’ ‘terrorists,’ and ‘victims.’ But we forget that they are fathers and mothers and sons and daughters and neighbors and doctors and shop-owners and farmers and students.
The only message that terrorists need to get is that they’re going to be beaten.
In addition to anti-American terrorists with global reach, our adversaries include organizations – some nation states, some private and some criminal – that proliferate weapons of mass destruction and the means to deliver them.
Created specifically to house the world’s most dangerous terrorists, the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay is designed to keep both American personnel and the detainees safe and secure.
What is most troubling about Mr. Putin’s aggression in Crimea is that it reflects a growing disregard for America’s credibility in the world. That has emboldened other aggressive actors – from Chinese nationalists to Al Qaeda terrorists and Iranian theocrats.
Not all Muslims are terrorists, but almost all terrorists are Muslims.
Terrorism doesn’t have a border. Terrorists attack Mumbai, Peshawar, and also Paris.
Unsettling signs of al Qaeda’s aims and skills in cyberspace have led some government experts to conclude that terrorists are at the threshold of using the Internet as a direct instrument of bloodshed.
The comment that I’ve made is that if unaccompanied minors can cross the border, then certainly trained terrorists probably can, too.
Every time I tell my story, I feel that I am taking some power away from the terrorists.
These are Canadian and United States intelligence and law enforcement offices who are working in teams and who are using good intelligence and good law enforcement to really stop the criminals and terrorists before they ever get to the border.
We can’t possibly fight all the terrorists in all the countries where they exist because we don’t have the money or manpower to do so.
To a considerable extent we are faced by a technology arms race with terrorists. The communications revolution has made it easier for terrorist groups to reach out to vulnerable individuals with their violent extremist ideology and propaganda. It has also facilitated fundraising, recruitment and training.
Terrorists convince thousands of people to kill themselves in the name of God. I can’t convince two of my friends to help me move.
The closer Iraq approaches freedom and democracy, the more impediments and barriers the terrorists will erect.
I intend to vote against authorizing the president to use military force in Syria. The Obama Administration has not provided a clear or convincing strategy for inserting our military into the conflict. I am also deeply concerned about the extent to which al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists are involved in the rebellion.
Terrorists are people, too – they are given to error. Naipaul and then DeLillo do a good job in their novels of drawing this out: I’m thinking of DeLillo’s contention in ‘Mao II’ that terrorists have replaced writers as the people who ‘alter the inner-life of the culture.’ I thought that was marvellous!
In my experience, given how large the border is and given how many people are coming across the border, I mean, look, if a child can come across the border, and we know there’s hundreds of thousands of children that have, then what makes you think that ISIS and terrorists can’t?
The president needs to make certain an absolutely thorough vetting system is in place that will not allow terrorists from Syria or any other part of the world into our country.
Terrorists need no excuse to attack us here. They’ve shown that for decades and decades. We should be proud for the way we treated these savages at Guantanamo Bay and the way our soldiers conduct themselves all around the world to include the people doing the very hard work at Guantanamo Bay.
What is more comforting to the terrorists around the world: the failure to pass the 9/11 legislation because we lacked a majority of the majority,’ or putting aside partisan politics to enact tough new legislation with America’s security foremost in mind?
Recent action in Syria and Palestine also tell us that the awakening voices of democracy in those regions are occurring, and that those in that region are able to pursue it without being stifled by terrorists that are despotic.
Fences would be a hindrance to terrorists should they decide to come across a land border between the U.S. and Mexico and to California.
