Tea makes everything better.
Working as a teaboy may have helped my confidence, but not everyone else was so pleased. I could never remember who had milk or how many sugars, and I had an unusual talent for spilling tea on the recording console.
I was actually born in the front bedroom while my dad sat on the wall outside, feeling sick. Twenty minutes after my mother gave birth, she went downstairs and made my old man a cup of tea.
I have long said there are three distinct groups under the GOP’s tent: theological warriors, who want to impose their social views on the rest of society; Tea Party zealots, who say with a straight face that they want the government to get out of their Medicare; and remnants of the pro-business moderates.
The old men running the industry just have not got a clue. They’ve got to come to terms with the fact that Britain is no longer a totally white place where people ride horses, wear long frocks and drink tea. The national dish is no longer fish and chips; it’s curry.
Never trust a man, who when left alone with a tea cosey… Doesn’t try it on.
The similarities are limited but real. They amount to a shared disgust with politics as usual in America. The Tea Party focuses on the federal government; Occupy Wall Street focuses on corporate America and its influence over the government.
The chief thing is to make children feel good about themselves. They want to step into the shoes of a hero who is bigger and stronger, to face tremendous dangers and come home safely for tea.
When you have nobody you can make a cup of tea for, when nobody needs you, that’s when I think life is over.
I liked being a teenager, but I would not go back for all the tea in China.
I don’t go and sit in parlor for two to three hours – that’s not my cup of tea, but I make sure I am nice and well dressed.
Perhaps the loneliest time was during the Tata Tea issue in Assam. For some reason, everyone believed that we had conspired with the extremists, ULFA. People still believe what they read is necessarily the truth. Sometimes it is based on inadequate or wrong information.
Another woman approached me while I was having lunch at the Russian Tea Room in New York and told me that the reason she had become a lawyer was because she had read ‘Rage of Angels’. To me, that kind of feedback has more meaning than any sales figures.
I went into the world confident my tea training would open many doors. And I did particularly well with the Irish and fellow Nova Scotians over 60. But this only got me so far. It took a long time to cultivate the tricks of easy social interaction.
I think the Japanese love young, tannic red wines much more than most Americans do. Perhaps it is because Asians have a great fondness for tea, and tea is a very tannic beverage. Therefore a young, tannic red wine is something familiar to an Asian palate.
I can’t live without my cup of tea. When I was a judge on ‘America’s Next Top Model,’ they had to put me in a hotel where I had my own kitchen, because they can’t make tea in America. I was happy then because I could make my own.
Much of what happens in Love Always is really from overheard conversations in the Russian Tea Room. It’s an improvisation of the way certain Hollywood agents think and talk to each other.
The Tea Party is almost solely grassroots-based; business interests have almost no grassroots organization. The Republican Party has for too long been run on behalf of business interests who favor candidates the grassroots hate; the minute that those candidates begin to flag, only loyal Tea Partiers stand behind them.
The Tea Party isn’t out to be a third force in American politics. Instead, it has infiltrated the Republicans and remoulded them in its own image.
Every morning, we choose between milk or tea or coffee. Usually, I know what I like, but I don’t rule out changing my idea sometimes. The editing process is one of the most important parts in everyday life. The same is with my work: mistakes are part of the decision-making process.
Disrespect is tired. Shade is old. Sipping ‘tea’ isn’t cute. But loving, supporting, giving, being grateful and perpetuating light, is.
Architecture is basically a container of something. I hope they will enjoy not so much the teacup, but the tea.
I mean, people who say that the Tea Party isn’t a grassroots movement, I think, are incorrect. I think in some respects, it is a grassroots movement.
The Tea Party movement is a wide and diverse group. It will hurt the Republican Party if some elements of the Tea Party decide to become third party advocates because it will split the conservative vote.
Sometimes people credit me for the Tea Party. It’s actually the other way around.
Those who use tobacco, tea and coffee should lay these idols aside, and put their cost into the treasury of the Lord.
My two girlfriends from university, Sue Perkins and Sarah Phelps, are both in the business – and are both stupidly busy. We talk on the phone a lot and try to get out to dinner together, but our preferred venue is one of our kitchens with a lot of tea.
The Occupy movement needs an organizing principle, and – just as the Tea Party did – it needs some actual measures of success. Choose one candidate whose agenda is squarely within that of the movement and make his or her electoral success a focal point.
We’re movers, forward thinkers, people who get things done. But the Tea Party and Republicans like Bob Dold are holding us back.
Try as I might, I cannot fall asleep before 2am. I sometimes try, putting tea towels over the clocks and forcing myselt to go to bed at 12.30am. I never win.
Politics is not my cup of tea.
I record my radio show, and my staff makes me a nice lunch in the kitchen, usually fish – whatever’s freshest and line-caught – and a salad. I drink water and herbal tea, a blend of catnip, elderberry, and horehound.
I was always brought up to have a cup of tea at halfway up a rock face.
While the vandals are on the street corners, the Tea Party conservatives, they’re working state houses, the governorships, the mayorships, the Senate, the House.
The Tea Party emerged from a laudably grassroots base: libertarians, fervent Constitutionalists, and ordinary people alarmed at the suppression of liberties, whether by George W. Bush or Barack Obama.
At the decisive Boston town meeting of Nov. 29, 1773, while ships loaded with cargo from the East India Company idled in the harbor, Thomas Young was the first and only speaker to propose that the best way to protest the new Tea Act was to dump the tea into the water.
I was never good at that Disney/Nickelodeon kind of acting. It’s not really my cup of tea.
The Tea Party people are ideologues. They are right, and no one can change their minds. There is no reason for compromise.
In Mexico we have a trick – add a crystal of salt to the kettle and the tea tastes better, almost English. But after four pots, your kettle’s broken.
I love a good breakfast – grits and eggs, French toast, turkey bacon. My grandmother on my father’s side used to make tea cakes, and her breakfasts were unbelievable. There was fresh ham, and she would go out to the yard to get fresh eggs. She lived in rural Louisiana, and we’d spend summers with her.
The Tea Party is but one manifestation of a widening perception that the game is rigged in favor of the rich and powerful.
Anglo-Saxons have a view that history is ordered and chronological, and I think that fed into the development of the realist middle-class novel. You know, the ones you read on your sofa with a nice cup of tea.
There are those who love to get dirty and fix things. They drink coffee at dawn, beer after work. And those who stay clean, just appreciate things. At breakfast they have milk and juice at night. There are those who do both, they drink tea.
Obamacare notwithstanding, the current president’s progressive instincts have been neutered by the rise of the Tea Party and Luddite conservatism.
I love peppermint tea, as it’s much nicer than taking anything chemical for settling your stomach.
I have to wake up and drink chamomile tea to slow down.
Steph’s such a good dad for girls. He’s super attentive, and he’s, like, not too manly to get down on the floor and play with them and have a tea party.
There are few things I like more than to see old people twinkling. A shopping centre I frequent has Tea Dance Tuesdays and I regularly pop by to see the over- 60s twirling about to a live band.
They are at the end of the gallery; retired to their tea and scandal, according to their ancient custom.
I like the pause that tea allows.
I will buy Victorian tea dresses and the like, but I don’t really think about them as investment pieces – just beautiful and vintage things.
I serve black tea, which I call Froggy tea. And I have green teas and all sorts of nice teas. I’m serving tea all the time.
The Tea Party ain’t nothing but the Klan in street clothes. I liked ’em better when they were in the sheets, at least I could spot them.
People are unhappy with the direction of the country – we saw that with the rise of the Tea Party; we saw that when we had thousands of people at the statehouse in Concord, New Hampshire, protesting the government with more taxes and more spending.
If someone said, ‘Think of a happy place for you,’ I’d say a glacial plane near the South Pole, the wind howling, nobody in sight, a shack with a pot-belly stove and some tea.
