At art college, I started to do music and then painting and drawing – and that would have been my ideal life, to be an artist and be paid for it, to be able to create stuff. I realized it was difficult, but I don’t know if I had the application for it.
I have a dad-ager. My dad is really good at the business end of things. But it’s really a family affair. My mother handles all my social media stuff – Facebook, Twitter, e-mails, that kind of thing.
And I know how many DJ pools have grown and I know how DJing has grown in the overall, but that was the technical side of it to me. DJs were rolling around, looking for stuff to buy and looking to see what was in the store when they get there.
Housing Works is the coolest thrift store in the world, because not only are they the best thrift store – they’re not the most thrifty thrift store – but they have amazing stuff and all of their proceeds go directly to kids, mostly homeless kids, living with AIDS and HIV in New York, in the metropolitan area.
I never mind scrubbing floors, vacuuming or bending and carrying stuff. Each time I do it I think, this is instead of going to the gym.
Religion without humanity is very poor human stuff.
Most people have no concept of how an automatic transmission works, yet they know how to drive a car. You don’t have to study physics to understand the laws of motion to drive a car. You don’t have to understand any of this stuff to use Macintosh.
I love what I do, and I don’t think I’m the guy who can do, like, a movie a year and that’s it. I don’t know what I’d do! I’ve already put stuff independently on the Internet cause I’m bored! I just want to keep going!
I didn’t vote, exactly. This is the first time I’ve been politically inclined and active, and I think Donald Trump is a tremendous president. And I wanted to be educated. I wanted to do a deep dive before I started going out there and saying stuff as opposed to other people who mindlessly vote.
Basically, I’m a musical vocalist, but I do voiceover stuff as a sideline, like plumbing or something.
I grew up a Catholic and I don’t want to talk badly about the Catholic Church but there’s a lot of routine stuff going on. You say the same prayers, you sit, you kneel, whatever.
My on-set, keep-warm jacket is a Patagonia, and they make sure the people who make their clothes are paid fairly, along with a load of other great stuff and initiatives. They’re a business, but they put their money where their mouth is in terms of caring and responsibility.
Usually when I’m out doing stuff, I’m just out in the wild, doing the wild thing. I don’t really get a chance to just chill out until I come here, in my creative space.
The best people renounce all for one goal, the eternal fame of mortals; but most people stuff themselves like cattle.
I was lucky enough to be a child during the renaissance of Australian children’s literature, when people like Ivan Southall, Colin Thiele, Lilith Norman and Wrightson were pumping out hugely inspiring stuff.
I was a good student and stuff like that.
There was times when I was bullied about dancing and stuff. But you couldn’t hit me hard enough to stop me from doing it.
I definitely like sorting stuff out, and I have the enthusiasm to try and help.
When you make stuff from the ‘you’ point of view, you really can’t go wrong.
We have eyes, and we’re looking at stuff all the time, all day long. And I just think that whatever our eyes touch should be beautiful, tasteful, appealing, and important.
‘The Fight Club’ DVD is great. I like anything that has really good extras because as an actor, it’s really great to see the behind-the-scenes stuff and see how different actors approach their particular project.
I decided at 15 that I didn’t want to be one of those artists that gets up and sings love songs they don’t mean. I decided that I was going to be me to the fullest extent, that my songs were going to reflect relationships I’ve had, things I’ve been through, and even the stuff I’m embarrassed about.
Oh my God, if you’re talking terrible theme songs, you have to mention Matt Hardy. I can’t understand what they’re even saying. There’s a point in Matt Hardy’s song where it sounds like they say ‘I want to meet the cheese.’ I’m always like, ‘Meet the cheese?’ Just goofy stuff.
My downtime tends to resemble my uptime. Weekends are workdays, but toned down. Over the whole weekend, I may have five meetings, as opposed to six on a weekday. I used to play piano for 30 minutes at night, but I had to pull that out of my schedule. I don’t have time for nonwork stuff.
My poor children have been the subject of all of my experiments. We’re still doing what I call ‘Amish summers’ where I turn off all electronics and pack away all their computers and stuff and watch them scream for a while until they settle down into, like, an electronic-free summer.
The thing about stand-up was, I was doing all this sketch and YouTube stuff where I was not being censored and I got to do my own thing, and it was really cool.
With the creative stuff, I have highs of being very productive and lows of being not productive. I have that in my moods as well.
Drama school can’t make you a brilliant actor, but you can do stuff for three years – you’re not going to be fired. You should just go for it all, even the stuff you think is codswallop.
You’ve got to be picky in this business – if you’re not, then I don’t think you have the option of longevity. You’ve got to be choosy and try and do something that’s outside of the box and dangerous. I love doing stuff that excites me, gives me that adrenalin rush.
When I moved to New York, I didn’t know how much improv and comedy would play into my life. I thought I was going to do theater and Broadway and stuff.
David Stern should get with the mothers of the NBA and let the moms decide what the dress code should be. I asked my mother if I could wear a chain, and she told me yeah. So I do stuff that my parents allow me to do.
I don’t really buy designer stuff. I have a few nice things, but I don’t really have the occasion to wear couture too often.
I did two commercials, one for Porsche, but I was definitely not the type of child one would cast in a commercial or any TV that you’d typically go out for as a young kid. I wasn’t the type of kid who would be in stuff that kids watch. I wasn’t cutesy.
I’m just a kid – I’ve got a lot of stuff to do yet.
I’d seen all of John Hughes’s movies. All the Spielberg stuff. A bunch of ’80s horror, like ‘Evil Dead.’
The pretty girls get all the good stuff. Oh, God. So not true. I unlearned this after years of coaching beautiful clients. Yes, these lovelies get preferential treatment in most life scenarios, but there’s a catch: While everyone’s looking at them, virtually no one sees them.
My mother told me, ‘Son, nobody else but God knows.’ And that’s what I’m about – reaching out to the people, crying with them, giving them hope. Visiting the hospital, visiting the kids with cancer, visiting the adults, and stuff like that. That’s what I do.
We’re all basically made of the same stuff: generosity and selfishness, goodness and greed.
I mainly listen to the music that’s playing during movies. It can be the theme to ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ ‘The Equalizer,’ stuff like that. I like the blend of orchestra with modern instrumentation. It’s something that I’ve wanted to do.
If we don’t hope, if we don’t stay positive – at least about love, or finding love – then the rest of life becomes really just painful to think about, because for the most part, you know, day-to-day stuff is monotonous.
An Academy Award nomination is stuff dreams are made of.
I want a Mini-Cooper because it’s fuel efficient, emissions efficient and all that stuff. It’s small and better for the environment. I think that will be my next car.
When I tour, I stuff fridges full of organic food and stick to that.
I think country music is popular – has been popular and will always be popular because I think a lot of real people singing about a lot of real stuff about real people. And it’s simple enough for people to understand it. And we kind of roll with the punches.
I used to take vitamins, but I think diet is the most important thing. If you have a good diet, there’s no need for that stuff.
I didn’t go to business school, didn’t care about financial stuff and the stock market.
I usually get my stuff from people who promised somebody else that they would keep it a secret.
I was a little one-trick pony. I do what I’ve always done. That’s really where my best stuff comes from. I don’t know how it happens. It just happens.
I guess by taking lessons early on, and really trying to play all the rudimentary stuff, and try to have it sound as good as my teacher. It took a lot of practice, which I enjoyed, and still do.
Bullying has existed forever. Everyone has dealt with it, and teenagers, regardless of where they are, are dealing with the same stuff growing up.
With the computer and stuff, the difference between a rich guy and a poor guy, to me, is nothing. Because I don’t like big houses, I don’t drive a car, so you know, I just live in a small apartment and I have my computer, which is really cool.
I like to connect with fans, usually positive stuff. If there is negative stuff, you just look past it and talk to the people that appreciate you.
