In an organization that is unwilling to change, find the opportunity to talk and interact with people – figure out why they don’t want to change. It could be habits. It could be people’s personal equities and reputations are defined by the role they’re in or the process they’ve mastered.
The proper study of Man is anything but Man; and the most improper job of any man, even saints (who at any rate were at least unwilling to take it on), is bossing other men. Not one in a million is fit for it, and least of all those who seek the opportunity.
I think that we’re so generous in some of our social problems that people are unwilling to get a job outside in the heat. Rather than get 15 dollars to go get roofing, they’d rather get 9 or 10 dollars in benefits.
