When I was younger, I would go to auditions to have the opportunity to audition, which would mean another chance to get up there and try out my stuff, or try out what I learned and see how it worked with an audience, because where are you gonna get an audience?
Pro wrestling fans love surprises, so let’s surprise them, and not just give them the old stuff.
It’s a diabolical business. I can’t imagine how hellish it must be to be hounded like Amy Winehouse and people like that. I have a little peripheral place on the outskirts of celebrity, when I go to premieres and that sort of stuff, which is as close as I want to get.
The bass is just the crayon that I picked out of the box. I’d probably be writing similar stuff if I played guitar or trumpet. The pictures I want to draw I do with this crayon I chose, which is the bass.
I enjoyed dancing with the Hardy Boyz back in the day. We did a lot of stuff at the house shows, dancing with Eddy Guerrero, and I think I had Mark Henry dancing as well. Kurt Angle danced. There were a lot of people who enjoyed that part of the magic of Rikishi and Too Cool.
I come from a place where everything about me, even my body language, is saying: I mean you no harm. I smile, I laugh. Basic stuff for most people.
That first year I was in Ring of Honor, maybe it wasn’t even a year, I was wearing the trucker hat thing and wearing John Deere stuff because I felt like part of what made me different from a lot of guys was that I was kind of a good ol’ boy and a southern type of guy.
You stuff somebody into the American dream, and it becomes a prison.
I’ve always kind of had an interest in the drums but nothing else. The drums are the only thing I feel I would be good at, because I’m a very physical person. I’ve always played sports and stuff. Drums would give me something to do.
For us, a lot of the cartoon and crazy stuff on ‘F Is for Family’ is tertiary characters; it happens on the television in the show. We try to keep whatever problem the Murphy family is dealing with rooted as much as we can in reality.
I really believe in positive energy and positive thinking and dreams and all that type of stuff.
Memorizing lines isn’t really hard. Only with really hard words and stuff.
I even played bass for a while. Besides playing electric guitar, I’d also get asked to play some acoustic stuff. But, since I didn’t have an acoustic guitar at the time, I used to borrow one from a friend so I could play folk joints.
I think a lot of stuff like people’s emails getting hacked or that an email you sent is stored on a hard drive somewhere, that kind of stuff worries me a little bit. It’s a weird thought that someone else could get into my information that easily. That stuff’s pretty scary.
I’m definitely not eager to grow up, but I do like some adult stuff.
When I say ‘homeschooled,’ I was homeschooled for, like, two years, and then we just stopped. It was me and my parents, and they’d give me homework and stuff like that, but then one day, they just stopped.
Life got very good – we went from living in a one-bedroom apartment to a five-bedroom mansion by the time I was in high school. I had everything I wanted growing up, though all I wanted was music stuff – drums, a PC, turntables.
You know the Germans always make good stuff.
As for my stuff, I’m just doing guest verses for other people’s records. I try to stay recording, because if I don’t, I get rusty.
If you have time to knit, if you’ve taken up knitting, it means you’re not worried about the essential stuff.
Where is instruction in relationships, in the management of career, in the raising of children, in the pursuit of friendship, in the wise approach to anxiety and death? All this sort of stuff I craved to learn about when I was a student and down to this day.
The things that make me laugh are considered smart or whatever, I guess. But stuff that’s self-consciously intelligent or self-consciously hip or cool, that doesn’t do it for me either. You just try to be funny.
I do comedy at a lot of colleges, and at the end of those shows, I take time to be a little more real with audiences. I try to inspire them to follow their dreams. When I was that age, it was incredible to hear stuff like that.
When I go to see people, I always kind of hope they are going to play some kind of songs I know. So you’ve got to know your audience. It’s kind of something that is a blessing and a curse in a way. You’re obligated to play some of that stuff that people know, but I don’t think that’s all you have to do.
Everybody goes through challenges. There’s stuff that happens personally that’s challenging, stuff in work that’s difficult, disappointments that happen.
When I’m lifting heavy, doing squats, and doing upper-body workouts, it’s mostly about core and stability. But I’ll still do deadlifts. I also do tire workouts with these big 600-pound tires, flipping them and stuff like that.
I’m having this disbelief and dissatisfaction with an establishment that feels like it’s moving backward, and I think there’s a similar feeling with everyone of my age and in the world of music and artistic stuff. Art is an important way those feelings get expressed and help people process their feelings and opinions.
You have to know that as long as you love who you are – your morals, your values, that type of stuff – you’re OK.
I don’t bat an eye at stuff like that. I’ve had my share of wins. If I worried about the games I should have won, it would probably drive me crazy. It was a fun game to pitch in.
I don’t jog anymore ‘cuz my knees hurt and stuff like that. I walk a lot and I am really slowing down walking.
Historically, the stuff of the universe goes on becoming concentrated into ever more organized forms of matter.
I wrote a lot of stuff quickly: pages and pages of notes that seemed pretty incoherent at first. Most of it was taken from the radio because -suddenly being a parent- I’d be confronted by the radio giving a news report every hour of the day.
To me, the funniest American of the Twentieth Century is Richard Nixon because he had the most to hide, and he was so bad at hiding it. To me, that’s what’s really funny – people who think they’re doing a great job of hiding stuff, and it just keeps leaking out.
Information’s pretty thin stuff unless mixed with experience.
The one thing the blues don’t get is the backing and pushing of TV and radio like a lot of this garbage you hears. They choke stuff down people’s throat so they got no choice but to listen to it.
When I’m back home, all I wear is African fabric. All I really rock is the traditional stuff.
We want to do a lot of stuff; we’re not in great shape. We didn’t get a good night’s sleep. We’re a little depressed. Coffee solves all these problems in one delightful little cup.
I went to a Steiner School, which is very small and nurturing and creative, so I felt like I was in an environment where I could mature. There was less of the clique-y stuff, which can really make high school a living hell for a lot of people, going on, so I was very similar then to who I am now. I’m still a dork.
A good director is like a good coach. You want to play for him. You want to really show him your good stuff. You don’t want to let that person down. Ridley Scott is one of those guys.
I’m a technician. I don’t go for the get-into-the-role stuff. I read the lines and play the scenes.
History not used is nothing, for all intellectual life is action, like practical life, and if you don’t use the stuff well, it might as well be dead.
I’ve seen people go through divorces and stuff, crossroads that don’t end well. Often.
The reason we should do a carbon tax is because it’s the right thing to do. It’s economics 101, elementary stuff.
I should think wrestling is the most positive thing in the world. The fact is, behind the scenes, there’s stuff that goes on that’s bush-league. It’s laughable.
A well-designed home has to be very comfortable. I can’t stand the aesthetes, the minimal thing. I can’t live that way. My home has to be filled with stuff – mostly paintings, sculpture, my fish lamps, cardboard furniture, lots of books.
The romance stuff is easy. A sex scene… that’s hard, because you don’t know what to do. Those scenes are awkward.
What I love about ‘Toast’ is that there’s always new stuff you can do with him.
Depression is real, and that really hit me hard. I was going through a phase where I wasn’t talking to no one. Only my son. Me and my son would do stuff, but I was talking to no one.
For men, privacy means not being told stuff that would hurt. For women, secrecy is having stuff go on behind your back.
Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing something else.
I’m not a detail guy. I depend on accountants and administrators to do my detail stuff for me, but I do know the overall picture and I know that if you put business people together in a room, not just politicians, they could shrink the deficit tremendously by good business tactics.
I’ve never felt particularly ambitious or driven, that’s for sure, although I like to create stuff, whether it’s a little doodle, a drawing, a small painting or a movie or a piece of music, so I suppose I’m driven by that. Everything I’ve done has felt very natural, and it’s happened because it’s happened.
