I did not make this a long film for its own sake. I wanted to make an entertaining film and offer it out there for those who want to see it. If word of mouth suggests there is an audience out there, hopefully their cinema will show it.
We kind of had a rule where we said we’re not just going to do something in the States for the sake of it. We would host a show only if we would host the same show back home.
Action is only really compelling when it reveals character – character revealed through action, and not action for its own sake.
I’m not into power for the sake of it.
I have seen this whole process of films releasing, becoming hits or flops, for too long now to expect things to do well. If I expect a film to do well, then it is for somebody else’s sake, not for my own. I do my work, and if you feel that my work is improving from film to film, then I have done my part of the job.
You’re always going to sound like yourself, but you can make really strong attempts to keep some similarities, but move away from what you did before for popularity’s sake.
You never want to just be outrageous for outrageous’ sake ’cause then it doesn’t work, and it’s not believable. You want to be as true to whatever character you’re playing.
I don’t think we should be presentable or present ourselves for the sake of others.
I don’t want to take anything that’s coming in for the sake of work. I want to choose carefully, as I have done since leaving ‘EastEnders.’
We are not making this demand for the sake of a principle, but in the interests of the proletarian class.
When I sold Weststar Holidays, the idea was to take stock and stop and then decide in life – we were going to travel around the world or whatever we were going to do. After about two weeks my husband said to me, ‘Oh for goodness sake Deborah, get yourself a business because this is driving me bonkers.’
The goal, I submit, is obvious: subjugating the world (which is barbarian, dangerous, envious and ungrateful) to US power for the sake of America’s interests.
We continue to look at accretive and synergistic acquisitions both in the domestic as well as international markets. Our emphasis, thus, will be on strategic acquisitions, and we will not be doing it just for the sake of making our name bigger.
I used to be nervous about not working and so would work for the sake of it.
I have done films only for the sake of money and sometimes, I have been duped into believing that the film is a sensible project.
I love you the more in that I believe you had liked me for my own sake and for nothing else.
I don’t shop because I need something, I just shop for shopping’s sake.
The way I approach any role, whether it’s comedy or drama, I like to look for the truth first. I think comedy for the sake of comedy wears dull pretty quickly. You have to ground the character in reality first and allow the audience to sympathize, emphasize and be more invested.
No more bare bodies in film scenes for me. For my children’s sake, I must stop. The other kids at school keep throwing it up to my children, and they are not kind.
I’m not into bands for the sake of being into bands. I’ve grown past that. There was a time in my life when I was that guy.
But whether it be dream or truth, to do well is what matters. If it be truth, for truth’s sake. If not, then to gain friends for the time when we awaken.
If something’s not right, I don’t believe in maintaining something for the sake of what’s considered a traditional family, because I believe that there are different ways to raise children. It’s far more effective to raise children in happy homes.
Every effort should be made to help build the new democratic nation with reconciliation and forgiveness, for the sake of Egypt and not for the benefit of a party or a group.
Too much redesign has to do more with fad and fashion than with fitness and function. It is change for the sake of change. Such redesign is not only unnecessary, it is all too often also retrogressive, leading to things that work less effectively than those they were designed to replace.
I don’t believe in an annual dose of film music for the sake of it being film music. If we program film music, it will be because there is a real artistic reason for doing so.
I have no interest in being a celebrity. I wouldn’t go to anything that I wasn’t involved in just for the sake of wearing a nice frock and having my picture taken. That part of the business doesn’t make me feel very comfortable.
I was always more interested in the ultimate live performance rather than the recording for its own sake. And, for the audience too, that thrill of – just being there.
I don’t talk for the sake of talking and I don’t talk with a forked tongue.
You don’t get into a relationship just for the sake of having a boyfriend. Of course, you have hopes and dreams that your first relationship will be your last.
I always believe that people can learn a broader skill set. You need good technology and solving a big problem. I always think that, at it’s core, it’s solving a problem; you’re not building technology for the sake of technology.
We humans have a powerful instinct to flee from peril. It takes a special kind of courage, a deep sense of duty, and extraordinary character to overcome these impulses and – for the sake of others – to run toward the danger.
I do think the moral line you walk all the time about putting something in for the sake of the film and not being affected by people’s lives is a very tough one.
We always knew how to honor fallen soldiers. They were killed for our sake, they went out on our mission. But how are we to mourn a random man killed in a terrorist attack while sitting in a cafe? How do you mourn a housewife who got on a bus and never returned?
I don’t like the word feminist. I don’t think women trying to be men is feminism. I also don’t believe in being outspoken for the sake of it, or just to prove a point.
I went through a patch when I felt I didn’t deserve a nice car. I like to use them as treats, not have one for the sake of having one because I can afford one. I like to reward myself.
I’ve been always clear that I wouldn’t do TV soaps just for the sake of doing them. I would rather wait and work on projects which enable me to make an impact.
I love acting, I really do, I’ve always loved doing it, and it’s a joy to be asked to do this. I mean, to do Beatrice, for God’s sake, it is the best comedy Shakespeare role for a woman, and to be asked to do it.
I don’t do anything just for the sake of it. I don’t live my life for the sake of it.
One of my proudest moments is I didn’t sell my soul for the sake of popularity.
I don’t ever want to be gratuitous, for the sake of being gratuitous, but when it serves the stories and the characters, it’s nice to be able to do that, realistically and with credibility. You don’t want to do it for the sake of it, or shoe-horn it in. But, it’s a good tool to have in the toolbox.
That service is the noblest which is rendered for its own sake.
In Congress, there are some who are unashamed to aspire to eloquence, even to scholarship, but the only state legislator I ever knew who would not join in the mispronounceciation of a word for the sake of camaraderie with her fellows was former State Senator and Congresswoman Barbara Jordan.
I love what I do, and I’m not doing anything either for money or for the sake of some unfulfilled ambition.
After four seasons with Tottenham, where I had grown as much as possible, I needed new challenges for the sake of improving.
What I learned about music is that it can have nothing to do with words, instrumentation, image, message, or meaning. The meaning is the melody, the notes, the rhythm – music for the sake of its own beauty, with nothing more required to express itself.
I do not think that a museum needs to engage with pop culture in order to make itself interesting to museumgoers. Museums are already interesting and engaging with pop culture for its own sake is just a quick way to seem and become dated.
A king is a thing men have made for their own sakes, for quietness sake. Just as in a family one man is appointed to buy the meat.
And you don’t want to always write about politics just for the sake of writing about politics.
Being an actor, in and of itself, is just hard. You have to just do it for its own sake.
I’m not that interested in just being around powerful people for the sake of it.
For goodness sake, will they hear, will white people hear what we are trying to say? Please, all we are asking you to do is to recognize that we are humans, too.
Great art is never produced for its own sake. It is too difficult to be worth the effort.
For this reason poets and artists developed the doctrine of Art for Art’s Sake. The community did not appear to need them, so, tit for tat, they did not need the community. This being granted, it was no longer necessary or even desirable to make one’s poetry either intelligible or sympathetic to the community.
I don’t create from a place of me making art for art’s sake, but wanting my work to actually do stuff… tangible things.
A university anywhere can aim no higher than to be as British as possible for the sake of the undergraduates, as German as possible for the sake of the public at large-and as confused as possible for the preservation of the whole uneasy balance.
