Nike is Nike. Adidas is Adidas. I’ve played in their circuits and stuff like that, but now it’s a business. You don’t want just product. You’re not a kid anymore. You’re really trying to get bank. That’s about it.
It was a lot of fun doing the Nike commercials, too.
When I’m living in L.A., I’m mainly a jeans, vintage T-shirt and Nike high-tops guy.
In track and field, Nike is all-powerful. They control the top coaches, athletes, races, even the governing body.
I can’t mix different sports brands together. I would never go to the gym wearing a Nike sweatshirt and Adidas shoes.
To be able to represent Nike as a brand is one thing, but to also represent the great players that came before me means a lot.

When I first left Nike to go work with LeBron and manage him, I was really bullish about managing other athletes. I really wanted to get more athletes besides LeBron and build this big management practice. And in hindsight that was a mistake.

I had a Dan Fouts Nike poster with ‘The Bomb Squad’ on my wall as a kid. I was also a huge Larry Bird fan. One of my proudest art achievements is a papier-mache eagle decked out head-to-toe in Celtics gear.
